Gingrich: The GOP in its current state is incapable of beating Hillary
“I think this is much more than Mitt Romney. We didn’t blow it because of Mitt Romney, we blew it because of a party which has refused to engage the reality of American life and refused to think through what the average American needs for a better future.”

Blowback

The GOP, in its current state, couldn’t beat a Brownie troop in a game of tug-of-war.
RoadRunner on December 10, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Well let’s just skip the 2016 race altogether
Sheesh!
Im a hoping that after 8 years of dear leader there is NO WAY we vote for another dem
But im not holding my breath these idiots voted for Obama again

Romney could have beaten Hillary I think.
DeathtotheSwiss on December 10, 2012 at 8:29 AM
well if the GOP nominates another uninspiring moderate/liberal republican then yeah I can see them not beating Hillary.
bannor on December 10, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Stop the hand-wringing, Newt! We lost an election. Its been known to happen to political parties in free societies for quite a while now. Did the Democrats in 2004 look like they were capable of beating the prospective Republican nominee in 2008?
Our side needs to get a grip and quit the whiny surrender rhetoric. LIB? You first!
Valkyriepundit on December 10, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Huh. From now until the next election, it looks like every analyst with advice about GOP presidential prospects will specifically go out of their way to avoid the word “conservative.”
Dongemaharu on December 10, 2012 at 8:35 AM
And the answer is the forward thinking of Newt Gingrich… eyes roll. Please go away and take trophy wife with you.
Illinidiva on December 10, 2012 at 8:37 AM
Regardless, he’s right about one thing. The Republican party has to change its strategy. They can’t expect Hispanics, Blacks, Asians and Young white voters to come to them. Hell, they’ve been indoctrinated for all of elementary school, middle school and part of high-school in place of receiving a quality education.
We have to engage THAT reality and start sending conservatives to the school systems to break things up, start reaching out to communities that disagree with our stances by default. Our arguments for improving America’s economy should be winning every corner of the country, but we can’t win arguments we aren’t having with people we aren’t talking to.
DeathtotheSwiss on December 10, 2012 at 8:39 AM
Huh? How did the party refuse to engage in what the average American needs? Romney talked about jobs, saving entitlement programs, balancing the federal budget, and increasing domestic energy production. Wouldn’t all of that be exactly what this ailing economy needs and thus better the lives of all Americans?
I think the more accurate analysis is that the American electorate in its current state is incapable of not electing another Democrat with no real qualifications for the Presidency as long as said candidate spends the entire campaign demonizing the producers and promising free goodies.
Doughboy on December 10, 2012 at 8:41 AM
The Left, Democrats, have won over the very minds of many today by volume of propaganda and other indoctrination through public education. Kids grow up loathing Capitalists and high achievers because they’re told those gains and abilities are “bad” — all except in some Asian groups who believe those things are “good” if not worth everything possible (yet they still vote for Democrats out of some sort of pro-Marxist guilt or whatever it is, something cultural that defies understanding, same as with Blacks).
If the GOP is to make “gains,” we have to do so in the public forum, among the public, starting with public education. Because the Left-union-think has overtaken and completely monopolizes the concept of values and defines them through the public education system in this nation.
It is outrageous that the highest contributor to the DNC in the last two elections was the faculty at the Univ. of California system of campuses. They’re indoctrinating their students with the same crud as they’re funding and which is funding them..
Lourdes on December 10, 2012 at 8:46 AM
I completely disagree with that.
Gingrich is engaging in his “blame the Republicans” psychology in an effort to shame more of us into supporting ever-Liberal policies.
Romney wasn’t the problem and few to no one among the GOP voters “refused to engage the reality of Amerian life” and “think through the average American needs…”
Gingrich sounds an awfully lot like he’s beating someone over the knuckles with a ruler while demanding we never, ever again ask for more. “Please sir, can I have some more?” Bam, down comes the ruler.

Democrats control the media, culture, PC buzz words and catch phrases and unions. They also have access to all sorts of toys and rewards for voting the way Democrats want.
Not to mention being able to flood districts with illegal votes that exceed those districts voting population.
Unless something catastrophic happens to suddenly turn voters around in ALL demographics. The Democrats will continue to out man, out gun, out manipulate and out General the GOP far beyond the foreseeable future.
Jack Deth on December 10, 2012 at 8:51 AM
There will never be another Republican President.
corujodp on December 10, 2012 at 8:51 AM
I think so as well. sHillary won’t get the same turnout that Obama got.
HotAirian on December 10, 2012 at 8:52 AM
Newt is so helpful. First he poisoned Romney’s chances and now he’s going to poison any future Republicans chances. Go away.
ctmom on December 10, 2012 at 8:53 AM
That all sounds good, but the damage has already been done. And I don’t just mean the indoctrination. I’m talking about the course of unsustainable spending we’ve been set on and that can’t be reversed thanks to the outcome of the 2012 election. At this point the only thing I believe we can do is sit back, wait for the whole thing to collapse, and then start to educate these ignoramuses on the concept of basic arithmetic.
Doughboy on December 10, 2012 at 8:53 AM
The problem for everyone who isn’t among the Democrats are:
Left controls and uses as propaganda vehicles:
1. Unions
2. Media
3. Public education and now, also,
4. Healthcare.
It’s a growing communist party, the DNC is, and until or unless those areas of public involvement are altered dramatically to include all views and all candidates without the Left indocrinational use of them, then, well, the Left will continue to monopolize the information that is funneled through each and all of them.
Lourdes on December 10, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Oh, dry up, Newt.
Pork-Chop on December 10, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Newt is absolutely correct in this. And, as long ans the Northeastern elitist control the RNC, it won’t change. They are busy convincing themselves that they weren’t Democrat Light ENOUGH to win, which is exactly the WRONG problem.

The coming recession on Obama’s watch will be good ammunition to defeat Hildog.
ramesees on December 10, 2012 at 8:58 AM
I understand where you’re coming from but I doubt most people are or are able to “sit back and wait” for some “collapse.”
Maybe it’s smarter to accept the reaality today that “it” isn’t GOING TO “COLLAPSE” but instead grow more detestable for everyone who isn’t far Left. There’s no where or means to “sit back,” we are going to be increasingly deteriorated by Left intrusions and reshaping of what this nation used to be.
What it isn’t (already, today) is the nation most of us over forty grew up recognizing the country to be and why and how. It’s become some other ‘place’. And it’s going to be more radically that other place, is what I think, unless there’s some huuuge, radical intrustion on the consciousness of the many.
I’m not against immigration (not at ALL) but I do blame unbridled immigration for fascilitating most of what’s damaged this nation after the Sixties. Too many people from too many socialist, communist and/or dictator countries have been allowed in and they’ve gone about recreating here the countries they left.

Quite right. Plus why the hell would we listen to someone who had the good sense to sit on Pelosi’s lap?
trl on December 10, 2012 at 9:01 AM
I don’t think so either, but then again I didn’t think President Obama would get this level of turnout. The only way we can assure Democrat defeat is by turning Obama into the poison pill that Bush became. We need to be more critical, more persuasive and educate more people about things like his incompetent economic policies.
The Dems did it with the war, every single day they did it. We have to do it with the same focus and energy if we’re going to achieve a 2016 landslide like 2012 should have been.
It seems like the Republicans are hoping to build an Obama of their own in Rubio someone I’m only mildly interested in. He certainly has a nice backstory, but I haven’t been exposed to any real substance as far as he’s concerned. I think the Republicans should steer clear from this sort of strategy, because as we have seen with GQ a Rubio candidacy won’t have the same kind of Media friendly atmosphere for someone like Rubio to build up his national popularity. I also think that the usual cat-calls of “race traitor” from the left will be somewhat effective with Hispanic Democrats. Unless someone finds overwhelming evidence that Rubio is a) able to grab a majority of latino voters with moderate levels of enthusiasm (which would certainly be neutralized if the Democrats ran a Latino candidate in 2016 *hint*) and b) is some sort of economic whiz kid like Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney then I would hold back my support for the guy who couldn’t rally the troops in Florida enough to keep Alan West in office.
Maybe I’m reading this wrong though.
DeathtotheSwiss on December 10, 2012 at 9:07 AM
How is it not going to collapse? We’re already 16 1/2 trillion in the hole, we’re adding over a trillion in new debt every year, we have upwards of 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, and this is all before the behemoth that is Obamacare is fully implemented. We’re f’ed, plain and simple.
I don’t know when it will all come crashing down or what will trigger it(Lehman Bros. in 2008 caught most of us off-guard), but an economic collapse seems inevitable at this point. To borrow Newt’s vernacular, we’re a fundamentally unserious nation. It’s reflected in our politicians, our media, our culture, and ourselves. So how can we ever hope to avoid this calamity that’s fast approaching if most Americans don’t even seem to be aware of it?
Doughboy on December 10, 2012 at 9:15 AM
First we nominate the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama.
Now we’re taking advice on winning from the guy who lost to the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama?
Newt, first off, you lost the election. So let’s not hear speeches about how to win. You obviously don’t know the answer to that question.
Second, no, we lost because of Romney. The Republican Party is trying very hard to paint this failure as related to anything but the candidate we nominated, so they can continue to nominate a moderate next time. But we lost because we nominated a moderate, pure and simple. If Romney had energized and turned out more of the base, he would have won handily. Independents were not the issue.
If the GOP wants to remain relevant, they have to come to the realization that their base does not simply march in lock step with anyone who has an “R” after their name and will not automatically turn out for them.

It’s game over.

1. The Democrat bench is very short on minority candidates. Julian Castro (the likeliest Next 0bama) comes from very Republican Texas. There are no national-level Democrat elected officials from Texas above the level of Congressman, and precious few Democrats in the Lege. Any mistresses, corrupt dealmakers, and the like who drop a dime on Castro prior to 2015 will end up much better off than the same blabbing on 0bama prior to 2007.
2. The Mexican Migration seems to have ended in 2007. The death of Castro and Chavez will very likely cause terrorists and looter political parties to dry up and blow away across Latin America, opening the area to commerce that could make the Asian Tiger look like a cub. This could suck the remaining illegals in the US back south for better job opportunities where the cost of living is lower. The African-American population is stable, and probably won’t turn out in 0bama numbers for a candidate who is not black.
3. It is extraordinarily rare for a party to win three elections in a row. 0bama is, frankly, nowhere near as popular as Reagan. And it is hard to see anyone with lighter skin than his bringing out the minorities like 0bama did.
4. Hillary will find leaving State to be a big mistake. Liberals are dogmatic on foreign policy, and their dogma has little basis in reality. This means there will be disaster. The next SoS will very likely try to blame the next thign going “boom” on some failure of Hillary’s, not his/her own.

Sekhmet. The three elections in a row thing is the basis for my optimism on 2016. Also, even without a disaster, Hillary leaving State is probably a bad move. She is going to get less coverage just because she isn’t in the public eye anymore.

Washington Nearsider on December 10, 2012 at 10:15 AM
This is true.
Yeah, it’s like Obama meeting with Psy or whatever his name is. Here’s this clown who rants about killing American soldiers and their families... and Obama invites him to a party. Now… we all just found out about the anti-American rants a few days ago. Are you telling me that the Secret Service just found out about that too a few days ago? Not likely. And yet there is is at a WH party… and Obama shakes his hand. Obama shakes the hand of a man who rants about killing American soldiers and their families. And this is the President Romney calls “a nice guy.”" This is the President Boehnr wants to reach across the aisle and work with.
The Democrats literally just give Republicans so much… lay down for them.. they make it easy for them and still… nothing.
Obama can go clear back to Bain Capital and falsely accuse Romney of killing some guy’s wife… but would the GOP ever once think of going back and rightly exposing the truth of Obama’s Marxist past? No.. that’s off limits. Obama can begin his political campaign out of the living room of an unrepentant domestic terrorist and yet….. somehow the GOP thinks that’s irrelevant. Actually.. offensive to bring it up.
This is why we lose. This is why the American people are ignorant. They see and hear one side.
If lies can stir people up… how much more the truth? But if the GOP is unwilling to use it…?
JellyToast on December 10, 2012 at 10:22 AM
I tend to agree with this … the coming unconditional surrender of the GOP to the Obama agenda should be enough to discredit it totally – and for generations.
It’s time to get off this horse guys – and move on to one that knows how to RUN.

If the GOP can stay away from Next In Line, they have a chance. Romney should be an example of what happens when you start on your next candidate practically as your current candidate wins the primaries. Romney was in no position to take advantage of 0bamacare, he saw the Tea Party and Sarah Palin as obstacles instead of allies, and he was forced to alienate portions of the Party just to get the nomination. Stuff happened between 2008 and 2012, and Romney was 2008′s news in 2012. Rubio, Jeb, or even Palin could meet the same fate if commitment to the candidate overcomes the ability to adapt and win.

Pray tell: Exactly what did Newt do that ruined Mitt’s chances of winning?

By the way: It is not true that only candidates who won their last election know how to win elections. Otherwise Mittster wouldn’t have paid his consultants quite so much money, seeing as how they never ran for anything.

Hillary will not be the democratic candidate. I don’t believe we will see another white presidential nominee from the democratic party in our lifetimes. That expectation is now set in stone, and much of the critical democratic base would see a white candidate as regressive.
