Why did the nurse at Kate Middleton’s hospital kill herself?
With her gracious manner, middle-class origins and girl-next-door beauty, Catherine has captured the British public’s imagination in a way that even her elegant, much-loved, would-have-been mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana, didn’t quite manage. And that’s because, unlike Lady Di, Kate Middleton is one of us.
So when the fairy tale princess goes into the hospital with acute morning sickness, we’re all on the edge of our seats, because there’s so very much riding on her being okay, not to mention the third-in-line-to-the-throne inside her womb.
Which is a heckuva lot to carry on your shoulders if you’re an immigrant nurse who happens to make the wrong decision on a phone call when you’re tired and trying too hard and haven’t quite mastered the language of the country you live in.

Ok, I’m a socialist with no sense of humor, whatever makes you happy. I have to leave now–we are taking our dogs out. They like to take their morning krugman after they eat. Have a good day.

It’s cute to see ladies when they are bonding over their lady parts, which, in this case, are your lady feelings!
Thanks, you too!

Yes, because Western civilization is all about sophomoric practical jokes.
Gelsomina on December 9, 2012 at 12:03 PM
I said you were a socialist with no sense of humor? Really, I did?
How is such an hyperbolic inference not hysterical – do you still not understand why I said you were being overly emotional? Well, anyway, you have a good day, too!

Actually, it is, in a sense: Western civ is based upon the idea that blaming others for your own bad decisions is wrong and unnacceptable; it seems that those who focus on the prank call rather than on the self-centered person’s suicide aren’t getting what freedom and personal responsibility are supposed to mean from a Western perspective…maybe you could ask Hillary and 0dumba what place they believe “slander against the Prophet” has in “civil” society if you aren’t sure of my point.

The gag was funny. The nurse was unstable. Death is imminent for all. So what?
Capitalist Hog on December 9, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Now, have a good day.

Western civilization is based on Christianity, but I guess the Golden Rule is too feminine for you.
Gelsomina on December 9, 2012 at 12:34 PM
lol you too!
juliesa and L.C., I want to make it clear that I: 1) did say I found it sad the nurse killed herself; 2) did not intend to personally attack either of you; 3) don’t want you to think that I am being dismissive of either of you just because I think your perspective on this topic if off.
My concern is that the prank callers are receiving misplaced anger and blame for her self-centered action – that a self-righteous and melodramatic socialist like libfreeordie tells me I should be ashamed of myself for not sharing his view about the prank callers’ culpability in her self-inflicted death should be a big warning sign to you!
Anti-Control on December 9, 2012 at 12:48 PM
lol this makes me laugh – how could it possibly be anyone else’s responsibility that the nurse chose to kill herself? How is having the opinion that the fault for her death lies solely with herself an un-Christian one?
No offense, but your thinking is weird.
Anti-Control on December 9, 2012 at 12:56 PM
Not if you laugh like a jack@$$. Now make me a sandwich.
22044 on December 9, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Make your own, you bossy, lazy bum. Make me one while you are it, too, why don’t you? It’s gotta be tasty though, otherwise, don’t bother!

I didn’t even mention the nurse. I only replied to your claim that Western civilization is based on juvenile pranks.
Different people react differently to humiliation. I really don’t want to condemn her, just because she wasn’t strong enough to endure public humiliation.
Gelsomina on December 9, 2012 at 2:11 PM
Ok, then I guess I misunderstood your point about the ‘femininity’ of the Golden Rule, and why you even brought it up?
You seem to misunderstand my “claim” that Western civ “is based on juvenile pranks”. My point was that Western civ is built upon personal, not collective, responsibility, and tolerance for the personal choices of others, of which the right to be as immaturely jocular as one pleases is an integral aspect – whiny socialists like libfreeordie, who advocate for restrictions on free speech while saying incredibly stupid crap like “the future doesn’t belong to those who slander the Prophet”, don’t properly understand nor accept this.
I “condemn”, to use your term, suicide as an immature, disrespectful self-centered action, and find the nurse’s behavior to be far more offensive and worthy of derision than what the shock jocks did while pursuing their innocent fun, which I therefore believe is best to mention only in passing (whether or not the prank callers broke any law is a different issue than what I am discussing here.)

There is a soft aspect to Western Civilization that says that we should try to be kind and just to each other. Don’t be cruel. This aspect of Western civilization is based on Christianity. That’s why I mentioned the Golden Rule.
You are glad to be alive, so don’t kill the unborn. You don’t want to be hurt, so don’t hurt others.
Maybe it’s not your intent, but you come across as someone who has no tolerance for weakness. Fact is, we all have our breaking points.
This is all strictly personal. It has nothing to do with politics.
Gelsomina on December 9, 2012 at 4:39 PM
Yes, “don’t be cruel” – has anyone here been arguing for cruelty? In what reality could that prank call be reasonably construed as “cruel”?
You are reacting hysterically to that weak person’s suicide, and there is something you and people like L.C. and juliesa need to have a remedial course about: just because you perceive that I have no tolerance for weakness does not mean that I do not have any, and that misperception is precisely why I brought the phrase “confirmation bias” into this thread in the first place.
What you misunderstand about me is that I don’t have any tolerance for excuses which are made for weakness, not for weakness itself – blaming the shock jocks at all for her stupid behavior is to downplay it, and that is not the kind of mentality which built Western civ.
If people with a collectivist mentality, who focus obsessively on emotions, had had their way throughout history, there never would have been an American separation from the British Empire!
Anti-Control on December 9, 2012 at 5:05 PM
Sorry, but you are the only one here who reacts hysterically. You are all over the ballpark. Western Civilization! America and the British Empire!
If I personally think that the prank was humiliating and cruel, that’s entirely my business. There is nothing collectivist about it.
Again, different people react differently to different things. That’s why I didn’t even mention the nurse. I hope I never find out what my breaking point is. That’s why I don’t sneer at her and her “excuses”.
Gelsomina on December 9, 2012 at 6:17 PM
Feminist emotions and wimpiness are not what built Western civ, no matter how much you may choose to ignore that truth!
Guessing that the Golden Rule is “too feminine” for me as you did was very bizarre, and should indicate to yourself something important about your own psychology. Seeing how you’ve intereacted with me, I am aware that it won’t, and that you will continue to live in your bubble while believing I’m the hysterical one, to which I will just look at you and grin, just like I do at L.C. and juliesa!
Girls like you are so cute when you think you are less driven by emotion than someone like me!
