Supreme Court fallout: Gay marriage pressure back on Obama
“There will be pressure for the Justice Department to weigh in on the Prop. 8 case,” said Richard Socarides, a longtime gay rights activist and White House adviser to President Bill Clinton.
Socarides said that when Obama “evolved” in the direction of support for gay marriage earlier this year, he and his aides seemed eager to let some time pass before confronting the question of whether it was a right every American should be guaranteed.
“I think this federalizes the issue much more quickly than the White House would have liked and may force them to take a position earlier than they would have liked,” Socarides said.
“It’s a fascinating question,” said another prominent gay rights activist, who asked not to be named. “Will they be at the table and which side of the table will they be at?”

President “Present” is not going to be at the table. But he thanks gays for their votes earlier this month and wishes them well.

Good. It’ll take some pressure off moral citizens if the buggery brigade is after

Poor Barack..he’s really having a tough go of things lately. I wonder if he’ll ever be able to win again.

Gay marriage isn’t about marriage; its about normalizing and mainstreaming homosexuality. Legalization of gay marriage will turn objectors into bigots overnight in the eyes of government.
The gay mafia will put countless churches and other religious orgs out of business in their crusade to force acceptance of homosexuality. Moral objectors will be bullied, harassed, tormented, and belittled.
Homosexuality will force its way into public education.
This is not now nor as it ever been about marriage. It is and always has been about forcing the moral equivalence of homosexuality on a resistant public.
Charlemagne on December 8, 2012 at 9:52 PM
The Left is always saying we can’t legislate morality but they won’t resist for a second legislating the prohibition of discrimination against homosexuals in circumstances where that discrimination is based on morals, like church weddings.
I wouldn’t discriminate against a homosexual in the workplace and even worked for a gay man. He was a great boss. But I would never support his getting married in my church.

Their objections will cease when the next round of welfare checks arrive and they can afford the next round of crack and malt liquor.

That has been the Demoncrat gameplan for decades and I don’t see it changing.
MelonCollie on December 8, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Exactly.
Shoving the adulation of physically unsafe, aberrant sexual conduct down the throats of elementary school children and persecuting those who have moral objections to the conduct are the two goals of the homosexual agenda.
To put homosexual relationships on par with marriage between a man and a woman is an absolute joke.

This is why libertarians need to oppose gay marriage, even if they have no problem with homosexuality, and frankly even if they think that the state should recognize gay marriage in an ideal world. In the real world, the left has every intention of using gay marriage as a club to silence dissent and to bring the coercive power of government down on those who refuse to be silent. And given the direction of our country, the left has every reason to think that they’ll be successful in those efforts.
To repeat: the movement for gay marriage has nothing to do with reducing the scope or intrusiveness of government; indeed, it has everything to do with increasing them.

Bingo! That is exactly why I am against offering protections based on sexuality. Do I care who you love or have sex with? Not a bit, and I am sure there are some committed loving couples who are gay. That does not mean that I believe every coupling should be state recognized. And yes, the left is using another useful idiot victim group as a way of putting another nail in traditional America, churches, freedom of speech, and parental rights.

I’ll believe Obama supports gay marriage when they start marrying gay couples at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

One come will be that they say that the financials benefits from the government for being married is unconstitutional. Deny it from both Heterosexual and Homosexual marriage. Get the government out of the marriage industry.
tjexcite on December 8, 2012 at 11:56 PM
+100. Some conservatives were soooo big on “government must be involved in marriage because marriage means children and children are teh fyootchur!”
Somehow it never crossed their minds that this #@$@% brilliant logic would someday be used against them…like NOW.
IMVHO we have to get the government out of marriage. Immediately if not sooner. Because if we don’t, the gayfia will just bang away in the ‘legal’ system (lol, there’s a mental image) and play “lawsuit roulette” until they win.

Charlemagne is right. If the government got out of the marriage business tomorrow (and it is to the detriment of society if government does not protect and incentivize marriage), the clamoring would not end.
I would add that it is also about punishing those who state that homosexual behavior is wrong.
Marriage provides a convenient cover-up. There is a huge propaganda war going on with this.

I think its very likely that the Justice department will engage in a defense of prop 8, but it will be an extremely weak defense.
