“People have different skill sets at different times”
When New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) offered praise to President Obama following Hurricane Sandy’s impact on the Garden State, it was a departure from the normally critical posture the governor had taken toward the president and it prompted widespread attention. Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart asked Christie on Thursday what the contrast told us about the political “game.”
“What it tells me is that people have different skill sets at different times,” Christie said.
The audience laughed.
Stewart responded: “I see. So, he wasn’t a leader until you needed leadership?”
“Maybe until until he was presented with a stark opportunity to lead,” replied Christie.

Strange. I’ve often thought that Jon Stewart isn’t funny until… oh, wait. Jon Stewart is never funny….

Jon Stewart has become too predictable. Predictable isn’t funny.

I of course concur on Stewart, but on this I can disagree: Although predictable in and of itslef is not funny, when employed aggressively it can invoke increased laughter through conditioning.
Captain Ed’s on another thread talking about how his grandfather entertained him with terrible puns. I, on the other hand, had an uncle who always told the same joke: “Did you hear the one about the man with no ears? He couldn’t hear!” Yeah, astoundingly lame. However, he’d smile big when he told it and guffawed at the punchline. And we kids would laugh — we laughed with him. It got to a point where, during a visit, his eyes would brighten while looking at us and he’d smile and say, “Did you hear the one…” and we’d be laughing already.
So, aggression and conditioning can make a predictable joke work. Stewart’s kinda lacking in the convincingly aggressive department.

Is Christie implying that Sandy was Obama’s first stark opportunity to lead? Has he been in a sugar-induced coma the last 4 years?!

Hate to say it, but Stewart nailed him on the leadership question. It makes no sense to be decrying Obama’s lack of leadership one day, then praising his leadership the next. And for what? Making phone calls and doing a photo op?

Christie is a lunatic.

Look at Obama – he decreased the jobs rate, all by his own hand, to the lowest in 4 years, just like that.
