At sunset one recent evening in the hotel’s hilltop bar, an American couple sampled the brew. They said it surpassed their expectations.

“I thought it would be repulsive,” said Ryan Nelson, 31, of Tampa, Florida. “But I loved it. It was something different. There’s definitely something wild about it that I can’t put a name on.”

His wife Asleigh, a biologist and coffee lover, called it a “fantastic product for an eco-conscious consumer,” since the coffee helps fund elephant conservation.

But how does it taste?

“Very interesting,” she said, choosing her words carefully. “Very novel.”

“I don’t think I could afford it every day on my zookeeper’s salary,” she said. “But I’m certainly enjoying it sitting here overlooking the elephants, on vacation.”

These people think Obama’s sh*t is Beluga caviar.

If you like coffee that is extra-smooth, just prepare it through a french press or individual drip at 180 degrees (not 190 to 200 which is often recommended); use about 50 percent extra grounds and don’t let the coffee sit in the water more than 10 seconds or so for the french press. This is a great way to have coffee, but even though it is strong due the extra grounds, it will be “too smooth” for some, as the experienced palate expects more bite/acidity/bitterness than this approach. I love it. Instead of $.40 for a high-quality, home-ground extra large cup of coffee; you’ll pay about $.60. Beats $10 a cup for elephant excrement processed beans.
