Obama wants to raise the debt ceiling “without drama”
President Barack Obama will renew his case for tax hikes on wealthy Americans to avert a year-end fiscal crunch and call for a smooth increase in the nation’s borrowing limit in a speech to a business group on Wednesday, a White House official said.
The president is embarked on an aggressive campaign to pressure congressional Republicans to compromise on steps to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. He will argue to corporate executives that it would hurt the nation’s economy to have another protracted political fight over raising the debt limit, the official said.
“The President will highlight why it would hurt our economy and our nation’s businesses if we do not find a solution to avoid another debt ceiling crisis, and will ask the business leaders for their help in supporting an approach that resolves the debt limit without drama or delay,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

I’ll bet he does. I want to cut up his credit card.

Just give means-tested Medicare without drama, and we’ll give you tax hikes sometime in 2013 – we promise.

Offer to raise it to $50 trillion or no deal.

Just leave it where it is with no drama.

If the GOP goes along with raising it, then demand it be raised to 20 trillion dollars for symbolic purposes.

Yeah, if the Republicans just give him everything he wants there won’t be any drama. It’s called compromise!

Slash the debt limit! By reducing the debt limit down to a sustainable, more responsible level we can achieve a truly “balanced approach”.
But we may have to compromise and meet Obama in the middle and thus may have to settle for leaving the debt ceiling unchanged.
FloatingRock on December 5, 2012 at 7:23 PM
Contrary to Obysmal, who claims to have never understood math beyond the seventh grade, raising the debt ceiling will have serious negative repercussions on our economy.
Live within your means, jerk.
onlineanalyst on December 5, 2012 at 7:28 PM
Leaving the debt ceiling unchanged, as apposed to reducing it, could still legitimately be called the “balanced approach”, because it would force the government to balance the budget.
FloatingRock on December 5, 2012 at 7:29 PM
Obama is looking for the debt ceiling to reach past the sky.

Hold him to the debt ceiling. Period.
I know, the idea that our wusses may ever stand up to this thug may be wishful, but this has to stopped and we have to start somewhere.

Fu*k Obama.

That’s not a bad idea. How long do you think it will take The Won to exceed it?

In principle I agree with you but I am in the mood for big displays so I’m going with Bishop on this one. Plus going over the fiscal cliff. If I have to put up with this man for four more years I’m going to see him finally do something. Watching him try to fix crap suits me fine.
Cindy Munford on December 5, 2012 at 8:35 PM
I hadn’t read Bishop’s comment before I posted. Like Bishop implies, this blister is so full of toxic puss that it’ll have to be brought to a head to drain it. I’ve thought this for some time. Only recently have I entertained the LiB school of thought, but I will need to think about it more, and weigh the pros and cons about giving this Obama free reigns to destroy us.
I agree with Bishop most of the time. That you side with him is persuasive.
petefrt on December 5, 2012 at 8:52 PM
Luckily we don’t have a say because I don’t know if we should trust me right now. I’m in the angry stage of my grief over the fact there are enough stupid people to give this jackazz four more years. And anger is feeling pretty darned good, it may last a while. He’s going to destroy us anyway and blame everyone but himself.
Cindy Munford on December 5, 2012 at 8:56 PM
There is no proof he ever cared about the nation’s economy or businesses before.
Why should businesses help Obama hang them? If he gets the debt limit raised there is no promise he will not ask for more, since he is already asking for more
Why should the WH need to float this burger via an ‘official’, who speaks on condition of ‘anonymity’? Nothing floats out of the WH without fingerprints. Probably just having some fun with the suckers

Well at least we’re going to find out what comes after trillion.

I’m in the same place, Cindy. Depressed over the loss of the country I grew up in, the county whose freedom I loved.
I even restrain from commenting oftentimes now, as I have so little constructive to say.

‘cuz cockroaches hate sunlight.
antipc on December 5, 2012 at 9:21 PM
I hear you! At first I wasn’t around because I had company but now I’m like you, I don’t feel constructive. How can you be constructive when you are for all intents and purposes, powerless? I truly believe that we need to go over the cliff. I never believe the media anymore, I doubt we would even notice the difference between now and financial disaster. Especially since I’ve considered us in financial disaster territory since TARP.
Cindy Munford on December 5, 2012 at 9:28 PM
A large part of our problem is that we have an Alinsky street fighter on our hands as Prez, and none of us on the free market side know how to deal effectively with it.
Much less confront it.
(Like you, Boehner.)
petefrt on December 5, 2012 at 9:33 PM
I think that is why I like Bishop’s idea. Coming up with a crazy number and watching how fast Obama blows by it would be a lesson few could ignore and we already can’t pay for what we have borrow. I’m trying to figure out who is stupid enough to lend to us?
Cindy Munford on December 5, 2012 at 9:36 PM
Lance the boil. That would be the Kamikaze option, more than the nuclear option. It’s a sacrifice of our own years to salvage the well-being of our children and grandchildren.
Surely the Chinese are asking themselves that now.
petefrt on December 5, 2012 at 9:51 PM
Hmmm, maybe the fact that I have no grandchildren makes it seem easier to go the “Kamikaze” option. The country we have known is going to be very different from what they will know and due to the lack of truth in our schools’ history curriculum, they won’t even miss it.
Cindy Munford on December 5, 2012 at 9:56 PM
I’m bummed out enough now. If I had grandchildren, I don’t want to think how bummed out I’d be. The future looks ugly.
