Harry Reid: We’re forging ahead with filibuster changes
Keeping with his post-election pledge to reform the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday proffered that changes to the rules of the upper chamber will be made, leaving it up to Republicans if they would like to participate.
“There are discussions going on now [over filibuster reform], but I want to tell everybody here. I’m happy I’ve had a number of Republicans come to me, a few Democrats,” Reid told reporters Tuesday at his weekly press availability. “We’re going to change the rules. We cannot continue in this way. I hope we can get something that the Republicans will work with us on.” …
Asked to confirm if his comments meant that the rules would change and Republicans can choose to be a part of that change if they want, the Nevada Democrat responded, “That’s right. Yup.”

Do you think he thinks they’ll take the House in 2014 or they just want free reign to appoint as many wild-eyed kooks as possible – or both?
The Count on December 5, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Spineless Boehner has said they will shut down the house if Reid does this. Think he will follow through?
karenhasfreedom on December 5, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Says the guy who squashes all Republican-originated bills from the house, including budgets.
And who raised holy hell when he was in the minority over a less expansive version of the same thing.
The only words that come to mind will eat this comment in the filter.

Stand the F by Harry. Your party won’t hold the Senate forever….

May he end up in a creche, in diapers/Depends, really soon, in the same pen with McCain, and most who are over 60 in the Senate.

Once again, thanks Nevada. Thanks a million, really! /
I can’t adequately express how much I despise this worm and his shameless hypocrisy. Not to mention the media morons who lambasted the Senate GOP when they considered the nuclear option several years ago. Fluke ‘em all.

Hey, Harry Reid: that’s great!
When the GOP eventually gets the majority back (and it will), you won’t be able to filibuster our repeal of Obamacare or the massive amounts of entitlement and tax code reforms we push through!
Go ahead, Dingy Harry…make our day!
DRayRaven on December 5, 2012 at 3:14 PM
BSC! McCain is one of them, of course:
That despicable neo-Trotskyite doesn’t like Rand’s filibusters slowing down the bifactional ruling party’s swift, steady march to totalitarianism.

Good. The modern filibuster needs to go. Has needed to for a long time. I agree with Reid. We argued that when Dems were filbustering judicial nominees. Now we’ve somehow changed our minds when we’re the minority.
If there’s going to be a filibuster at all, it needs to be a true filibuster where you have to hold the floor.

Please…Please…Please…every time Reid opens his mouth about a “filibuster”, please, I beg of the Republican party…please…
Shout back, the worst filibuster in history is Reid’s lack of passing or even presenting a budget for over 3 years…we won’t talk seriously about rule changes, until he takes his job seriously and puts together a budget during the worst financial times of our lives.
Please Republican’s…learn to fight, you are letting him dictate the news cycle…

There is more to the bill than just the physical presence…just saying “okay” without understanding the bill is exactly the kind of public he wants, you would make a terrific democrat.
right2bright on December 5, 2012 at 3:26 PM
Gee, how did he get re-elected anyway? He must have had some strong endorsements and campaign help. Whoever that was must have known John’s tendencies to help the opposition.

The day they think they will lose the edge, they will vote back the procedure…and add to it a 2/3 provision.

What morons
When they had 59-60 senators and control of the House, they didn’t dare
But now that we control the House and have a very legitimate chance to take back the Senate in 2014, NOW they pull this crap?
Morons– please dare to do this, as if we needed any more motivation to come out in droves in 2014 to vote to defang this idiot for good
Paybacks will be hell…
thurman on December 5, 2012 at 4:13 PM
Obviously you missed the fine print “only applies when Dem’s control the Senate”/
BullShooterAsInElk on December 5, 2012 at 5:32 PM
If 4 years of Obama and the dems wasn’t enough to do it in 2012, I seriously doubt this is what will finally push people over the edge. Frankly, I doubt Republicans will hold the senate again at any point over the next 20 years.
