They aren't lying low. They are following the orders of their leaders Reid blocks Senate vote on Obama's deficit-reduction plan

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday offered an amendment to force a vote on President Obama’s deficit-reduction plan, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was having none of it.

They are working with Reid to put all the blame on the GOP. The WH offer is a super size burger of the tax on the Mitches that Obama promised to his base. WH and Senate need the GOP to reject it, all on their ownsome. That is why these so called Centrist DEMs are holding back, to put the blame on the GOP, not because they have qualms

Over 100 Democrats in the House have signed a pledge to vote against ANY reductions in spending for entitlements. Why won’t Mark Warner sign this?

“Centrist Dems” = Democrats who know their next election is not guaranteed.

They’ll vote for whatever Obama wants if they think they have cover for it, but they’ll abandon him in a heartbeat if they think it might hurt their chances at being elected again.

I think the more accurate term here is, “vulnerable Dems.”
