Ashley Judd exploring Senate run against Mitch McConnell
The Hollywood movie star and eighth-generation Kentuckian is seriously exploring a 2014 run for the Senate to take on the powerful Republican leader, four people familiar with the matter tell POLITICO. In recent weeks, Judd has spoken with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) about the possibility of a run, has discussed a potential bid with a Democratic pollster and has begun to conduct opposition research on herself to see where she’s most vulnerable in the Bluegrass State, sources say. …
“She is doing all the things that a serious candidate exploring a race should do,” Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) told POLITICO after speaking with her. “I think there are a lot of people, and I was one of them, who wanted to let her know that her candidacy would be an exciting prospect for us. That’s what I wanted her to know. A lot of the labor unions, they were telling me that too.” …
That’s why some Democrats are calling on Judd to run — she could raise a ton of cash, energize the base and would have significant name recognition in the state. Yet other Democrats are nervous about her prospective candidacy: She’d be pegged as a liberal, out of touch with conservative Kentucky; she has no experience running for office; and she now lives outside her home state.

Not sure what the actual difference would be. McConnell is just another big government good as well.

Why not, our “government” is a joke anyway.

Isn’t having a brain a requirement to run for office?
darwin on December 4, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Sure, why not? Franken rode in to Minnesota after living away since the age of 2 and professed his deep and abiding love of the state, and of course convinced the leftist dolts living here that he would make a perfect senator.
Bishop on December 4, 2012 at 12:17 PM
I do not live in Kentucky. However, if I did, I would be tempted to support her, even at the risk of not being able to regain the Senate, just to ensure the GOP gets rid of McConnell. He needs to go as badly as Boehner.
The spotlight hasn’t fallen much on him because, being the minority leader in the Senate, he doesn’t wield as much power as Boehner does as Speaker. But should the Senate go back GOP, and McConnell become majority leader, he’ll handle things the same way Boehner has: purge the conservatives, stonewall real change, maintain the country club status quo. That won’t help at all.
Besides, Ashley Judd was in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and that’s gotta count for something.

Frankly, I think these vanity runs are disgusting from either party even on the rare occasion they win. These are usually supported in states by the minority party not because there is a hope of winning but because it will put a lot of cash in consultants pockets where usually there is little as the race is not competitive. Linda McMahon is a perfect example.

I heard her grandmum said that she will still vote for McConnell. Girlfriend’s a enviroNazi and total nut about animals. She’s called Sarah Palin a murderer numerous times and has praised the way Scandinavian countries address hunting, sealing, and whaling. Damn girl is a fool. I wrote an article on anti-Semitism in Norway a year ago. In one part, I described how shechita, Hebrew ritual slaughter, is banned, but Hallal, Muslim ritual slaughter is not. I also looked at clubbing and made a crack about Ms Judd.

At this moment, I am in the process of updating the article and will post it soon, if you’re interested in reading it all, but the picture above should tell you all that you need to know about Ms Judd.

Judd is far beyond being just a liberal – she is a dangerous ultra-radical – she would be a disaster for Kentucky.

She’s big on abortion and against hunting. Might not be the perfect candidate for Kentucky.

John the Libertarian on December 4, 2012 at 12:29 PM
She’s just a nut.
darwin on December 4, 2012 at 12:33 PM
I’d bet you she…
- Is anti 2nd Amendment
- Is anti hunting
- Is a vegetarian
- Is an atheist
- Has tons of pictures of her nekkid on the Internets
- Has received in-patient treatment for mental illness
- Is Pro big government
- Is entirely on board with the enviroterror movement
Somehow I doubt TN will suck that up.
She’d be perfect for somewhere like Kalilfornia or Cuba though.

I’d vote for her. I’d vote for anyone against Boehner or McConnell.

I’m Nightmaring of A Gaian Non-Christmas-Christmas with 42 Obama Festivus Poles, a 2nd Term Cabinet of Misfits and Jerry Springer Rejects, and a Fiscal Cliff on Elm Street With Freddy Krueger Sweeping in to Save the Country by Ripping the Budget to Shreds With His Awesomely Awesome Razor Gloves.
Sheila, Guam Hank, Cynthia, etc. are included.
If you have any suggestions, post them. See what you can do!

What exactly is she thinking running in Kentucky? They ain’t electing a Democrat in 2014. Even if she was mid-90′s Ashley Judd who was really hot and coming off of an actual decent film or two, she wouldn’t stand a chance.

Even more reason why she should stay in the private sector and continue such great work.

I wonder what her views are regarding smoking. Tobacco is still big business in KY.
Bitter Clinger on December 4, 2012 at 12:46 PM
And this right here is why Harry Reid is still in power, allowing Obama to have the upper hand.
We’re harder on our own guys than we are the Democrats.
Do I wish he was more conservative? Yes. Do I think he’s better than a Democrat? Yes. Just like Castle was better than a Democrat, Just like Lugar was better than a Democrat, just like Sue Lowden was better than a Democrat, Sarah Steelman was better than a Democrat, etc.
That we haven’t won the Senate in the last two elections is a joke. Imagine how different it would be if we were forcing Obama to veto budgets.
cpaulus on December 4, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Fate is so cruel. I’ve stated that if the GOP won’t let it burn then I can by voting Democrat. God heard and giggled like a little school girl, and now he’s going to make me vote for Ashley Judd.
DFCtomm on December 4, 2012 at 12:47 PM
She starred in Heat directed by Michael Mann who then made The Insider which while it was a terrific film, was not exactly a positive portrayal of Big Tobacco. So by the laws of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, she’s a lib by association.
Doughboy on December 4, 2012 at 12:50 PM
No the problem is we weren’t hard on our guys when times were easy but now we’re paying attention, and we don’t like what we see. We’re trying to clean house when we need every last vote. Shump is right, but our timing is horrible.
DFCtomm on December 4, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Plastic surgeons across America rejoice!!!
Seriously, though, I am from Kentucky and Ashley Judd has about as much chance of winning an election there as Christian Laettner. (If you have to ask, you don’t get Kentucky.)
rockmom on December 4, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Oh my gosh, she is a hard-core pro-abortion activist, well beyond liberal. Some might question why she has been so vocal about abortion rights over the years. Certainly she will be asked if she runs.

Drained Brain on December 4, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Why no mention of her psychological issues?
Moesart on December 4, 2012 at 1:06 PM
I know. I was being facetious with my Michael Mann reference. The biggest problem she’s had is not that she’s a big-time lib. It’s that she’s been a vocal one. Someone like Ben Asslick could conceivably run for office someday(although he’s a pretty solid writer-director and should keep that up) cuz he’s always been one of the few grounded libs in Hollywood who didn’t treat anyone right of Castro as if they were a racist, homophobic troglodyte. I can’t say the same for Ashley Judd.
And spare me the Al Franken example. Yes, he’s a nasty piece of work and an ultra-leftist. But he was also running for the Senate in Minnesota which elected Jesse “The Body” Ventura as governor and was the only state to go for Mondale in 1984. And even then, Franken needed major voter fraud in order to win by a razor-thin margin.
Doughboy on December 4, 2012 at 1:07 PM

I agree with this. Ben Affleck is a hard core lib but he’s not mean about like his friend Matt Damon or Ashley Judd. You can express your political opinions without being a complete jerk.
terryannonline on December 4, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Did you see “Bugs”? Great movie and she played her part so well because she really didn’t have to act. She just had to be herself.
Frank Enstine on December 4, 2012 at 1:24 PM
Also, Ashley Judd seems to be a real lefty (not a moderate liberal)….I don’t see how a Hollywood lefty will connect with even with Kentucky voters.
terryannonline on December 4, 2012 at 1:25 PM
I think this is a fair assessment.
Would I actually, seriously vote for Ashley Judd over Mitch McConnell? No, of course not. But I do seriously think McConnell needs to go and be replaced with a conservative, as does Boehner.
Shump on December 4, 2012 at 1:28 PM
I wasn’t joking earlier. I live in Kentucky and if she runs I may very well vote for her. If the GOP won’t let it burn, then I can, and I accomplish that by voting straight D.
This is what the American voter wants and they deserve to get it good and hard.
DFCtomm on December 4, 2012 at 1:41 PM
If she does run, the one question I want to hear someone in the press ask is this: “Ms. Judd, you have been very critical of Republicans. When you were a little girl, your family stood near the poverty level. By the time you became an adolescent, your family was rich. Since the people responsible for the wealth your mother and sister earned were mostly Republicans, and since the most condescending sneers directed at their form of music came from liberal Democrats, does your conscience ever trouble you that you have now aligned yourself with the left?”

As a Kentuckian, Judd would never make it out of the Dem primary. While she is popular as a UK bball fan (except in Louisville), she is unpopular politically. Obama lost by a huge margin in KY and people took notice of how she hawked for him.
Yeah, we need to find a replacement for McConnell, but the R’s don’t have much of a bench in KY, and we sure don’t need to replace him with a Dem.

She used to be the prettiest of the Judds. Her husband, Dario, is hot, but if she continues on her quest to become a younger version of Jocelyn Wildenstein, a lot of Indy groupies are going to get to find out what Scots wear under kilts…up close and very personal.

The CQ came first. Her CQ did lead her to believe that Dr Edward Scissorhands, MD, FACS, was a board-certified plastic surgeon. You would have thought that when he gave Craigslist as a reference she might have had a clue, but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. So, now, she’s always the bird at the track with the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge hat.
Maybe, she should move to the 20th district in New York and run for Congress. She could take Bella Abzug’s old seat. She had a thing for hats, too.
