Sen. Ayotte offers an influential new voice
This week, Ayotte was everywhere expressing concern at the possibility that Rice could be nominated to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state. Those concerns were not being taken lightly as Ayotte has emerged as a newly influential voice in a party that does not have many like hers and desperately needs them. …
At 44, Ayotte is a fresh face in a party that has lagged behind in advancing women into its most powerful positions and in making a convincing case to many female voters. Ayotte (pronounced AY-aht) infuses new blood into the GOP national security brain trust in the Senate led by Graham and McCain.
It is an unusual role for a first-term senator, particularly one who arrived in Washington without a national profile. But Ayotte has been tapped repeatedly by the GOP to carry the party’s message. …
Ayotte’s name is regularly included on long lists of Republicans who might run for president in 2016. She laughed off that speculation. “I don’t know where they get that,” she said.

Meh. She’s great where she is, but no to all of the national ticket crap.

She’s Palin, but more low-key, not quite as bold.

My bet: Obama’s pushing Rice for 2016. Odds, 60:40.

Agreed. She’s a wonderful Senator and will be great as the new amiga now that Lieberman is leaving. However, her speech at the convention was a mess. No national ticket.. however is being an influential Senator that awful. The GOP woman most likely to get on a ticket is Condi Rice, especially if Marco Rubio is the nominee for the purpose of being a bit more adult and having foreign policy experience.

Lagged behind advancing women in powerful positions? Does Condi Rice ring a bell? Susana Martinez? Kay Bailey Hutchinson? Sarah Palin?
Is a low level delusional state a necessary requirement to work for the Washington Compost? Good grief, we are so screwed.

I just wet myself with how great that ticket would be. Now we can broaden our appeal and not just be them ol fart white guys. /

The only reason media notice her is because she came out so quickly against Mitt Romney after the election.
Capitalist Hog on December 1, 2012 at 10:26 PM
If the GOP establishment and the MSM like her then she must be great! /sarc
Count me as skeptical of Ayotte but I can’t condemn her based on her allies alone so will keep an open mind. If she’s the next McCain/Graham/Lieberman then thumbs down.
FloatingRock on December 1, 2012 at 10:33 PM
This is just the Washington Post telling their readers who Ayotte is before they commence with their efforts to demonize her.

Heh, yup. Here for my own fun, anyway.

She’s one of the candidates that Palin spotted and plucked from obscurity in 2010.
VidOmnia on December 1, 2012 at 11:22 PM
Sen Ayotte might be the best but, she is being mentored by the two biggest RINOS in congress to influence her in their progressive mush. Once they are done she will be just like the senators from Maine. Lets hope Ted Curz’s mentor is Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.
tjexcite on December 1, 2012 at 11:35 PM
The reason Ayotte is key right now is the kneejerk BS claims of “sexism! racism!” whenever anyone criticizes Rice
Now the sexism excuse is thrown out the door. It’s nice having her in the forefront in these times of identity politics, instead of the “cranky old white men” McCain and Grahamnesty
They can only call Ayotte a racist at least

Dude, we ran one for VP. You crucified her.
