Right... It's not like Dear Leader actually wants all those taxes, really does want a another <strike>stimulus </strike>porkulus to pay off his supporters, and actually wants unlimited unrestrained power to borrow trillions. He doesn't. It's not like he doesn't want to cut federal government spending -- he really does. Even though these demands are all consistent with his behavior and rhetoric the past four years, they are all just "negotiating" positions. He is actually quite serious about cutting the deficit, even though his star wealthy cheerleader, Buffet, and his SoT essentially say that trillion dollar deficits okay and no problem whatsoever. However its really important and critical to reduce those deficits by 5-10% by taxing the "wealthy" more. /s

Only fools, useful idiots, and socialist zealots can believe all of this. Those that do not and still promote it are power hungry fascists.

Obama, the Dems, and their hack propaganda enablers in the MSM and Hollywood are dishonest (but they have the best of intentions and goals and are battling evil, ya'know). You cannot believe a word they say.

L.I.B. is tempting but I know full well who that will hit hardest - median and lower income households who have suffered enough.

The rest will suck it up, bitch, and probably cut costs across the board - less retail spending and less charitable giving will be the headliners. That will trickle down but leftists reject the idea of trickle down so it will be dismissed.

Allah is a wizard with cross tabs - do these households vote for more punishment?

<blockquote>But Democrats say the Republican response is little more than faux outrage, and that the White House offer is simply how negotiations are conducted, especially given that Obama comfortably won reelection after campaigning for higher taxes on the wealthy.</blockquote>

"comfortably won reelection after campaigning for higher taxes on the wealthy?"

That's a rather convenient way of saying "squeaked by after running the most negative election campaign imaginable as an incumbent against perhaps the weakest candidate the opposition had chosen in many years, who was still a person of superior moral fiber to most that had come before him."

Democrats are overplaying their hand in a big way, unless they're counting the media cover as part of their hand, in which case they're doing exactly as they should be doing.

Then ... nothing. We're in the American Socialist Superstate, anyway. Let the left go full-force with their mockery of the concept of law. It's true that only the dimmest bulbs ever would not know what Barky and the dems are all about at this point ... but the Indonesian did just get voted back in. Let the remaining people who actually love America see what the rest of the country installed. Maybe that will help speed up the divorce, which is really a must at this point.

Exactly. The Dems have been doubling down on everything, and getting away with it, because they know the MSM will never question or call them on anything.

Fine in theory. Except it won't actually stop Obama from spending. Either he'll ignore the limit or issue an EO raising it. Probably the former. Then what?

No need for amny counter-offer (who bothers to even try to negotiate with people who exhibit nothing but bad faith, such as the Indonesian Dog-Eater and his leftist junta?). Just don't raise the debt limit. end of story. Force the feral government to live within its means and nothing else. That's it. Should have been done back in Feb 2011.

If the America-hating left wants access to some more debt, the GOP (if they had a brain) could offer to raise the debt limit by a half-trillion - but ONLY with the proviso that a full repeal of ObamaScare is part of the debt limit bill.
