The case for more guns (and more gun control)
But these gun-control efforts, while noble, would only have a modest impact on the rate of gun violence in America.
Why?
Because it’s too late.
There are an estimated 280 million to 300 million guns in private hands in America—many legally owned, many not. Each year, more than 4 million new guns enter the market. …
Which raises a question: When even anti-gun activists believe that the debate over private gun ownership is closed; when it is too late to reduce the number of guns in private hands—and since only the naive think that legislation will prevent more than a modest number of the criminally minded, and the mentally deranged, from acquiring a gun in a country absolutely inundated with weapons—could it be that an effective way to combat guns is with more guns?
Today, more than 8 million vetted and (depending on the state) trained law-abiding citizens possess state-issued “concealed carry” handgun permits, which allow them to carry a concealed handgun or other weapon in public. Anti-gun activists believe the expansion of concealed-carry permits represents a serious threat to public order. But what if, in fact, the reverse is true? Mightn’t allowing more law-abiding private citizens to carry concealed weapons—when combined with other forms of stringent gun regulation—actually reduce gun violence?

I’m all for better gun control. One time I emptied a full magazine of a Baby Browning at a man sized target ten feet away and missed. It was very embarrassing to say the least. People have to have the ability too control where their rounds go or they may get hurt. If it was a real intruder I may very well not have been around to tell my tale of gun control.

Guns are inherently racist, isn’t that reason enough to ban them?

More guns, sure, if you want. More laws? No. Especially not at the national level. They don’t even enforce the current laws. If past is any guide, any new laws will be vaguely written (so you never know if you’re obeying it or not) and will inevitably be used to erode our rights further. Just say “no” to bigger government.

LMAO! Reading this article is like watching a young child finally, and wondrously understand a new fact of life.

As of yesterday, make that 280,000,001 to 300,000,001
I celebrated Dear Leader’s re-election by buying another carry pistol.

Law abiding citizen with a concealed carry permit: Not a threat to me.
Anti-gun activist: A threat to everyone.

A co-worker was driving in town one day when some nut started following him and screaming at him. They got to a light and as the guy jumped out of his car the co-worker took his handgun out and placed it on the dash. He kept his window up and didn’t even turn around to look at the guy. The guy came up … took one look at the gun, turned around and got back in his car.
He was just some nut with road rage and a possible altercation with injuries was averted simply by showing the gun.

Well, of course. But reducing gun violence is more the pretext than the motivation. Gun control has become a tenet of the progressive religion, an essential element of controlling their utopian society, and its effect on gun violence is largely beside the point.

Exactly. Adequate gun control is a firm two-handed grip, modified-Weaver stance, pushing out from the body (rather than rotating up) to increase retention at point-blank ranges, and squeeze don’t jerk the trigger. Oh, and focus on your target, not the sights.

I wish people like this would get their facts straight.
Private sales, wherever the take place are not subject to background checks unless there is a state law requiring it. FFL holders, even at gun shows, are required to do background checks. Internet sales have to go through at least one FFL where a background check is required.

Yep.

Pretty sure people like this are capable of doing the research. The problem is, the facts do not favor the messaging.

Bulk ammo sales on the rise.
You 0bama voters best not come begging us conservatives for food, when the economy inevitably collapses.

Can you elaborate on this? I’m not sure what you mean, exactly, but I want to.

In 2010, 606 people, 62 of them children younger than 15, died in accidental shootings.
And 3956 people died of Accidental Drowning in swimming pools 943 of them children younger than 15.
In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control having a swimming pool in a household is something like 21.6 to 27.8 times as likely to lead to an accidental death as having a firearm, when looking at the numbers for all age groups. For children less than 15, the difference is more like 52.8 to 68.0 times as likely.

What part of “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,” gives these thumb-heads trouble?
chimney sweep on November 30, 2012 at 5:51 PM
I might add that since 2000 the annual statistics for children accidently run over by a car backing out of a driveway has been higher than accidental death by firearm.
Yet do gooders have no groups to control sale and distribution of Swimming Pools or cars.
(BTW, accidental Drowning Numbers get even bigger if you include Hot tubs)

Because in the history of fascist/communist takeovers the resistance has never fought back with swimming pools.

Actually if that had been a real intruder, you would have had plenty of DNA-containing evidence left behind by said intruder (which leaked out of his shorts as he ran off!).

Pretty darn simple.
Gun control means hitting what you aim to hit when you mean to hit it, as close to dead center as possible.
Anything else is a disguised attempt for control of the population.

I read that entire article. It reads like the ramblings of an undergraduate sociology student high on pot. This bit was left on the editing room floor:
