Boehner slams Democrats’ filibuster plan
House Speaker John Boehner warned Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid not to proceed with “heavy-handed” efforts to change Senate filibuster rules by a simple majority vote. The speaker promised to kill any bill approved under the altered rules that reached the House.
“Senate Democrats’ attempt to break Senate rules in order to change Senate rules is clearly designed to marginalize Senate Republicans and their constituents while greasing the skids for controversial partisan measures,” Boehner said in a statement. “I question the wisdom of this maneuver, especially at a time when cooperation on Capitol Hill is critical, and fully support Leader McConnell’s efforts to protect minority rights, which are an essential part of our constitutional tradition.
“Any bill that reaches a Republican-led House based on Senate Democrats’ heavy-handed power play would be dead on arrival.”

Boehner should have also mentioned how hypocritical it is, considering Democrats (including that worthless junior senator named Obummer) used to be big fans of the filibuster.

That went down the memory hole long ago. Democrats never obstruct- they simply do their best against the “party of no” \s

Nice. I’m glad Boehner said this. Hope he means it.

Aside from those persistent rumors of being a serial pedophile, Harry Reid actually is in the first stages of dementia. Listen to him speak. It ain’t booze. He is in stage 1 Alzheimer’s.

He’ll fold. It’s what he does.

I certainly agree but unfortunately Boehner rarely follows up strong talk with action, he always caves. That’s why I don’t think the Dems take a thing he says seriously, or even listen to him. But, I’m still hoping he’ll show resolve this time.

Maybe Boehner should promise to put into place similar rules in the House to marginalize Democrat minority power if Reid proceeds with his plan. Two should be able to play this game.
