The officer, normally assigned to the Sixth Precinct in the West Village, readily recalled the encounter. “It was freezing out and you could see the blisters on the man’s feet,” he said in an interview. “I had two pairs of socks and I was still cold.” They started talking; he found out the man’s shoe size: 12…
Mr. Cano volunteered to give the officer his employee discount to bring down the regular $100 price of the all-weather boots to a little more than $75. The officer has kept the receipt in his vest since then, he said, “to remind me that sometimes people have it worse.”

Treat thy neighbor as thyself. God bless Officer DiPriemo (sp)!

If that doesn’t warm your heart after all the crummy news today.
God bless you officer.

That much for a pair of Skeechers?

Great story, and a wonderful man.

There are heroes like that among us every single day, they just don’t happen to get their pictures taken and posted to the Internet. They are just ordinary everyday people helping someone in a jam. That is why I love the people of my country so much.

Bark once gave a pair of boots to someone too, and as soon as the concrete dried the dude was pushed overboard.

So nice to hear that. Yes, we are angered and ashamed that voters chose Obama again. But we must always appreciated the good in our fellow countrymen.

And then the homeless man used his new boots to walk to the crack house.

Beautiful, beautiful story. This young officer’s parents must be so proud…

Nice to see things have improved a little since the days cops in Grand Central Station videotaped eachother strolling around naked harassing the homeless. I had a highly unpleasant run-in with a couple of them once on a station platform, and I was fully clothed at the tine.

As were they.

Yes. There’s an abundance of footwear in this country and a surplus of people who would help this man, but he probably has intractable addictions and probably has been given a 1,000 chances already.
The comments at NYT are predictably ignorant and trite.

I particularly liked the comment that blamed Romney. What does he have to do with this guy being homeless? OTOH Obama’s been in office for FOUR FLIPPING YEARS!!!
txhsmom on November 30, 2012 at 2:30 AM
How can there possibly be a homeless person, much less a human without shoes in democrat utopia?
I’m shocked!
