Gingrich: House Republicans should stop negotiating with Obama
“There is no fiscal cliff. It’s absolute, total, nonsense,” Gingrich said.
“It is an excuse to panic. It’s a device to get all of us running down the road so we accept whatever Obama wants because otherwise we have failed the fiscal cliff, and how can you be a patriot if you don’t do what the fiscal cliff requires, and the fiscal cliff will appear to us one afternoon, much like the land of Oz, where there will be this person hiding behind the machine who will say, ‘Raise taxes now,’” Gingrich intoned, “and if you don’t raise taxes you’ll have violated the fiscal cliff.”
“Now, do any of you want to be the person who stands up and destroys America by violating the fiscal cliff? Do you want to go on one of the national networks and explain that you are so reactionary, so out of touch with life, that you don’t care that America is going to die late on Thursday?” Gingrich scoffed.

I wonder how many Americans actually even know what the “fiscal cliff” entails.

Why have we adopted the liberal terminology again? Giving it a dramatic name like “fiscal cliff” should have been a tipoff from the beginning.
forest on November 29, 2012 at 2:09 PM
boehner has the largest majority GOP held house and yet can’t get anything done?
Newt Gingrich was the most successful House Speaker because he knew how to use the power of the office. He spoke directly to the people, giving them progress reports and using Clinton’s popularity as a weapon against him. Newt mastered it well, and should be tutoring Boehner on this.
Nancy Pelosi was more successful than Boehner.

Listen to the man with no job. Listen to the man who preaches conservative family values but lives like a rave-pimp.
Obama won the election. Gingrich won one debate.
If we ignore the people, they will ignore the party and it will wither away and die.

Don’t call it “fiscal cliff” call it “Democrats done spent everything again.”

Newt Gingrich is to the GOP as John Ziegler is to Sarah Palin.
Capitalist Hog on November 29, 2012 at 2:20 PM
Newt should run for Senate or something. He is the only politician I know of who challenges the Democrats. Maybe Newt can run against Mark Warner.
Punchenko on November 29, 2012 at 2:21 PM
Less impact of liberal media and it helps that during his glory years republicans had the senate.
Zaggs on November 29, 2012 at 2:21 PM
How about refuting the points he makes, rather than engaging in character attacks?
steebo77 on November 29, 2012 at 2:22 PM
Again the republicans are being played the fool. Let the senate propose a budget as required. Let them own the cuts, or the non-cuts or the ride over the fiscal cliff. They won, it is their show. The republicans are not required to offer cuts, a plan or to even negotiate.
The republicans will end up negotiating with themselves by proposing cuts. It is ridiculous, amateurish and painful to watch. And worse in the end by doing so they will garner blame.
Newt is exactly right.

I thought the rationale behind the whole sequestration deal was to avoid the fiscal cliff. That was the trade off for raising the debt ceiling. Now we are calling fiscal restraint in itself to be a “fiscal cliff”? There’s no hope, man, no hope at all.

Considering Obama doesn’t negotiate anyway — the Emperor need only issue orders and dictate edicts to his government ministers — there’s no point other than for show.

What should the republicans do specifically regarding the impending “fiscal cliff”.

Obama is not interested in comprimise, debate, or SOLUTIONS. He is creating poilitical theater, AGITPROP, to demagogue republicans with. That is all. Obama doesn;t care about deficits, he doesn;t care about default, he doesn’t give one single damn about any of the blind morons that voted for him.
Not one bit.

I don’t want my taxe-rate raised because I don’t want to be taxed unfairly. In all honesty, I WONT be taxed unfairly. I will absolutely find a way to equalize any hit I take.
Yes, sometimes that means shorter hours for some. I don’t see firing anybody.
But frankly, I just don’t thin I should pay more than any other legal citizen would pay provided they are employed.
Taxes are f*cked. That’s how I feel.

Newt is right. But he’s just saying what lots of conservatives have said in the past couple weeks.
The truth is, at this point the only people the GOP is negotiating with is the GOP. The Democrats haven’t made any proposals. And whatever Republicans offer is going to be criticized.
If I was Boehner, I’d come out every day and say “We eagerly await the President’s plan. We know the American people endorsed Obama, and we’re waiting to follow his lead. It’s time we saw what Obama’s ideas will do, and we won’t stand in his way.”

Totally agree – The Demoncrats will pummel Republicans in the 2014 mid-terms by villifying them about breaking their tax pledge if they agree to tax hikes. If the Republicans don’t agree to do everything the Demoncrats demand, they will be villified for causing a deeper recession.
All the Demoncrats are looking for is to break the ranks of the Republicans and take total control of all three branches of government.

Newt is right, there is no “fiscal cliff”, it’s made up drama.
No reason to panic, and no reason to give Obama a stage to pontificate from…simple statements…
“Before we talk about anything financial, we need a budget”, that should be on every politician’s lips…followed up by “If they are not serious about a budget there is no discussion, since we don’t have a budget to discuss”….
They should hammer away, day and night…

Perhaps, but you have to admit that she had a HUGE advantage by having most of the mainstream press on her side.
Nonetheless, you’re right about Gingrich and how he handled the job. In the interest of his party and of the American people, he should be giving Boehner some pointers. Kind of a crash course in “Speaker of the House 101.”

Which brings us back to the biggest failure of the GOP.
Messaging. They are utterly incompetent at it.
Both parties will lie to you of course, but the Democrats are far more slick at it. Even with a catamite media, they are still head and shoulders above the GOP when it comes to messaging.

Aww. Chivalry ain’t dead. Thanks snuggles.
I donated a lot of money nationally and locally this campaign-season. I expect more than whoops and cheers. I want effective politicking. I know many are more interested in camaraderie and hating Obama. That’s not my gig.
It behooves Republicans to acknowledge voters’ will. Doing so now will earn us good graces later.
Like it or not we look like the whiny little ________ that I would normally look to the left to find.

I would probably feel more randy and emboldened if I had volunteered my time instead of donating money. That may be one benefit of this year’s loss.
This gives us a real chance to bone-up on grassroots and social organizing. I do look forward to that. Maybe then I will become one of the thoughtless hordes clamoring for nothing more than a hatef***.
Until then I will opt for sanity.
