After both were arrested, they received 6 year sentences but were released after 1 year. I don’t know why they allowed the opera singer to remain in France. They should have kicked him back to Red China. Also, there was no sex change involved. He just “hid” it. The diplomat eventually came out of the closet and is now shacked up with some guy.

Pssht. I saw that film (minus this story’s pen!s reshaping/testicle removal). It was M. Butterfly, based on both the opera Madame Butterfly, and a real British Diplomat who swore the chick he was banging (and leaking secrets to) for 2 decades was not a man, despite the male “baggage” that was very apparent to Secret Service.
