“I apologize to my Jewish compatriots for my declarations that could be misunderstood”
Gyongyosi’s call came after Foreign Ministry State Secretary Zsolt Nemeth said Budapest favored a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as benefiting both Israelis with Hungarian ancestry, Hungarian Jews and Palestinians in Hungary.
Gyongyosi told Parliament: “I know how many people with Hungarian ancestry live in Israel, and how many Israeli Jews live in Hungary,” according to a video posted on Jobbik’s website late on Monday.
“I think such a conflict makes it timely to tally up people of Jewish ancestry who live here, especially in the Hungarian Parliament and the Hungarian government, who, indeed, pose a national security risk to Hungary.”

I take it he’s not apologizing for those declarations which could not be misunderstood, nor clarifying into which category we should parse different bits of his speech.

Creepy!
Blake on November 27, 2012 at 7:20 PM
How are they security threats exactly? I don’t understand the original demagoguery.
John_Locke on November 27, 2012 at 7:23 PM
Gyongyosi is a real dangerous nutball who loves the Muslims. This does not surprise me one bit.
JPeterman on November 27, 2012 at 7:26 PM
Different cultures are automatically a threat.
ernesto on November 27, 2012 at 7:26 PM
I *think* he’s trying to say that national security might be an issue because there are Jooooos in the country and crazy Mozlems everywhere.
You know, same deal as Salman Rushdie (who was afforded state protection by the British for a time) and Ayaan Hirsi Ali (who was not, because Holland didn’t want to run the risk).
CorporatePiggy on November 27, 2012 at 7:28 PM
And many of those leftist Jews will shriek and cry as Israel tries to defend itself, not getting that Israel may be their last refuge if guys like this take power.
sharrukin on November 27, 2012 at 7:30 PM
I wonder if he has a dog-eared copy of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion in his library as well? I hear that’s a big seller in Muslim countries.
sharrukin on November 27, 2012 at 7:33 PM
This story is creepy as Blake says above. Of course they’re not threats….the threat excuse is just the current excuse.
What makes this evident is the attached BBC news item about how the British government, and the BEEB itself refrained from warning Jews that they needed to flee Hungary because the Nazis were coming. This was because of so-called security grounds as well. The British silence meant that the Jews did not flee and as a consequence over 500,000 of Hungary’s 800,000 Jews were dead within just a few weeks of the German occupation. The article is horrendous and becomes even more poignant when read together with today’s news. If that is not enough, re-read last weekend’s article in The Beast asking whether it was moral that Israel act legally AND effectively in its own defence.
Then ask whether the phrase “never again” means anything at all.
Blaise on November 27, 2012 at 7:33 PM
If that’s the case, why aren’t Palestinians being tallied as well?
John_Locke on November 27, 2012 at 7:39 PM
I know you’re being a facetious ****head, but actually, Jews *were* a threat to secular, non-collective European governments in the early 20th Century; they were some of the strongest, most strident and most effective peddlers of socialism. Indeed, one reason for the continuing liberalism of many American Jews can be found in the socialist roots of many early 20th century immigrants from Europe, who found a new land that was ripe for their political preaching.

Gyongyosi, 35, is the son of a diplomat who grew up mostly in the Middle East and Asia — Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan and India — and whose office is decorated by Iranian and Turkish souvenirs.

Meh. Counting Latinos is now the policy of both Republicans and Democrats.
Seth Halpern on November 27, 2012 at 7:47 PM
I’m really not sure that the Brit’s were entirely responsible. Hungary was basically aligned with the Germans and President of Hungary never really warned the Jews, thinking all was well and that he could stall Hitler because the end of the war was in sight.
JPeterman on November 27, 2012 at 7:48 PM
Yep.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on November 27, 2012 at 7:50 PM
Yes.
You do realize also that the Allies had surveillance photograph taken from the air of the death camps? That they knew exactly what was going down from at least 43 and said nothing for the sake of OPSEC?
There’s more than a little bit of guilt to go around when it comes to the Final Solution.

The Jewish socialist population is still huge. But I made my comment primarily with regard to the way conservatives disregard the fact that European anti-semetic nationalism isn’t actually any different than the typical American conservative brand of nationalism. The evangelicals here create a different relationship with Israel, but by and large their need for cultural purity is the same motivation of those “far right” parties in Europe that you keep trying to distance yourselves from.
ernesto on November 27, 2012 at 7:51 PM
Ummm, no. Not releasing photos of the camps, and throwing people into the gas chambers are two very distinct things.
sharrukin on November 27, 2012 at 7:55 PM
You haven’t spent much time in Europe have you?
Anti-semitism is not about racial purity, it is a lot older than that.
The european ‘neo-nazi’ parties are hard left statists and racists just as the original nazis were and just as the monarchies of old were.
To conflate this with American evangelicalism just shows how desperately biased, ignorant, and inconsistent you are.
CorporatePiggy on November 27, 2012 at 7:58 PM
That’s completely retarded. There is no comparison between American politics and European politics. The systems are totally different … well, they were while we followed our Constitution.
The fact that you think there is any comparison bewteen American conservatives and Eurotrash rightists shows what a total idiot you are. The anti-semites in America are the left. The left in America are the ones who are pushing for a new Holocaust in Israel. The left in America share much with the left around the world because the American left is divorced from American governance and wishes to be like the rest of the world – without the American Constitution, with a collectivist, asinine, unseparated party-oriented parliamentary system with unlimited powers to shape society as they see fit. The American left, in their desire to be so un-American, is the only part of American politics that shares anything with political parties outside of America. American conservatives want the Constitution followed, which is uniquely American and cannot exist in any other nation, as they are constructed differently and are not amenable to our Constitutional structure, even if some group of people wanted it.
Get a brain.

It’s a classic moral dilemma.
And no, killing people is not the same as watching them be killed and biding your time.
But no one comes out clean.
CorporatePiggy on November 27, 2012 at 8:00 PM
As far as I know, there is only one political movement paying any attention to America’s cultural makeup with the same zeal of a European right winger, and that’s the typical American conservative. The whole, “Judeo-Christian” cultural heritage thing? That’s nationalism, in the same vein as the Golden Dawn in Greece, and other nationalistic, xenophobic European parties. That their racism is much more pronounced doesn’t change the fact that they oppose immigration and cultural diversity for the same reasons you do.
ernesto on November 27, 2012 at 8:03 PM
That’s better.
Thank you for confessing your ignorance and bigotry patriot.
tom daschle concerned on November 27, 2012 at 8:05 PM
You are an idiot.
JPeterman on November 27, 2012 at 8:07 PM
So long as you refrain from offering some argument to the contrary, I’ll have to assume that while you think it makes me a bigot to say so, you don’t actually disagree.
ernesto on November 27, 2012 at 8:07 PM
The Judeo-Christian foundations of America are a matter of record and are embodied in the contitution and the entire legal system. Much of this was borrowed from English law. There is no racism or nationalism implied in that, it is historical fact. So you can take that strawman away and burn it.
You won’t find any mainstream conservative who opposes immigration. You will find that most oppose illegal immigration (a federal crime) because it undermines the Rule of Law.
Nationalism and Racism are historically the province of extreme leftism – Communists and Nazis exist on exactly the same political plane. That totalitarian instinct to control every aspect of life and crush dissent is a peculiarly leftist trait.
D-.

La Raza ring a bell?
‘Typical White Person’ – Barack Obama
And then there’s that Ernesto fellow who keeps going on, and on, and on, about race.
sharrukin on November 27, 2012 at 8:10 PM
Wrong, retard. The American left cares more about “diversity” and making sure that their pet groups get pet positions than anyone. The American left wants skin considerations put into law (as they are with affirmative action, minority set-asides, and the like). The American Left is all skin and ethnicity based. Not the American right. You seem to have little respect for the concept of national sovereignty. Of course, that’s because you clearly despise the concept of the nation-state.
ROFLMAO. Nationalism? Do you even know what the word means? Moron.
LOL. There is such a thing as American culture – which is why America didn’t appear everywhere in the world. Any society that imagines itself divorced from its population is a dead society.
Again, there is no comparison with American governance and Eurotrash governance. The systems are diametrically opposed, almost. But, you’re too stupid to understand that so I won’t bother trying to explain it to you.
Tell me, though, why didn’t America appear anywhere else? Why has no other nation taken the American Constitutional Republic as its model since our inception (save the Phillipines, of course, but implemented in a perverted way)? According to you, there should have been Americas all over the world. Where are they?

Judeo-christendom’s invasion and rape of this continent is a matter of historical record, yes, but to argue that its core tenets be an undying American characteristic, in light of cultural changes to the population’s majority, is nationalistic.

ernesto, why are you so antisemitic?

I was so hopeful, so very hopeful this election as the last chance to save my country, even though Mitt wasn’t my first choice. I got my husband to vote and my 20 yr. old son to vote for the first time. I live in a very Dem. part of Ohio and saw no sighns for Obama, so I was hopeful! But as a Christian i know that no country stands with Israel in the end. So I just take this as Gods plan. Call me crazy but it is not a big surprise that all this hatred toward Jews is not unknown to anyone that pays attention.

ROFLMAO. It’s a shame the Americas weren’t left to the noble savages who were tearing beating hearts out in their bloodlust worship. Yeah … great stuff. Peaceful. Man, you are truly pathetic. Not even an ounce of sense in your head. Where’d you learn your history? Cuba?
Go crawl back under your rock.

NAZI is the abbreviation for National Socialist German Worker’s Party.
Comparing a collectivist, socialist party to conservatives is idiotic.
Like the Nazi Party, the Golden Dawn in Greece is based on class warfare. The OWS movement was endorsed by the Stormfront.
Goebbels was inspired by the American Progressives, for example Buck v. Bell and eugenics in general. That’s very well documented.
Gelsomina on November 27, 2012 at 9:53 PM
That’s nonsense. The left is obsessed with race. You can’t stop talking about it. You have turned Martin Luther King’s words upside down. The left doesn’t judge a person by his/her character, but solely by the color of his/her skin.
