Exclusive: Leaked graph suggests Iran working on nuclear bomb
Iranian scientists have run computer simulations for a nuclear weapon that would produce more than triple the explosive force of the World War II bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, according to a diagram obtained by The Associated Press.
The diagram was leaked by officials from a country critical of Iran’s atomic program to bolster their arguments that Iran’s nuclear program must be halted before it produces a weapon. The officials provided the diagram only on condition that they and their country not be named.
The International Atomic Energy Agency — the Vienna-based U.N. nuclear watchdog — reported last year that it had obtained diagrams indicating that Iran was calculating the “nuclear explosive yield” of potential weapons. A senior diplomat who is considered neutral on the issue confirmed that the graph obtained by the AP was indeed one of those cited by the IAEA in that report. He spoke only on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue.

Good Job AP. How soon can we expect your “exclusive” story on 2+2=4?

Who cares? We have bigger problems like the fact people still have to pay for their own birth control. Give us free birth control and then, maybe we can talk about iran having nukes, unless there’s something else we decide we want for free of course.
clearbluesky on November 27, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Yeah, they’re only researching nukes to make sure they know how to avoid ever constructing one by accident. Sort of the Principal Skinner “I was only in there to find out how to get away from there” excuse.
JeremiahJohnson on November 27, 2012 at 2:54 PM
Hey now, let’s let Joe Biden explain why this isn’t a big deal.
DeathtotheSwiss on November 27, 2012 at 2:57 PM
As a sovereign nation Iran has every right to pursue nuclear weaponry and energy.
Dante on November 27, 2012 at 3:01 PM
Wow, thank goodness for leaked graphs, huh? Otherwise this could have really taken us by surprise.
lynncgb on November 27, 2012 at 3:03 PM
I thought it was pretty well common knowledge that they’re working on a bomb. Who, exactly, is shocked by this news?
dczombie on November 27, 2012 at 3:17 PM
That may be so. Except, they have repeatedly said they have no design on a nuclear bomb. They may be “sovereign”, but they are not to be trusted.
Jabberwock on November 27, 2012 at 3:37 PM
So?
Dante on November 27, 2012 at 4:02 PM
They can certainly try. They deserve to be bombed deeper into the Stone Age for doing so, however, as they are lunatics who threaten the world enough as it is. Their being a sovereign nation means that the whole nation should be reduced to rubble to stop their efforts and cease them from ever trying again. That’s what their “sovereignty” means in this case.

Not to worry, Joe the Genius told us in the debate that enriching the fissile material is the “easy part” of building a nuke. The hard part, according to Joe, is building the delivery device.
Nevermind that Iran already has the missiles, and plans for nuclear detonators are all over the internet.
My money is on the fact that they already have a bomb ready to go, and are just working on the fissile material. As soon as that’s ready, watch the mushroom clouds rising over the Middle East.

EEEK! A graph, of all things! Oh, I’m so scaaaared!
