College launches new research institute devoted to pot
A public university located in one of California’s prime pot-growing regions has formed an academic institute devoted to marijuana.
The Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research at Humboldt State University plans to sponsor scholarly lectures and coordinate research among 11 faculty members from fields such as economics, geography, politics, psychology and sociology. …
The institute is probably the first dedicated to examining marijuana through the lens of multiple disciplines, according to sociologist Josh Meisel, who is leading the enterprise with Eschker. Humboldt faculty started discussing the idea in 2010 when California was preparing to vote on a bitterly contested ballot proposition that would have treated marijuana like alcohol.

Never thought I would see my college on hotair. Yeah Humboldt County is known as the pot capital and the college itself is pretty liberal.

Are they going to teach some basic business skills about how to run a dispensary or other small business? If not, what’s the point? Just another liberal arts degree with no prospects for actual employment. Uncle Sugar’s student loan trap strike again!

The smartest people today are the ones who don’t go to college.

I’m sure all the research will be unbiased and scientific and continued until the science is settled.

I was there at that time too. My SUNY campus (Geneseo) bought us keg after keg to keep us from smoking the evil weed. They even let us buy beer with meal tickets. We had drinking derbies sponsored by the local bars. Alcoholism was rampant and pot smokers hid out on the ball fields.

I was at SUNY New Paltz, the hippie capital of the SUNY system. The town had at least twelve bars in three blocks, and was an easy
walkstumble from campus. There was plenty of drinking going on in addition to the pot smoking, quaalude popping and acid dropping. i was on the dean’s list while I was there! Easy as pie with all the burn-outs and affirmative-action morons around. Many freaks and faeries still live there. The ones who aren’t dead, I mean.Naturally Curly on November 27, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Piker. I’d light up after supper in the cafeteria. Attended all my classes, did my homework, but recreation time was for recreating. Humboldt is for amateurs.

Why is smoking pot not frowned upon the same as smoking cigarettes? Is there something in pot smoke that has beneficial effects other than getting high? When will the Surgeon General and Doctors and do gooders start their campaign to stop the harmful side effects threat to others? Maybe if they put health warnings……….
