“What good are gay rights if your country is falling apart?”
There is no way to measure their true numbers, but gay activists say that in many cases, these “unicorns” began life as Republicans first — driven by conservative upbringings, economic issues and libertarian principles. They often did not acknowledge their sexual orientation, even to themselves, until middle age…
At 18, she registered as a Republican, and though she briefly reconsidered her party affiliation when she came out, Ms. Smith voted for Mr. Romney, albeit reluctantly. Echoing the more than a dozen women interviewed for this article, Ms. Smith said that liberal lesbians reacted more negatively to her political views than conservatives do to her sexual orientation.
“Mention that you’re Christian or mention that you’re Republican and suddenly you just get vilified,” she said. “That may be one of the reasons for the lack of visibility of gay women in the Republican Party.”
Still, she said, “What good are gay rights if your country is falling apart?”

Astonerii, I wish I could have had children. it was not in the cards. I could have deceived some woman into fathering my a child or two, but both she and I would have been miserable. I had a first cousin who married a gay man. It nearly destroyed her. What I have been is a damn good uncle to my nine nieces and nephews.
In January I am going to take care of my grand nephew for four days, while my niece and her husband go off to some medical conference. She is a physicians assistant. In the meantime I am financially helping out a nephew who finally graduated from Party 101 at the age of 28. He has finally had an epiphany and knows that he needs to learn how to make a living and is going to trade school.

SC Charlie, you personally seem to be a pretty decent guy. So I have trouble figuring out why you would want to diminish marriage and add one more insult onto injury to the burdens this nation is succumbing to. I understand your desire for a life long relationship. I do not understand why you need to have it be called marriage first, and second, I do not understand why you need to have the government ordain your relationship as celebratory. Almost everything you need for a relationship similar to a marriage is available to you without a marriage contract.
Those few things that you do not have access to are either things that government provide to married couples due to their likelihood to produce the next generation to incentivize family creation, or are private concerns between you and non government entities, and here you are asking that the government step in and force those private entities to cater to you against their conscious.
If they wanted to provide you with family insurance and it was in their financial interest, they would. Personally, I have no idea why they do not provide it for you. But I do not see why you should desire to force them to.

Astonerii let us just leave it there. I only wish that heterosexuals would recognize that the institution of marriage and the blessing of having children is something they ought to cherish a lot more than they appear to do at this time.

Fair enough.
I agree with you on that. It was the communists who started the anti family ball a rolling.
