If “Girls” is a portent, we’re in trouble
At its core, Girls feels like a deliberate, dissective examination of a group of people who stubbornly refuse to grow up and are lucky enough to be able to pull it off. The main thing Dunham’s characters share is the idea that just because they exist, somebody else should give them stuff. In and of itself, depicting that isn’t at all a bad thing. Girls is an interesting project, it’s well executed, and it can be really, really funny. Look, I like Girls, and I’m excited about the second season.
But Dunham’s stupid little YouTube ad for the president might have ruined it all for me. That’s because she sounds like she’s channeling her character, Invasion of the Body Snatchers–style. They share the same baffling, naïvely egomaniacal understanding of justice — they both seem to think that because they exist, the universe needs to make sure that all the sex they choose to have is consequence-free.
You can almost argue that Lena Dunham sees President Obama as the perfect surrogate for everything missing in her characters’ lives: He’s their gentle lover, supportive parent, and empathetic friend. He’s special. He won’t let them down. He’s Prince Charming. And that kind of defeats the purpose of feminism.

That ad was like finger nails on a chalkboard to me – it symbolizes everything that’s wrong with this nation.

She has to be waaaaaaay hotter to pull it off.

Feminists aren’t interested in feminism.

Obama voters.
Being married to Uncle Sam is what its called. He’s not jealous and he always pays the bills.
Feminism was about evading responsibility and getting men to foot the bill, either directly or by government proxy.

No, it doesn’t. Embracing true feminism is embracing that we as humans are half of a whole. We are meant to love, to couple, to procreate and to create and support a family unit. Like a braid, we are stronger when three or more strands are woven together.

Young liberal women are the most pathetic, idiotic, self absorbed and immature people on the face of the planet. While there are certainly many young men like this as well, their actions typically do not require me to support their bad choices through my tax dollars. If women are truly equal then they can be responsible for their own lives. But instead they replace the so called patriarchy of old with a new patriarchal government. It always amazes me that people who are so self absorbed are also so incredibly un-self aware.

I saw the first season of “Girls.” The first episodes of the first year were excellent. Then for some reason, the last few episodes were terrible…it morphed from, “a comedy with dramatic moments,” to, “a drama with comedic moments.”
I’m going to give the second season a try, but it’ll be on a short leash for me.

Yeah. I loved Freaks and Geeks (likely because I was a bit of each in H.S.)
Hey, since Brian Williams is so snarky, not biting his tongue much nowadays, I wish he’d blurt out what he reeeealy thinks of his daughter’s role in Girls. THAT would be news!

I’ve very much enjoyed the show so far, it shows a bit of a cautionary tale to the current mentalities of my peers. Plus, its pretty funny. Also David Mamet’s daughter is a virgin in the show, and I like that they’re showing the kinds of issues we have at that age as well. And Brian William’s daughter is hot, so I don’t at all mind seeing her in sex scenes either. Just in general, I like the realism of the series.

Whatever else Dunham should or shouldn’t have, she certainly shouldn’t have the vote.

Hollywood doesn’t has hard coming out with coming of age movies and shows with female leads because it wants to deny the very nature of women.

You probably think that a liberal is someone who thinks people should be free to live their life as they see fit.
pedestrian on November 26, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Nope. I think liberals want government to take care of them so they never have to grow up.

You need some tattooed halfwit skank to let you know we’re trouble? The nation just re-elected an utter buffoon.
Ted Torgerson on November 27, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Actual a liberal is someone who wants to force everyone to live their lives the way the liberal wants.
Food, healthcare, thoughts, actions, how kids are raised, who you must hire, who must be accepted in school, and on and on and on.
Liberals are all about control.

Another ‘wildly popular’ show to leave me cold.
