Why was there a war in Gaza?
Hamas’s objective was to guarantee no further attacks on its leaders or on its weaponry, launch sites, and other terror and rocket infrastructure. And the lifting of Israel’s military blockade, which would allow a flood of new and even more deadly weapons. In other words, immunity and inviolability during which time Hamas could build unmolested its arsenal of missiles — until it is ready to restart the war on more favorable terms.
Yet another hudna, this one brokered and guaranteed by Egypt and Turkey, regional powers Israel has to be careful not to offend. A respite for rebuilding, until Hamas’s Gaza becomes Hezbollah South, counterpart to the terror group to Israel’s north, with 50,000 Iranian- and Syrian-supplied rockets that effectively deter any Israeli preemptive attack.
With the declaration of a ceasefire on November 21, Israel seems to have successfully resisted these demands, although there may be some cosmetic changes to the embargo. Which means that in any future fighting, Israel will retain the upper hand.
Israel has once again succeeded in defending itself. But, yet again, only until the next round, which, as the night follows the day, will come. Hamas will see to that.

Because there are Muslims there.

there wasn’t a war in Gaza. At best you could describe it as an artillery duel.
Stupid Gazans realized pretty quickly that it is never a good idea to kick a hornet’s nest that’s bigger than you are.

Because after a year of complaining to the UN and everyone else in the world about the constant rocket fire from Gaza Israel finally decided they had enough?
Unfortunately Israel is unlikely to step up to the needed action to deal with the sick society that is Gaza. The population’s will to fight must be destroyed, not just Hamas and Islamic Jihad. This won’t be done by such careful targeting.

Islam.

Because Israel has shown great forbearance in not going “scorched earth” and actually trying to avoid civilian casualties, unlike those that are opposed to Israel.
As a result, there are still living war criminals in the area to commit their crime, shielded by civilians of all ages.

Am I the only person that noticed Hamas’s escellation was right after Obama was re-elected? Maybe this is as simple as a test to see what, if anything, the US would do.
With Egypt again slated to obtain 4.5 billion for playing intermediary, and having declared a new dictator for their now Islamist regeime, a new war is only going to be delayed until after the situation in Syria is settled.

I think this was nothing more than probing by Iran. One, to see how well the Dome works, and two, to reset the narrative that Israel is an aggressive State.
Also agree with Freddy that this may have partially been to test the US’s response. As well as that of Egypt and Turkey. And I’m sure Iran was paying close attention to all of that.
