Romney wasn’t the problem
To the extent Republicans have a problem with their candidates, it’s not that they’re not conservative enough. Where are today’s Nelson Rockefellers, Arlen Specters or George H.W. Bushes? Happily, they have gone the way of leprosy.
Having vanquished liberal Republicans, the party’s problem now runs more along the lines of moron showoffs, trying to impress tea partiers like Jenny Beth Martin by taking insane positions on rape exceptions for abortion — as 2 million babies are killed every year from pregnancies having nothing to do with rape.
Romney lost because he was running against an incumbent, was beaten up during a long and vicious primary fight, and ran in a year with a very different electorate from 1980. At least one of those won’t be true next time. But we’re not going to win any elections by telling ourselves fairy tales about a candidate who lost because he wasn’t conservative enough, articulate enough or mean enough.

It does not matter what you meant by being put in that position retard. He volunteered and made the case HE AND HE ALONE COULD DO IT. He failed.
Since when has any election not been about what is in the interest of the individual voter. I wanted presents too, I wanted a balanced budget amendment! See, I want something for my vote!
Romney volunteered and used progressive tactics to push everyone else out of the line in order to do what you say he was forced into. To be in the position to woo the voters.
But he did offer them treats and candy. He offered them lower taxes, he offered them Secure Social Security and Secure medicare and more Medicare dollars, and he offered them new boats, err ships! He promised all kinds of goodies, the vast majority of them lefty desire items. He was out there going for the wrong voters. LIKE WE SAID HE WOULD BE in the PRIMARIES. No surprise that he did not get them.
ROMNEY PUT HIMSELF IN EVERY SITUATION THAT CAME WITH THE CAMPAIGN.

Thats weak.
Which crony capitalists (whatever the meaning du jour is) has the power of the President?
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:05 PM
Romney if he won.

Rules for Radical Conservatives by “David Kahane” 2010
yes, 2010. long before Romney was running. WE WERE WARNED. but we chose not to listen. because we thought we couldn’t lose.
WE CAN ALWAYS LOSE when we think we don’t have to put up a strong candidate that draws a sharp contrast with the other guy.

Retard, huh? Grow up.
No one in their right mind expected that people were going to be this stupid. If someone would have told you a year ago that Big Bird, a shortcut comment about binders and tampons were going to be talking points in a presidential election you would have called them… well… a retard.
So to expect ANY politician to have to go out there and have to sell a population indoctrinated with participation badges, free crap and other idiotic ideas conservatism in a few months and expect to be successful is delusional.
But you are delusional, whiny, and a baby. You say you were injured so I have been polite to you up to now as I wasn’t really sure of how much was your injury or how much was you being willfully stupid and petulant. I tried to engage you in a pleasant manner, but really FO. You are tiresome and really need to grow up. You are like a spoiled child wanting something and not liking that you can only have part of it or it’s not quite to your liking so you have a tantrum.
You can have the last word as I won’t be responding. You’ve become *that* tiresome and it’s like dealing with a 3 year old fixated on the word “why”.
kim roy on November 22, 2012 at 4:16 PM
How? By personally knocking on the doors of the 48 million people who sat home and watched CNN for their news? Just pop in and have an in depth discussion with them?
It’s like that saying…You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.
The fact is, that there were/are too many stupid people who will rationalize any reason to not act and sit it out and then bitsh about how screwed up everything is.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:17 PM
What the hell you talking about?
I don’t remember Romney claiming the way to solve the problems America faces is to rely on government.
When did he state this? Because, I recall him pointing to the power of the individual and free business as engines of growth.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:23 PM
Jimmy Carter, George Herbert Walker Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush, Obama! Nancy pelosi, Harry Reid, Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cain Train, Romney winning the Primary.
Seriously, NO ONE COULD imagine a stupid electorate that actually needed INVIGORATED EXCITED base members to help get to the voter booth on election day? NO ONE? NOT ONE PERSON? It was totally out of the blue that voters suddenly became lazy to get to the voter booth on election day? SERIOUSLY? So why do campaigns make such an effort on GET OUT THE VOTE EFFORTS? Is it because they never in a million years imagined the people sometimes need a little prodding to get tot he polls? You are serious! How cute. RETARD!
You are like dealing with a coolaid drinking sycophantic who lets her child be raped by her spiritual leader before you commit suicide. The Romney love is strong with this one. I got news for you… Romney AINT gonna be a God on his own planet.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:24 PM
…as engines of growth to fuel the required spending to pay for the welfare state.
I know, it is hard to type out everything you mean.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:26 PM
Wait..what?
Romney didn’t paint an extremely different picture of the direction for America, than Maobama did???
You can’t be serious.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:27 PM
That makes no sense. What are you referring to?
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:29 PM
No, he did not.
It was different, but the same. It was the dream of what Obama wants in Romney’s progressive view way.
Romney offered jobs, so the people filling the jobs would slavishly pay for the progressive government he would leave in place in toto. He offered to leave every social victory the Democrats got done in place.
That, along with his LONG LONG history of being a progressive pretty much made it a wash.
I call him the 2% difference candidate. If you computer runs 2% faster, it would take digital measurements for you to even notice. Something low information voters would never notice.

as i said above i think there’s a lot of things wrong with the R party.
but mitt was not a good candidate for 2012. I often heard descriptions of his facial expressions when not actually speaking (for example during the debates, etc)…they usually said something about a wry or slight smile.
usually, i thought that mitt had a wan expression of this face
1.of an unnatural or sickly pallor; pallid; lacking color: His wan face suddenly flushed.
2.showing or suggesting ill health, fatigue, unhappiness, etc.: a wan look; a wan smile.
3.lacking in forcefulness, competence, or effectiveness: their wan attempts to organize the alumni.
this is a TV and Celebrity and Hip centered country…eye-candy works. Prezy giving little pecks on the cheeks of this female admires Works.
So, which R would most girls like to kiss?????? and is photogenic???? and young, vibrant…and yes, hip?
and yet, can weave together the true narrative of America…that respects (but does not cave to) SoCons…and all the other R groups
r keller on November 22, 2012 at 4:32 PM
What I am saying is that his entire cutting of the deficit was not based on CUTS to the over bloated government, but by increased tax revenues from newly minted jobs we slaves fill so that we can pay for someone else’ grandma’s medicare and someone else’ grandpa’s social security check and food stamp allowance.
I think I was able to get my taxes down to 0 for federal income taxes this year. LET IT BURN.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:33 PM
The voices in your head are lying to you…..but maybe I’m wrong.
Where can I find Romney stating what I emphasized in your comment? Also the “handing out gifts” claim of yours…where did Romney state that?
Let me guess….you have to read between the lines..code words and dog whistles??
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:34 PM
(and btw, the left is deathly afraid of Rubio…they launched two attacks so far..pretty good for a first term Senator)
r keller on November 22, 2012 at 4:34 PM
That doesn’t matter.
When the field is down to two two men, you have a choice. Pick the American or pick the communist transplant.
People picked the communist.
It’s not Romneys fault..its the dumb people who picked the communist and the ones who sat it out or were too pure to vote.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:42 PM
So Romney is a communist?
(That was the comparison of choices that I posted and what Floatingrock responded to)
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Not everyone is engaged. As is obvious by the Get Out The Vote efforts every election cycle that is always considered critical has.
It is Romney’s fault. You drank too much coolaid and are not even remotely viewing anything in an honest way. We pick our candidates in order to sway the voters, other wise we should have picked Perry or Newt or Bachmann, all far better people for fixing the problems of the nation than Obama or Romney. Romney was picked for us because he was the guy who was supposed to be able to get the votes to win. It was expressly his job to make it happen. He failed, that is his own fault.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:48 PM
Your not very bright in how you post things… You asked what crony capitalist had the power of the president. The answer is Romney if he would have won… He is a crony capitalist and as prsident he would have the power of the president.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:50 PM
You’re delusional.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:52 PM
I wrote out exactly what he promised people. It is in his 87 page book that he used to get the unengaged voters to become engaged in the election. Romney is a loser, your still stuck on loving the loser, it is kind of weird.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:52 PM
Ann,
I respectfully disagree. Romney certainly was one of the problems. Many felt he was Obama-lite and could not be trusted. We heard that from several folks here at HA. I didn’t want to vote for him.
I said a year ago RomneyCare was an albatross around his neck that made him unelectable. I am not pleased to be correct. That was the big thing. There were many others. Too many. He was not a strong candidate and he did not finish.
dogsoldier on November 22, 2012 at 4:54 PM
You’re conflating two separate issues. Raising revenues….and cutting spending.
You seem to be claiming that Romney never advocated cutting spending or cutting programs and redundant agencies. Is this your position?
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 4:55 PM
Your reading comprehension seems to be very low.
He was not significantly viewed as different enough than Obama for many people to care to vote.
Proof? Vote totals.
Call them dumb and stupid, then expect them to back you. Who is the dumb and stupid one there?
Attack them relentlessly for 9 months, then expect them to get out the vote for you, who is the delusional one?
The last two debates Romney expressly did his best to be Obama, agreeing left and right with the President. It was like Watching Cain debate Newt!
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:56 PM
Never is a poor choice of words. I would go with, actively planned to, rarely spoke about, and was much more interested in talking about places he was going to raise spending. But he did talk about cutting things from time to time, to only later never repeat the words again.
But the raising revenues was a constant. 3.8 trillion is way more than the government needs to be spending. Romney would have been willing to cut that down to 4.3 trillion by 2020. Same old smoke and mirrors progressives always throw out there. A spending increase smaller than the planned increase is a CUT!
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 4:59 PM
I’m going to guess that you don’t realize it, but you’re advocating the same line of “reasoning” that has the GOP stating that we must move to the left in order to attract the voters.
The problem is not offering more “gifts” to the conservatives to win their vote. The numb voters have to wake up to the situation that the country is in.
That said, it’s all academic at this point…the most important election to the Republic is over..we lost and the country is lost. All you purists and 3rd partiers and lazy numbnuts, sold your country for a song and will acted shocked when you see what 4 more years of a communist will do to your life.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 5:03 PM
Indeed.
Anyway..stop listening to the “code”..and subliminal “dog whistles”.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar..and sometime a person says what he means.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 5:09 PM
I voted for the turd, so… there is that.
it is all accademic, and yet you and your friends are still here arguing that Romney is a god and infallible, it was the people who failed us.
Well, DUH, they have been failing us for as long as there has been a two party system. That is just how it goes.
Romney did a worse job of getting people to the voting booth than McCain did. With a billion dollars, double McCains money he had a worse GOTV effort, a worse advertising record, and was less known than McCain in the end, easily framed by the enemy. I do not call that competent. You can defend him from now until you die, it will never change the facts. Even if it is found out that Obama won due to voter fraud, it was still Romney’s job to have poll watchers to ensure it did not happen, and if it was the case, yet more FAILURE.
Romney was a loser in January, February, march, April, May, June, July, August, September, October he had a moment to shine, then quickly faded back to his leftist self, and particularly where it counts, November. Due to his asking for the job, fighting viciously to get the opportunity to for the job and knocking down several other good choices for the job, when he got the job, his heart just was no longer in it. Not willing to take the fight he gave to supposed allies to the enemy. Not willing to define himself properly. Not willing to cater to his base enough to get them excited. Not willing to give up on loving his Romneycare albatross in order to look sincere a little bit. Yeah, I am sorry, but the blame does land on Romney’s shoulders, as the saying goes, the buck stops here. You and him should man up and let the blame go to where it naturally belongs, the captain of the ship. Instead, it is all the crew’s fault, not because the captain did not know what he was doing.
astonerii on November 22, 2012 at 5:14 PM
He could only be viewed as not different enough from Obama by people who were dumb or stupid imo. What other reason could there be? One man was an American of strong moral character and the other was a communist thug with an administration made of of ideological and union thugs.
Anyone who could not see a difference is…dumb. Don’t shoot the messenger.
Who attacked them?? Not Romney. It was the left attacking tradional values as being held by throwbacks to the 50′s who shouldn’t be taken seriously.
That they did not defend themselves is not Romneys fault.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 5:18 PM
It seems you read a lot into things.
No one I know is claiming Romney is an Infallible god.
My position is that he is not a communist.
That should have been enough incentive to get people to vote for him.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 5:24 PM
Jeez, Ann, whine whine whine. And I’m sure 4 years from now, you’ll be doing the same bout Christie – Its not that he was a bad candidate, not that hes conservative enough. Losers are losers, Ann. Stop whining and move on. Next time, stop shilling for a candidate, would you? You have an innate ability to root for losers.
tommy71 on November 22, 2012 at 5:26 PM
Your opinion is pretty piss poor and very limited in scope as is your view of what was going on. You are effectively a 1960′s super computer compared to what is needed apparently to see the whole landscape which would be a 2000s super computer. You got stuck inside the Romney bubble and cannot for the life of you get outside of it. You are no free thinker and certainly not willing to look at facts as they come to you.
Most people do not follow the news, the news gets about 30% total of the viewership as say Jersey Shore and Jersey shore does not get half the population watching it. Yes, those people are uninformed, but not certainly stupid. Lazy, but not necessarily morons. Not super patriotic, but not inhuman. Not engaged, and this is the important part, but not so far disengaged that they cannot be become engaged by someone who reaches out to them because they are happy with and excited about a candidate running for president. But, by attacking them the way you are in these threads, you do make them immune to any of your potential persuasions.
They never looked, they just simply do not care. Obama, Romney, Bush, Clinton, Bush, who cares, we get the same crap anyways. Bush brought on the economic collapse that Obama benefited from, that is just simply a fact. No Maxine Water and Barney Frank a f^cking low level retard in the House, the House did not stop Bush from fixing the housing bubble, that was a political and traitorous choice Bush made on his OWN. What they are doing is avoiding politics, because they already got the point that it does not matter. But if their friend comes over and asks them to go to the polls they sometimes will go along and vote for your dude.
No, it was you and your allies of sycophantic nut cases attacking them. They did defend themselves, they distanced themselves from you.
I guess when you say the electorate failed, you might be right. You are the one so intent on getting Romney elected, it should have been you getting say 60 to 100 of your disengaged friends to the polls. Not your engaged friends, the ones that were disengaged and I know you have that many people accessible to you. You are right, Romney is not wholly to blame, it is YOU and your allies. He was your candidate, you get the stupid people to the polls, that was the job you volunteer for wanting Romney to win. Since you did not do your job, now you want to cast aspersions on someone else. Now I think I know where you need to defend Romney comes from…
Failure!

LOL
LOL that is just freaking nuts.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday…

Who do you think would have been a ‘winner’ this cycle?
Just curious.
Mimzey on November 22, 2012 at 5:42 PM

No slogan have been necessary.
The difference between the two men..a difference that seems to elude some..was and still is obvious.
Enjoy yours to! Happy Thanksgiving.
