Newest sacrifice for economically ravaged Spain: Funerals
Europe’s grinding economic crisis has left hard-hit Spaniards scrimping on death. They are defaulting on cemetery plots — and thousands face being evicted from them. They are opting for inexpensive funerals, or financing them in monthly installments. Pricey extras like grief therapy, organists to play “Ave Maria” or elaborate floral arrangements are being pruned.
But while austerity tears at the funeral industry — and some say the social fabric of the country — it has been a boon for science. Donating a body has become such a popular alternative to the cost of a funeral that some medical schools complain they do not have enough refrigerators to store all of them…
When he screened donors, Mr. Ramón said, some wanted to confirm that the university would pay for the transport of their bodies from the hospital to the laboratory.
“One woman wanted to know how much she would save, including the cost of gas,” he said.

Grief therapy? Money in the budget for that? Me thinks the only stuff being cut is the superfluous nonsense that didn’t exist before we all went spend crazy. Too bad it takes a depression to get us back to sanity.
Even Mozart got only a cheap common grave with a shovel of lime on top to stop the smell. And if it was good enough for Mozart, it’s good enough for you.

Your starting to sound like a liberal when you talk about grief therapy.
Again, I will treat and respond to your comment the same way as I do them, until you lose someone very close to you like your spouse or child, or even parent, be quite. People react much different from person to person, to loss like that.

This is just so maddening. I am sick at the thought of what liea ahead for the US.
I have an insurance plan through my husband that isn’t “supposed” to require a referral to another DR.
My 10 year old son has severe breathing difficulties and we had to jump through HOOPS to get him an appt with a specialist. This has never happened before! and just think bammycare isn;t even fully implemented yet…..

Umm… Also, the lady donating her body to science cannot pay for her child’s surgery. And here I thought that universal health insurance was awesomely awesome.
