Hamas leader: I accept a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with the right of return
“I accept a Palestinian state according [to] the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital, with the right to return,” the Hamas leader told Christine Amanpour in Cairo…
Mashaal, whose interview appeared to move his positions closer and closer toward the positions of the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority with whom Israel has conducted numerous round of negotiations, also spoke about Hamas’s use of violence and terrorism.
Asked if Hamas is willing to renounce violence, he said, “We are ready to resort to a peaceful way, purely peaceful way without blood or weapons.”

Conservatives: supporting institutional racism at home and abroad.
ernesto on November 22, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Conservatives fight institutional racism at home. We are opposed to affirmative action, minority set-asides, and idiots who say things for an inaugural benediction like, “let us pray for the day when white will embrace what is right.”
You and your racist, retard leftist cronies are despicable, abhorrent people. You are nothing but destructive to the societies unlucky enough to be burdened with your useless existences. And your lies are transparent and stupid enough to be offenses to the intellect.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on November 22, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Indeed. The Arab Spring had nothing to do with democracy.
The proof is in the pudding as the Brits say.
CorporatePiggy on November 22, 2012 at 12:24 PM
The real racists. The left divides people into little groups based on their differences and treats them accordingly yet the brainwashed liberals think the right is racist.
darwin on November 22, 2012 at 12:25 PM
This talking point about nationalism comes out of the “causes for WWI” taught in high schools, and the unending attempts of the political left to associate the socialist, progressive-influenced Nazi’s (ahem, eugenics? Or is it too soon to bring up that whole progressive fiasco?) with the political right. Somehow, nationalism is to blame for why Germany was evil, while the internationalist Soviets were great, but just didn’t execute their plan was well as they could have.

The first Palestinian to feel the power and the Hebrews was a guy named Goliath. He had this teenager, David, come at him with 5 smooth stones and one sling shot. As people stood there laughing, one of those stones found just the right mark that was not protected by a helment and the giant fell.
Egypt, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey . . . even Russia . . . can come at Israel . . . but the Jews have been able to beat the biggest and toughest with even the smallest of weapons.

“. . . as soon as Israel is annihilated.
davidk on November 22, 2012 at 12:26 PM
I can not see Israel EVER agreeing to that! And bho/un/or anyone else can not make Israel, unless they want to have a full blown war?

It wasn’t written 2,000 years ago, but that really doesn’t matter. Just about everything written has proven out to be true. You are allowed to your beliefs. Hopefully, your beliefs will change at some point.

A great point that can’t be made enough. Conservatives stand for the smallest minority there is- the individual.
bernverdnardo1 on November 22, 2012 at 12:28 PM
It’s a ridiculous circumvention of language and logic. Conservatives believe we’re all either “endowed by our creator” with certain rights, or that these are natural rights. I think we’re all in agreement that EVERYONE has the same rights, which are not bestowed upon us by benevolent governments, but are inherent to our existence as humans. In fact, the Republican party was formed, in part, to take a more “hard line” position against the expansion of slavery out of the south and in to the new states (which the Democrats were pushing for hard, and the Whigs were split on). Since then, Republicans had to fight until the 1960s for equality for all, until LBJ thought he could buy off minorities by using taxpayer money to fund get out the vote drives (aka: welfare). It was a very cynical move on his part, and sadly it has worked.
Doesn’t change the fact that conservatives don’t care about race, and democrats are obsessed with it. But because conservatives don’t think race is a big deal (or should matter any more then hair color or eye color), we’re the racists.
Got it.
Timin203 on November 22, 2012 at 12:30 PM
Minorities have everything to fear from conservatives, and this is where you truly show why.ernesto on November 22, 2012 at 12:03 PM
Conservatives look for limited government and personal responsibility.
Which minority group opposes that?
davidk on November 22, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Rest assured BHO will whine and wheedle and threaten Israel to make a deal but this deal won’t fly. It’s national suicide and even leftist Israelis take ‘never again’ seriously.
CorporatePiggy on November 22, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Meant to use blockquote but strike works for his drivel.
davidk on November 22, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Great, well, you seem like a smart person, I can only hope that your beliefs evolve as well.
. That being said, I don’t pretend to have all of the answers, it’s possible religious folk are right and I’m wrong. As long as you don’t use the government to impose your beliefs on me, I won’t impose mine on you, and we can happily co-exist.
Hopefully I don’t wake up after death getting stared down by saint peter, but who knows?
Either way, my only point was that it’s quite possible there will be a huge war in the middle east, and without american assistance, I’m not placing any much money on Israel winning.
Timin203 on November 22, 2012 at 12:33 PM
“I accept a Palestinian state according [to] the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital, with the right to return,” the Hamas leader told {idiot liberal journalist shill} …
.
Two strikes right there. I guess destruction of Israel is the third strike that would seal the deal, huh?
ExpressoBold on November 22, 2012 at 12:34 PM
It won’t fly because Hamas, one of Iran’s terrorist wings, will begin to lob rockets at Israel, and Israel will appropriately defend herself.
davidk on November 22, 2012 at 12:34 PM
“Right of return” to Israel is like “immigration reform” to the United States; It’s a death sentence.

Q: In your newest book, From Ambivalence to Betrayal. The Left, the Jews, and Israel (University of Nebraska Press, 2012), you are often severely critical of Western leftist attitudes to Israel and the so-called “Jewish Question.” How do you explain left-wing hostility?
A: The Left is suffering from acute amnesia. It has forgotten, for example, that Egyptian president Nasser and his Arab allies openly threatened to throw the Jews into the sea in 1967. To this day, Hamas, the Hezbollah and their Iranian backers, not to mention other Arab states, constantly broadcast their intention to eradicate the Zionist “cancer” from the Middle East map. So I ask people on the Left — is that a “progressive” position? Hardly. The Left has also forgotten that there was an uninterrupted Jewish presence in the Holy Land long before the birth of Islam — and despite endless harassment, along with Roman, Byzantine, Crusader, and Muslim persecutions and massacres, this Jewish settlement continued until the emergence of the modern Zionist movement.
Q: Why do you think so many leftists are pro-Islamist today?
A: The Western Left and the Islamists both share the myth that Israel is a “white,” Western, and colonial intrusion in the Middle East. They both have embraced a radically distorted view of Palestinians as defenseless “Jews,” downtrodden, and ruthlessly abused by fascist Israelis. Behind this demonic imagery there is an antisemitic view of Israel and America as twin embodiments of capitalist-imperialist evil. Needless to say, this mythology is totally disconnected from empirical reality.

Hamas is not about nationalism, but instead is about a theocratic state. Maybe you should take a look at the Hamas founding charter, or just read the Quran, Ahadith, Siras, or observe how those concepts are taught and practiced in the Islamic world today.
Moving back to the 1967 borders, or any other concession will not work, because the majority of the muslim population in Gaza, West Bank, Egypt, you name it, will have a hard time living in peace with non-Muslims or what they call infidels. Look at this Pew Poll from 2010 which asks the question should those that leave Islam (apostasy) be killed. Click here to see the poll.
(1) Egypt – 84% in favor
(2) Jordan – 86% in favor
(3) Indonesia – 30% in favor
(4) Pakistan – 76% favor
(5) Nigeria – 51% in favor
If you notice Indonesia and Nigeria have smaller numbers because the influence of Islam is less in those places, and because there are other large religions populations in those countries.
The poll also asked other questions, but the key questions are not the ones about do you like democracy, or extremism, or AQ, because they are subjective questions. What might be considered extreme in America is may not be for Muslims. The real questions are like, do you think women should be treated as equals to men under the law, do you believe in religious freedom, do you thinks gays should be killed, do you think people should be allowed to leave Islam, should Islam be the foundation of the government, etc., etc. When you ask those kind of probing questions you get the truth, which is the Islamic world and the rest of the world cannot possibly get along or have peace. How can peace be possible when people have views in which there is no middle ground. You either think those that leave Islam should be killed or you don’t. It is simply something that modern civilization cannot except as civilized in the 21st century, yet the Islamic world does think it is civilized.
Israel can never hope for a prolonged peace with the Islamic world, because of different values and ideals. Israel lives in the modern world, their Muslim neighbors do not.

No, not the smartest person in the world. Just know that much of the Bible was written prior to 2,000 years ago.
And at one time was very close to where you are today. I did a search. It lead me to where I am today. So, I do hope that you will change at some point. And St. Peter would be the last person you should fear to meet . . . that’s joke just so you don’t take that personlly.

Sure, well, remember that Iran probably has enough nuclear materials for a dirty bomb at this point. Also, Egypt, Iran, possibly Turkey (recently called Israeli govt terrorists), and very possibly a newly radicalized Syria will be involved in the war.
Egypt and especially Turkey are armed with modern US made weapons, so Israel does not have the same decisive equipment advantage they’ve had in the past.
Plus they are surrounded by quasi-civilians with rockets and heavy weaponry.
Not sure if they faced odds that great in the past. Maybe. I’m just saying theres no guarantee of an Israeli victory without staunch US support…
Don’t worry, I have thicker skin then that.
.
I’m headed out to the family event, so happy thanksgiving all!

Sorry Hamas, Israel has already exercised its preemptive right of return.
tommyboy on November 22, 2012 at 1:07 PM
Israel has a full arsenal of nukes and could take out all their aggressors in a single launch in a full scale one against all battle. They never had that kind of firepower in the past.
tommyboy on November 22, 2012 at 1:29 PM
What minorities SHOULD be fearful of is your party’s encouragement for them to abort themselves out of existence. Your party is the party of death. Abortion, euthanasia, drone attacks with huge collateral damage (death of innocent bystanders), death panels, etc. Your ignorance is what you should fear.
