This is Obama’s moment or something
I get why the president needs to stress that the wealthy will have to pay higher taxes before he can go to his base for spending cuts to restore long-term fiscal balance. But here’s what I hope we’ll see more from the president: a sense of excitement, a sense that if we can just get this grand bargain done, we can really unlock growth again, we can really, as Mohamed El-Erian, the C.E.O. of the bond giant Pimco, puts it, “restore economic dynamism, ensure financial soundness, and overcome political dysfunction,” which collectively would have a huge stimulative effect. If everyone has to take their castor oil — the rich more, the middle class some — make them feel that it will enable us all to get stronger. Make them feel that we’re embarking on a new journey — not to punish but to solve, not to sock it to the successful but to create more abundance for all. Because the right mix of tax increases, spending cuts and investment incentives will spur more start-ups, lead to more risk-taking, inspire more entrepreneurship and create more jobs. Elections are win-lose, but successful negotiations are always to some degree win-win.

Keep living in that fantasy world where Obama wants the economy to recover and grow.

Not even Elmo conveys more inappropriate feelings than Tom Friedman.

Classic liberal utopianism right there. There is no win-win, that’s just something to make us feel better when we screw over the competition.
In a negotiation the most neutral result is everyone is dissatisfied.
Most often one side is gets the better deal.
Think buying a car.

Actually, getting Obama out of the way would have done that.
As it is, people are now just trying to protect what they have. Anyone that invests money in Obama anything doesn’t deserve to have any money.

Obama does get excited when he’s spending other peoples money.

Friedman likes the idea of a grand bargain? Who knew.

No nation has ever taxed, spent, or borrowed its way to prosperity.

Holy crap, has Friedman been in a cave the past 4 years?

And I love these adorable Obama-puppies like Tom Friedman, always wagging their tails and begging for their master to take them out to play fetch. Sorry Tom, your master has no use for you now that he is reelected, and his vision is not of a prosperous and dynamic America but of a prostrate and bankrupt America.
I fail to understand how such intelligent people expect something differetn than the last four years from this President.

Gotta disagree with tom here. bho will not be happy till every business but foto’s is under some sort of big bro control? That has been the plan his first term and now he will go whole hog seeing to it that happens?
I have never in my wildest dreams would have thought my beloved Republic would have the likes of bho/team in the wh! It happens in other dictator controlled countries, but the US? A one world order is what bho/team is going for, IMO! BTW, I don’t think bho is going to be top dog if that happens, he is too flippin stupid!

Because liberalism is a mental disorder?

What a pile of horsesh!t. Barks number one goal since the very beginning has been to aggrieve the rich for some personal vendetta. The fact that the entire country is being punished is just a byproduct of that war on the one percent.

Obama is NOT for growth.
Otherwise it would have happened in the last 4 years.
Enjoy the destruction, fools.
Friedman is the hypocrite of them all.
…suffer, peasants, suffer…while he and the Obamas eat the lobsters. May China engulf them all.

Right, because having an adult discussion about budgets is out of the question. We need to have it framed for us.

I missed where Obama said that the middle class would have to pay higher taxes under his plan. Oh right, he was bullshytting us to win an election.

I think we should raise taxes on rich New Yorkers who live in mansions and write propaganda for crappy dead tree media. Hey, the Chicoms would approve!
