James Clyburn: Republicans are criticizing Susan Rice using racial “code words”
The letter, signed by 97 House Republicans, says Rice “is widely viewed as having either willfully or incompetently misled the American public in the Benghazi matter” — language Clyburn saw as racially loaded.
“You know, these are code words,” Clyburn, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, told CNN. “We heard them during the campaign, during this recent campaign we heard Sen. Sununu calling our president lazy, incompetent, these kinds of terms that those of us, especially those of us who were grown and raised in the South, we would hear these little words and phrases all of our lives and we’d get insulted by them.
“Susan Rice is as competent as anybody you will find, and just to paste that word on her causes problems with people like [incoming Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman] Marcia Fudge and certainly cause a big problem with me,” he added.

Obama is the Pied Piper of the identity politics group. A country based not on the Constitution and the rule of law, but on who you are and more specifically, what group you belong to.
The group of the day is black women. Tomorrow it will be Hispanic illegal aliens. Then later, single white women. Then, gay men. Then single mothers. Then rich white men (but not in a good way!).
Paul-Cincy on November 20, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Did he use the word ‘paste’?? Isn’t that a racial code word for whitey? Just sayin’…
SuperBunny on November 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM
I wonder if our old buddy George Lackoff came up with this talking point. Everything now is “code words.”
reppac122 on November 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM
do we get to see the code book?
ted c on November 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM
Would someone please make a list of these so called “racist code words” so that I can keep up?
JPeterman on November 20, 2012 at 11:52 AM
You know what Clyburn, call me when you find someone running around calling her a N*****. Until then STFU. As John Stewart said, the race card is all played out.

So she was lying then? Glad that’s settled.

And if you play our code words backwards, they are Satanic! And sexist!

Race monger.

Paul-Cincy on November 20, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Did you see DWS on Drudge stating that the GOP got “whiter and more male”?
Identity politics; evidently racist and sexist are OK depending on your party affiliation.

JPeterman on November 20, 2012 at 11:52 AM
It gets updated every time a member of the GOP opens their mouth; tough to keep a running total-let alone a list.

We lose the war if we don’t go after the media now.
Organize or die.
GardenGnome on November 20, 2012 at 11:58 AM
That’s the problem. It’s hard to find anyone all that competent anymore.

I wish they would publish a dictionary with all of the racial code words

The new America, where you’ll be lied to by minorities – and you’d better like it.
Rebar on November 20, 2012 at 12:03 PM
This country will never be rid of the victimhood mentality. No matter what we do, even to the point of reparations, blacks will always beat the issue of slavery over whites’ heads to generate white guilt. Tell me again how this is a racist country because of whites when we’ve had two black Secretaries of State (Powell and Condi Rice), black Attorney General (Holder), and elected a black as President (twice!).
Mitoch55 on November 20, 2012 at 12:05 PM
So, it looks like she willfully misled the American public in the Benghazi matter… Okay, then.
Fallon on November 20, 2012 at 12:06 PM
No one can ever accuse Clyburn of not dancing with who(or what) brung him. It must be a winner for him.
a capella on November 20, 2012 at 12:06 PM
James Clyburn is a child molester.
Why not?
jake-the-goose on November 20, 2012 at 12:07 PM
Clyburn doesn’t know or remember that Obama described himself as lazy during an interview. Heard it myself on the radio. Maybe it was his white half calling his black half lazy, or something.
Mr_Magoo on November 20, 2012 at 12:07 PM
No, racist language is what we heard used against Condi Rice by lefties–Aunt Jemima, house slave, etc. Not code, not dog whistles, but outright in your face racism. I’m sure Clyburn was fine with that though. Race baiters have no principles.
juliesa on November 20, 2012 at 12:08 PM
John McCain was the wrong person to go head to head with Rice. That McCain, who ranked among the lowest in his graduating class, called a Rhodes scholar with a PhD unintelligent is why it looks shady.
Had the attacks emanated from anybody other than the man that brought us Sarah Palin they could not say anything. If Rand Paul or any number of educated Senators spoke up they’d have no room to accuse racism.
John McCain is dumb as melted snow. There are at least 30 conservative senators smarter than the vaunted war-hero.
Capitalist Hog on November 20, 2012 at 12:09 PM
If they want to call “patsy” a code word, then fine, go for it.
Does Clyburn worry that Rice is being used as a scapegoat by the Obama Administration? If not, then maybe his concern isn’t very sincere.
hawksruleva on November 20, 2012 at 12:09 PM
I’m sure that “incompetent” and “clueless” are on there.
Ward Cleaver on November 20, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Absolutely despicable. So tired of these people constantly pulling out the race card. I don’t remember ANYONE doing that on our side when they attacked Powell (back when he was a republican), Condi Rice, Rod Paige, etc.
Fluke them all.
changer1701 on November 20, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Not all blacks were called those names. Only the lazy, incompetent ones.
Note how we didn’t call Condoleeza Rice lazy or incompetent? But plenty of people are calling DNI Clapper lazy or incompetent- and he’s white. The common factor seems to be the presence of laziness or incompetence.
hawksruleva on November 20, 2012 at 12:12 PM
By God, I hate these people. Not like I hate that sports team or hate when my car won’t start – hate like I wish we could launch them into space with no way back.

Someone post the picture of all those cow water buffaloes surrounding the watering hole…oops!

Azzhole. What fools reside in high positions, based on color only.
MLK died for nothing.
To expect this little of the first half black president and S. Rice is the ultimate form of racism.
Stick your racist remarks into your black azz, you stinky fool.
Schadenfreude on November 20, 2012 at 12:26 PM
My parents used to call me “lazy” all the time.
They’re white, so I guess that means they’re racist.
CurtZHP on November 20, 2012 at 12:27 PM
She lied. Oblama lied and he’s still lying. Hillary lied. THEY ALL LIE.
Now, what will the GOP in congress do about it? Nothing. Those country club jackwagons don’t give a rat’s backside either. They don’t want their country club upset during the holidays.
The lot are disgusting low lifes as far as I’m concerned. We have no lawful government anymore. We have rulers who do whatever they want.
dogsoldier on November 20, 2012 at 12:28 PM
He is.
For the new record – there are NO incompetent blacks, Latinos, Asians, American Indians and etc. By virtue of their hue they are all Einsteins.
Eat sh*t, fool in congress. You should have a show on MSNBC instead.
Schadenfreude on November 20, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Gee Mr. Clyburn you are a member of the Black Caucus, I’m a commenter here at HotAir.com, who’s the racist?
meci on November 20, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Would it be racist of me if I suggested that James Clyburn is a blithering idiot? Would it be racist of me to suggest that James Clyburn is a disgrace to his constituents and to the House of Representatives? Would it be racist of me to suggest that James Clyburn is one of the most dishonest persons to ever grace the halls of Congress?
Just checking…
Shump on November 20, 2012 at 12:36 PM
There’s no such thing as code words. It’s a phony concept used to make scurrilous claims of racism when there is absolutely no evidence to back them up.
tommyboy on November 20, 2012 at 12:36 PM
Here is a ‘code word’ for you: idiot.
That is what each and every liberal is.
Wolftech on November 20, 2012 at 12:37 PM
And everyone expects Republicans to work with people like this, those that use every opportunity they can to call us racists, homophobes, sexists, bigots, etc? Screw that.
changer1701 on November 20, 2012 at 12:39 PM

The question should be what words are not racist
It would be much smaller

It is clear-cut RACISM when you hold a person of color accountable for their lies, crimes and incompetence – after all, we all know that they can’t help themselves, Right?

HerneTheHunter on November 20, 2012 at 12:46 PM
But it’s not racial at all for 0bama to hit the campaign trail donning his fake “don’ whup me Massuh” southern black dialect and talk down to black audiences just to get their votes.
UltimateBob on November 20, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Let’s be blunt about it: we all know what the term Obama Voter means now.
Galt2009 on November 20, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Just wonderful. Four more years of this crap. And with the re-election of their god-king the lefts feels they’ve been given an entire new deck of race cards to play.
heretic on November 20, 2012 at 12:51 PM
OT: Ever see the Jerry Springer show? I caught a few brief minutes of it today while flipping through the channels.
Looking at the audience, the people on the stage, and even Jerry Springer himself, all I can say is, is it any wonder 0bama won Cincinnati?
UltimateBob on November 20, 2012 at 12:56 PM
I’d hope that would be beneath most of us HotGas posters. And he’s the freakin’ President! Who, by the way, says if he had a son, he’d look like Trayvon Martin. Who said the white cop who arrested Henry Louis Gates “acted stupidly”. Who in his speech on race paints his white grandmother as some kind of bigot. Will Obama go lower in his next 4 years? He’s SO racially divisive, which incidentally is the most painful and incendiary division in the country. He’s happy to scratch that wound.
