“Christie allowed Obama to be president, not a politician”
The tensions followed Mr. Christie to the annual meeting of the Republican Governors Association in Las Vegas last week. At a gathering where he had expected to be celebrated, Mr. Christie was repeatedly reminded of how deeply he had offended fellow Republicans.
“I will not apologize for doing my job,” he emphatically told one of them in a hotel hallway at the ornate Wynn Resort…
During a lengthy autopsy of their campaign, Mr. Romney’s political advisers pored over data showing that an unusually large number of voters who remained undecided until the end of the campaign backed Mr. Obama. Many of them cited the storm as a major factor in their decision, according to a person involved in the discussion.
“Christie,” a Romney adviser said, “allowed Obama to be president, not a politician.”…
“A lot of politicians look out for themselves,” said Mr. Gross, the Republican from Iowa. “They just usually camouflage it better.”

Got it?

Bullshiite. Christie all but offered to become a blood brother to the Dog Eater simply for showing up and taking a one-block tour of the damaged areas.
Now 3 weeks later Bark is in “Myanmar”, Butter Pants is appearing on SNL, and American citizens in the storm areas are living worse than people in Bangladesh.

Since when is his job prancing on the beach with Obama in a photo op?

I still cannot believe CRISTie didn’t realize ahead of time how damaging that public embrace(both figuratively and literally) of Obama would be to his future electoral prospects if Romney went on to lose.

There’s a reason NJ Conservatives call him “Governor Zeppelin”.
kingsjester on November 20, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Christie’s “job” was to make sure his state was prepared for the storm and it’s aftermath. It did not entail practically making out with Obama on national TV, slobbering all over him for making some calls and walking a few blocks around the neighborhood.
And the sad thing is, it won’t mean a lick next fall when Christie is up against Booker. The Dems will still trash him as some radical right-winger, the media will promote Booker to no end…his make-out sessions with O haven’t advanced his political career any and in fact cost him a lot of support on this side. Heckuva job, guv.
changer1701 on November 20, 2012 at 9:34 AM
I just think it’s a little weird when Christie calls obama his “yummy little tootsie roll boy” – there’s something not quite right about that.

Christie was actually trying to get Barky to nationalize Hostess Foods and deliver 1000 tons of Emergency Twinkies to the governor’s residence.
CorporatePiggy on November 20, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Offended? Offended is the least of it. Christie may well have swung the election.
petefrt on November 20, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Since when does a president need a state governor’s permission to act like a president?
What a stupid premise.
dczombie on November 20, 2012 at 9:44 AM
I thought Akin did that. And Mourdock. And according to one of the more sycophantic ‘bots here, Palin. And the “drawn out” primary process. And TruCons staying home.
Someday someone might just blame it on Romney.
ddrintn on November 20, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Oh give it rest. If Christie made nice to Obama, and Christie was also a Romney backer, and Romney himself said Obama was a nice man, how is it all Christie’s fault? Besides which, swing state voters who aren’t unimpressed with Obama despite four years of photo ops aren’t going to slobber over him just for showing up for one more, even if a blue state politician dutifully behaves like a prop.
It’s at least as plausible that Team Romney simply confused an unexpectedly favorable debate critique by viewers with a decisive shift in his favor, all the while refusing to believe any of the numerous polls showing Obama still ahead.
I won’t waste any more sympathy on Christie, but Romney got fewer votes than McCain for a real reason, not a whiny made up one.

I don’t think Christie, or any other single factor cost Romney the election, but the whole episode certainly doesn’t give me confidence in Christie’s political instincts.
He won’t be successful as a national candidate.

xblade on November 20, 2012 at 10:03 AM
Christie may have destroyed his chances nationally, because he’d never get out of a GOP primary now. But he’s still very popular in Blue NJ, where his excessive praise of Obama isn’t a turnoff to voters.
There are two issues at work here. Christie has done an exemplary job regarding hurricane prep and recovery—far better than what we’ve seen on the other side of the river. But he also helped get Obama reelected, and for that, Christie deserves every shred of criticism.

You know what’s delicious about this? So many geniuses were telling us that Mitt had better stay away from the “toxic” TP and the “toxic” Palin, and yet now this moderate savior from NJ is about to be scapegoated. You couldn’t make this up.
ddrintn on November 20, 2012 at 10:07 AM
Since when has Obama ever acted like a President? Seriously. Not once. He is a disgrace.
Right Mover on November 20, 2012 at 10:08 AM
Really? How is it ironic, lol? Where haven’t I blamed Palin where she deserves blame, lol?
ddrintn on November 20, 2012 at 10:09 AM
It’s called voter fraud, but, I know, anybody who suggests that gets grouped reflexively with the birfers.
Right Mover on November 20, 2012 at 10:10 AM
Ditto for the top of the GOP ticket.
Look, Romney was supposed to have been so strong, and now we’re supposed to believe that his whole campaign was so fragile that a butterfly’s fart in Argentina could disrupt the whole thing. LOL

Christie is turning into Jackie Gleason. He’s lost NJ unless he is running as a Democrat. I’m here in NJ and still can’t figure out how Obama “got it done”.

He would be kryptonite in many heartland states and set a new record for Republican leaning voters to stay home or even vote for the opposition.

@ctmom: He “got it done” because every Republican but Miss Cupp was taking a bubble bath.

Christie did his Linda lovelace impersonation.
I was in Louisiana when Gov Blanco played politics and told Bush to get bent on preplacing assets for katrina.

We really have bigger things to worry about than Christie. No pun intended.

I don’t see how that matters. Willard lost dude. He lost decisively too in the electoral college where it counts.
HondaV65 on November 20, 2012 at 11:18 AM
Christie is a big, fat-assed idiot. I hope no one suggests him for a POTUS nomination or VP slot. That dude is about two twinkies away from a major cardiopulmonary meltdown.
He is really such a disgustingly fat man that there’s no way he’s going to live into old age at the rate he’s going. And hell, I don’t think he intends to change his gluttonous habits because he routinely jokes about his wrecking ball shaped body. It doesn’t bother him so he’s unlikely to change.
I do find it ironic that the guy that came out swinging for Mittens and acted as surrogate attack dog on Willy’s opponents ended up – in the very end – helping to hand the Presidency back to Ogabe.

Why are people mad at Christie? Did he eat all the donuts at the RGA meeting?
Sarc off… It’s completely disingenuous for Christie to be all I didn’t know what would happen. He’s just sorry he got caught.
Illinidiva on November 20, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Gosh. He only had 2 million residents without power, thousands homeless, billions in property damage, gigantic tourist attarctuions destroyed. How dare he not think about Mitt Romney possibly losing the election and himself being blamed for it.
Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Christie was drinking the same Kool-Aid about skewed polls that we were, and though Romney was going to win? What was he supposed to do, tell the President to get lost and not come to see the damage?
rockmom on November 20, 2012 at 11:56 AM
And maybe it also occurred to Christie that this President is a vindictive a-hole, and would still be President until January 20, 2013 regardless, and if he dissed him he might just send all the FEMA aid and people to New York and Gov. Cuomo, and bypass New Jersey.
And you all know that’s exactly what would have happened. Obama doesn’t give a damn about white people with second homes on the Jersey Shore.
rockmom on November 20, 2012 at 11:59 AM
I don’t know if Christie helped to hand the Presidency back to Obama, but you definitely did. You have been slobbering all over him for half a year, you told us that you sent him your money and that you voted for him.
You think people are going to forget that, just because you are now back to calling him “Ogabe”?
Gelsomina on November 20, 2012 at 12:05 PM
I’m sure you saw the photo with him and Obama on the tarmac. He’s looking up to Obama as if he would worship him. It was one thing to help his state, be he didn’t have to give up his self-respect.
