Carl Levin: Let’s give Obama some credit for Israel’s Iron Dome system
“The president and Congress here are entitled to, I believe, a lot of credit for providing that system to Israel,” said Levin, D-Mich., on ABC’s This Week. “It’s a very effective system.”
President Obama secured $70 million for the Iron Dome program earlier this year, which was part of a bill he signed that expanded military cooperation between the U.S. and Israel.

As if Israel who designed it and put it into motion would not have come up with 70 million lousy dollars to do so. It was more the point, the United States wanted some of the technology Israel was creating for it that caused them to invest in the system to get access to the tech.

Let’s give Obama some credit for the Fast and Furious guns that killed Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata

Obama “gives” Israel $70M for defense
Then gives $1B to Hamas for “education”.
Thats called “leveling the playing field” in some quarters.
BobMbx on November 18, 2012 at 4:51 PM
Might have something to do with the US not wanting Israel to go into Gaza again.

Why don’t we have an Iron Dome for the US?
Maybe we should give credit to Reagan for starting all of this.

Obama provided? Or did he acquiesce to it? Did the administration put it in the bill or did they allow it in return for something they really wanted? I’m thinking Poland might have something to say about Obama’s love of missile defense systems.

IIRC, doesn’t the US ‘give’ egypt over a billion a year? Doesn’t the US ‘give’ every other rop type country on the planet billions upon billions to see to it the have funds to sling rockets at Israel?
I will not give bho any credit for this! And I will not give hill any credit either. That old harpy slings money out like it is halloween candy to counties!

This morning when I read about the White House in 2011 requesting over $205,000,000 for “production and deployment of additional Iron Dome batteries”–obviously not Duracel–from Congress (who approved 410-4), I wondered if we American taxpayers even got a thank-you note.

So, he didn’t veto something that was part of a larger bill.
How about we give credit to the members of congress who put it in the bill?

Helping to fund the Iron Dome is typical of US policy. The Iron Dome is a defensive weapon. It’s part of containing the US policy to contain Israel. Next time around, Israel will be criticized for even responding when the Iron Dome can take out most rockets. This promotes the status quo, meaning the unsustainable borders + the 4 state solution (Israel, Gaza, West Bank, East Bank [Jordan]). Obama has no problem funding this because it will render all Israeli attempts at offense “unnecessary”.

I give Hussein some credit for the fact the Iron Dome will be used a lot in the near future.

I will give Ronald Reagan the credit. I remember when he announced that we would proceed with constructing a missile defense system. Democrats and other leftists just laughed and said that it could not be done.

Gooolly, you would think that $70 mil earlier this year got the whole program going from the quote above. … and of course National Journal can’t be bothered to provide any background here. Oh no, don’t want to detract from Lord Obama’s aura of beneficence.
See, thing is, the Iron Dome program began shortly after the 2006 Israeli action with Hezbollah. The US helped in development with Rafael. So, let’s see, who was president in 2006? Obama? Nope, that would have been 2009. Hmm, it will come to me in a second. Oh! Yeah! It was Buuuush. Why, how can that be, Levin not giving Bush any credit on a $200M+ development program that Levin is proudly pointing to Obama for supporting $70M of? Why, that would almost be like being dishonest and political.
AZfederalist on November 18, 2012 at 6:25 PM
Actually, I get the impression that the US funds were in part to give the US access to the product. The Israelis have a number of missile technologies that the US doesn’t (mostly because the equivalent US programs were canceled).
Count to 10 on November 18, 2012 at 6:30 PM
It was a mutually beneficial development program. Fact is, it started in 2006, the US kicked in $200M and the National Journal with Levin sees fit only to give Obama credit for the whole thing (and Congress of course)
AZfederalist on November 18, 2012 at 6:48 PM
Let’s give credit to Obama for denying the Libyan consulate the increased security they begged for all year long and let’s give Obama credit for the needless death of Ambassador Stevens while we’re doling out credit.
