Pelosi: No deal without tax hikes on the wealthy
In an interview that will air in its entirety on Sunday’s “This Week,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi gave ABC’s Martha Raddatz a firm “no” when asked if a deal to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff” could exclude tax rate hikes on the wealthy. Pelosi, D-Calif., said that simply closing loopholes and capping tax deductions for the wealthy would not suffice.
“Well, no… just to close loopholes is far too little money,” Pelosi said. “If it’s going to bring in revenue, the president has been very clear that the higher income people have to pay their fair share.” …
“The spirit at the table was one of everybody wants to make the best effort to get this done. Hopefully that is possible; hopefully it is possible by the middle of December so the confidence of the markets and most importantly the confidence of the consumers returns to infuse our economy with demand, which creates jobs,” Pelosi said.

I am all for taxing the rich such as Pelosi and her family.
Our Congress has a lust for ever more money for more spending is endless. They ignore the truth that that such taxing will kill the economy and really reduce tax revenue.

Countdown to Boehner caving.

Show us where the cuts will be made. Exactly what will be cut, Nancy, Harry and Barry.
Let the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone and usher in a new day of prosperity with the Obama/Reid/Pelosi tax hikes.

Nope, jump off the cliff. DO IT. If the poor starvelings are worth what liberal bobos think of as their one latte a week in extra taxes, surely they are worth the bobos’ jobs, second homes, and economic ruination. It just shows the world how much you care, don’t you know. Bob Bobo in Taxachusetts, along with the Kennedies, both voted for Fauxcahontas and 0bama because each thinks they will dodge the taxman and stick the other one with the bill. Make them both pay.

Even if it means that people who own tuna canneries in American Samoa have to pay minimum wage?

Exactly! Republicans will find some way to screw this up so that Democrats get everything they want and the the media will then blame the Republican Axis of Evil (Boehner, Cantor and McConnell) for higher taxes, engendering more hate for the Republican Party. McCain will want to reach across the aisle to make sure Kerry gets State to make up for higher taxes on rich folks who already use every tax dodge in the books to pay less and less on “money” older than a year.
.
Since Republicans and the media put Ø back in office, I’m thinking of becoming a registered Democrat. I can get more done fouling up their local party operations than I ever could as an outsider plus, what I’ve seen of Democrats and liberals, they are all stupid anyway. It’s easy to keep them in line by threats and intimidation (No free stuff for you!)
.
I sure don’t trust the Republicans to fight back unfairly so they win on important issues and elections.

The $800 billon stimulus is now baked into every budget so why can’t we demand $800 billion in cuts as a starting point? I never hear the GOP bring thus up?
And if I hear another Democrat say that the “rich need to pay their fair share” when everyone knows half the country pays ZERO income taxes I’m going to punch out the next Lib I run across.

I haven’t heard anything more about “First we create a million manufacturing jobs, good-paying jobs, here in America, so we can rebuild the middle class from the middle out . Have you?

Ummm…last I heard, Nancy Pelosi was the MINORITY Leader. Barring some massive folds by Republicans (which is entirely possible), I don’t think the House needs her or her caucus to approve of the deal.

I remember Obama bringing it up in 08..another of his lies was that he wouldn’t agree to any new spending without an equal amount being cut somewhere else.
He is never held to live up to his own bullshlt…and no one does much beyond throwing roses at his feet and blink their eyes.
Mimzey on November 17, 2012 at 9:24 AM
So, the Dems are going to petulantly insist on reducing revenue by raising the rates. The mind boggles.

Raising the question, of course, that if Congresswoman Pelosi thinks high taxes on the rich is the key to fiscal solvency, how does she explain the sorry condition of her own state’s finances?
radjah shelduck on November 17, 2012 at 9:44 AM
This would be true if there was a majority LEADER.
Dingbat63 on November 17, 2012 at 9:52 AM
If the R’s had guts the bill would tax the top bracket at twice what Obama wants and cut spending to GWB’s last budget levels. Each day it doesn’t pass you include the next tax bracket on tax increases and cuts to the previous GWB’s budget. Up the pain on the Dems daily. They can take it or go over the cliff.

With no deal in place the Bush tax cuts expire and everyone’s taxes goes up. Boehner has no leverage over the Senate or the President to renew these cuts.
He takes the senate deal, or he takes the credit for a tax hike on the middle class.
There is no way Boehner can raise enough votes to approve the Senate deal without Nancy. I doubt he could get 150 votes otherwise.
