Amnesty won’t magically make Latinos more Republican
A better question: Is this finding religion or falling for an old Beltway superstition? The boosters of amnesty in exchange for the elusive Hispanic vote may be the witch doctors of American politics. …
But caving on bad legislation — or writing watered-down Republican alternatives — to address this unfortunate misconception is the easy way out.
For starters, immigration is far from the Republicans’ only problem with Hispanic voters. Proposition 187, California’s notorious 1994 anti-illegal immigration ballot initiative that supposedly lost Latinos for the GOP forever, received a higher percentage of the Hispanic vote than many Republican candidates.
Hispanics have a high labor force participation rate, but are nevertheless disproportionately poor. In 2011, more than 40 percent of Hispanics reported that they lacked health insurance, which makes Obamacare potentially appealing. …

Imbuing within them a sense of the rule of law and the value of doing so will turn them into staunch conservatives.
Thats quite a bit harder than offering welfare, shelter, amnesty, etc., but in the long run, its much more valuable.
What does the christian religion say? “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, feed him forever”
This is the message the GOP needs to pummel immigrants with.
“You’re welcome, but you gotta row too”.

I’ve noticed more and more of the punditry, who are usually RINOs, are finally realizing that amnesty doesn’t equal more hispanic votes, something that the conservative electorate has always known. And perhaps they’re realizing that not only will the GOP not win over more hispanics, but they’ll lose whatever of the base is left. Rush and Coulter have understood this obvious fact, but even the Rich Lowrys of world are now getting it.

Amnesty will definitely piss off the millions of LEGAL immigrants that have spent a lot of time and money following the law.
RoadRunner on November 17, 2012 at 6:20 PM
NO stinken kidding! If those do or do not get amnesty the bottom line is all the ‘free stuff’ the d’s(aka bho) will give!
BTW, those coming from mexico, how about the US deals with YOU as your country deals with anyone who come into their country? No one allowed to vote, no one allowed to own land, etc etc.? And anyone from the US has money, but those coming here from mexico don’t and want ‘free stuff’! And to boot, those coming to OUR nation seems not to want to speak OUR laungage, honor OUR flag, and just seems a pain in the rear?
Now I should add, this is NOT ALL, but the vast vast majority. If I moved to mexico, I would learn the lauguage. And that goes for any nation I moved to.

It’ll also piss of millions of the conservative base that believe in the rule of law. Hmm, get 5 extra votes from Hispanics or lose millions from your own party? Unfortunately, the Boners and Mushmouth McConnells of the world can’t seem to grasp that concept. Neither can the panderer in sheep’s clothing (aka Rubio).

Limbaugh mentioned this earlier this week; after Reagan signed his own Amnesty plan, his successor actually lost Latino votes!

The Democrats promised they would do amnesty so you wouldn’t want to make them break their promise, would you?
The Democrats are in a position where they would have to agree to any demand made by Republicans to get their amnesty or they would have to explain why they lied. They have to agree to end dual citizenship for all current and future duals. They have to agree to one or more amendments to the Constitution that give states the right to protect their demographics whereby state citizenship trumps US citizenship. No new immigration while anyone is unemployed. You keep piling on the demands until Democrats are forced to break their promise to hispanics.
No congressional district or state that is majority white will vote for the Democrat candidate so you guarantee a Republican majority in both houses in 2014. Even white liberals know you can’t force a demographic change on a country, and they will agree with Republican measures to protect the demographics. You just got to get over this irrational fear of being called a racist when you are taking common sense positions to protect what every other nation on earth would protect. The UN certainly can’t object. They have UN laws against demographic upheavals.

Hispanics are voting for socialist policies now. They vote the same way in their countries of origin.
The most you could ever hope to get from pandering is a one time vote for amnesty and then they will continue to vote for what they believe. The Democrats would probably out-pander the GOP so even that is not likely.
Does the GOP really think they will earn the eternal gratitude of the Hispanic voters with amnesty?
Democrats founded the Ku Klux Klan.
Democrats passed the Jim Crow Laws.
Democrats supported segregation.
Democrats opposed civil rights.
Republicans championed civil rights.
Republicans freed the slaves.
Republicans founded the NAACP.
Blacks vote overwhelmingly for Democrats.

The conservatives belief in the myth of “more immigration is good”, rivals the liberal belief that you can “tax and spend your way to prosperity” – and just as wrong.

Excellent article. The comments section is very informative as well (which is a pleasant surprise). Republicans WILL NOT gain the Hispanic vote by caving on amnesty. As I’ve said before, this is not about amnesty. It is about the cultural mindset of Hispanics. As the article points out, even republican Hispanics are to the left of democrats when it comes to issues of government provided services.

Anything unearned automatically works against Republicans.
I am fine with the idea of allowing illegals who join the military and fight in a war a path to citizenship, that would be earned.
I am not fine with them doing so in times of peace. That would be unearned.
Outside of that, any illegal in America should be biometrically identified, and they and their children barred from ever becoming American citizens.
astonerii on November 17, 2012 at 7:02 PM
Amnesty won’t magically make Latinos more Republican and neither will standing in line and promises on top of promised and pandering for years on end will, not make them Democrats either.
Define what is amnesty? Is it still amnesty when they have to pay a fine. see a judge and file paperwork. Then wait somewhere on a form of probation for their turn to be legal. Any problems when they are on “immigration probation” they are out for years and/or more fines.
Or is amnesty only show up at the office and get a citizenship card, and an EBT card with no punishment of any kind. There are a lot of stuff that can happen over wide open door and door with some locks.
tjexcite on November 17, 2012 at 7:34 PM
Do you really think 20 million illegals are going to file paperwork, pay fines and see a judge? No. And what happens when they don’t? Nothing, because, according to the apologists, we don’t have the resources to find all these people, not to mention Hispanics apparently don’t like it when we enforce the law. In other words, they get to remain here penalty free, and get to work while milking the system of every government program they can. So yeah, that would be amnesty too. And we still wouldn’t get their vote. We would get millions more pouring across the border in anticipation of the next amnesty though.
xblade on November 17, 2012 at 7:50 PM
FTFY.
We are at a point where law enforcement is so overwhelmed that conservatives are actively considering whether to surrender to people selling harmful addictive drugs to (their) underage children on the street corner.
Where do you possibly think you’ll find the legal power, the manpower, and the firepower to deal with tens of millions of wetbacks?
