Why Rubio is a frontrunner
Of course, citing the fact that Obama had even less experience will get Rubio nowhere. But the truth about Obama is that he would very likely have never become president had he spent a decade or two in the U.S. senate — taking too many controversial votes — and becoming an establishment creature of Washington.
Should he run in 2016, Rubio would have more DC experience than Obama, but probably not so much as to turn him into a Bob Dole, John McCain, or a John Kerry. …
Rubio has more star power than any of the likely GOP candidates, and — like it, or not — that matters. Rubio helps fix the problem with young voters. He helps fix the problem with college-educated voters. He would be equally as successful on “Meet the Press” as on MTV or “The View.”

Great – wonderful man – with not one ounce of EXECUTIVE experience.
Again great guy – zero resume.
jake-the-goose on November 16, 2012 at 8:05 AM
So, he has less trouble with the stupid vote and better on “The View”. Sweet! I don’t suppose you need any more in a President these days, eh?
littleguy on November 16, 2012 at 8:13 AM
Ummm.. He’s Latino-y is why he is the frontrunner. The points made above about being younger and pop culture savvy applies to the entire 2016 field.
Illinidiva on November 16, 2012 at 8:18 AM
He’s the front runner because he’s brown, that’s the GOP thinking. Other than that Rubio is just another big government neocon. Are you aware he voted for the NDAA? He voted to give the executive branch the ability to indefinitely detain US citizens on us soil and give them no rights to due process. The GOP will continue their decline until the embrace federalism, liberty and small government.

Token Latino.
Next.

Geese and beasts love executive experience, however The Guy with a fabulous executive resume was just rejected. And not just by the left.
It is way too early to be dealing with this issue. Let’s concentrate on attacking Obama and impeaching him if Petraeus tells the truth.
Basilsbest on November 16, 2012 at 8:21 AM
I like him a great deal but following the Obama model of being a minority and a senator isn’t very reassuring. We are assuming that Obama is a winner because of his “victory” last week. He is a loser and that will bear itself out over the next four years.
thebrokenrattle on November 16, 2012 at 8:22 AM
And since the sheeple continue to reject that en masse bcs they’ve been indoctrinated to believe socialism aka communism is a good thing, America will continue her slow decline into obscurity.
I weep for what America has become.
Badger40 on November 16, 2012 at 8:23 AM
The last time we won, we ran as neocons. Just sayin’
thebrokenrattle on November 16, 2012 at 8:29 AM
You are most likely right. Even in this website I read comments from supposed “conservatives” that argue against states rights, such as regarding pot and gay marriage. To be, I don’t support either, but believe that it’s not the feudal governments place, leave it up to the states. Many faux conservatives love big powerful government that tells others how to live their lives or that bombs other people.

Front runner?
Front runner for what….?
Maybe Matt hasn’t noticed but we are still in Obama’s first term.
Any talk of what will happen in four years is just ridiculous speculation.
Someone needs to tell Matt to stop trolling on his readers.
It’s lame.
NeoKong on November 16, 2012 at 8:35 AM
And what did that gives us? $8 trillion in debt, and increase in the size of government, No Child Left Behind, more entitlements, the Patriot Act and the TSA able to grab your child’s private parts without probable cause or reasonable suspicion. G W Bush was nothing but a big government statist.
MoreLiberty on November 16, 2012 at 8:36 AM
Now tell me what you think of Obama.
thebrokenrattle on November 16, 2012 at 8:38 AM
I agree wholeheartedly.
But your last 3 words are strange. Are you saying the federal govt does not have the right to have a foreign presence in the world? Does not have the right to maintain the safety of the US & it citizens by engaging in scuffles, wars, etc?
Bcs I do. It is one of the powers the Fed needs to do.
He did have a lot of help from Democrats in Congress.
It is decades of progressive thought & action from Teddy R. to now that have gotten us into this mess.
Badger40 on November 16, 2012 at 8:44 AM
I hate Obama as well. He has done nothing but continue the horrible actions of a powerful central government. Just because some politician has an (R) next to their name means nothing to me. I look at their actions. Just because some republican drags us nor debt doesn’t make it good debt. Just because a republican takes some of our rights away doesn’t make it any better.
MoreLiberty on November 16, 2012 at 8:45 AM
You spent more words excoriating Bush than Obama. That says something.
thebrokenrattle on November 16, 2012 at 8:47 AM
Yeah but can he beat the Marxist who will after the constitution is changed be running for a third term?
bgibbs1000 on November 16, 2012 at 8:48 AM
There should BE no frontrunner right now. One of the reasons Romney lost was because 0bama had five years to figure out how to beat him. The other big reason was because Romney was where the base was at—-in 2008. Lots of stuff happened between then and now.
0bama could get his team working on countering Romney from the moment he hit the White House with the astounding approval ratings and full bank of political capital to do what his consultants said would best undercut Romney. HINT: This is why 0bamacare was so closely mimicking Romneycare. Once Romney was nominated, I was as hopeful as anyone here that Romney would yet counter this, and I was wrong.
Without a clear frontrunner, 0bama can’t help set the pick for his successor until his political and campaign capital are far too spent to be of any use. We can also guarantee the next frontrunner, as determined in late 2015 or early 2016, is sympatico with the GOP base circa 2016, not 2012.

I believe that the federal government has a moral and legal obligation to defend the United States. Now – after 10 years in the Marine Corps and 3 tours in the middle-east – I can say that we were not fighting for the Bill of Rights, apple pie or mom while trying to teach 8 th century tribes about democracy via a gun or build schools they want nothing to do with. We aren’t defending the USA by taking money from the middle class and handing it over the Egypt or Pakistan, or developing a missile shield that protects Europe. We aren’t defending our home land by guarding South Korea while they take our jobs.
MoreLiberty on November 16, 2012 at 8:51 AM
That’s because as a conservative I have more ability to change the conservative candidate compared to the liberal. I never voted for Obama. When I was a blind partisan I voted for Bush.
MoreLiberty on November 16, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Who did you want to win the GOP primary this year? Who do you think could have won?
thebrokenrattle on November 16, 2012 at 8:57 AM
Will the bush people, Rubio, rove etc. just go away. They cost us enough election.
These planted stories one week after they cost us the last election are sickening.
God, you establishment sewer rats think we flyover people are morons! We don’t need you azzwipes to pick our leaders.
Danielvito on November 16, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I dont think he will run in ’16. His Senate seat is at stake in that year and I dont think he would run on a ticket without his seat to fall back on.
Valkyriepundit on November 16, 2012 at 9:10 AM
a “white-hispanic” Bush family puppet – the next best thing to JEB2016!
OH BOY
Jeddite on November 16, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Hmmm, I don’t know — that Rand Paul feller sounds pretty good, too. You might be able to get the youth vote and the I-hate-neocons vote with Rand. He’s also from Kentucky which is an added bonus (white working class and all of that jazz.)
I like Rubio and he gave a good speech at the convention. Where did I hear that before about giving a good speech at the convention? The pundits seem to like him and say he represents the future. Where did I hear about pundits liking a particular candidate before? He’s young, dynamic, and well-spoken — some, like Joe Biden, would say “clean and articulate”. I think Harry Reid would allude to certain dialects being missing.
We’ll have to wait and see. Let Barry run the country further into the ground first before we start crowning a Bush Family-approved savior.
Punchenko on November 16, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Oh, oh! How about George P. Bush!? He’s running for dog catcher or something in Texas and should be ready by 2016. George is stupid, he’s stupid, his skin tone is correct, he’s stupid, and rich, and a Bush. Did I mention the man is stupid and rich?
He’s perfect! He’s absolutely perfect!
Three cheers for the Boosh Dynasty! They are America’s very own Medici Family… only stupid, really, really stupid.
Punchenko on November 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Rubio is a frontrunner because the GOP still thinks that what the Marxists want is empty symbolic pandering.
joe_doufu on November 16, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Yep.. Rubio will be the Bushies approved candidate. Guy figured out how to get the best patrons in the party.
Illinidiva on November 16, 2012 at 10:45 AM
I think Jeb Bush would be that.

Let a TRUE Conservative lead the party.

There is no frontrunner for 2016. We don’t know if there will be free elections or a free country in 2016. I fear the next four years will be pure hell to get through, and whoever the GOP candidate is will be depicted, falsely but successfully, as evil/rich/heartless/stupid/racist/sexist/gaffe-prone.
Right Mover on November 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM
Obama won’t care about his successor or his party anymore than he cares about our country. He will always be a narcissist, and will never care about such things.
Right Mover on November 16, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Yawn. The desperate hunt for a not white guy.
Think outside of the box for once.
Moesart on November 16, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Actually, if that’s the direction the GOP insists on going, I’d much prefer Bobby Jindal. Actually, in any event, I’d prefer Jindal.
Right Mover on November 16, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Problem 1. He speaks Cuban, not Mexican
Problem 2. Mexicans perceive that Cuban immigration had citizenship attached as a special right
Rubio is certainly not as ignorant as those pushing him, or he wouldn’t have already done his Dream-acter speech. Rubio doesn’t have a ‘white’ problem. He has a ‘Cuban’ problem that will be exploited if he runs. The real drubbing will be in Spanish
To gain the Mexican crowd, he has to prove brotherhood by joining their cause. If there was a clue that Rubio would be the candidate, the DEMs will be dusting off their Mexicans, ready to debate on Univision in competing dialects
IMHO at this stage, Jindal has a better chance, if he can get out of the box that held Romney. For Rubio to win in four years, he has to morph now yet remain palatable to conservatives
It would also help to allow an honest primary campaign. In the last two presidentials, it was obvious whom the party was going to eliminate
If they let the primary contenders fail naturally instead of executing them, the voter might be able to figure out who is for them, and who is against them. Last time, Ron Paul was in the race only to keep others from winning. He did a good job of that, and in return was softballed by the RINOs. This might be the only accomplishment he did not list in his farewell speech. In helping Romney win, he hurt Romney
