White House weighing plan to replace sequester with smaller spending cuts
White House officials are in advanced internal discussions about a plan to replace the sweeping spending cuts set to begin in January with a smaller, separate package of targeted spending cuts and tax increases, people familiar with the planning said…
The plan that has been discussed by White House officials is similar in many ways to what lawmakers have discussed. It would terminate the spending cuts for a period of six to 12 months, and replace the cuts with more targeted reductions and revenue increases. House Republicans have proposed a similar model, though they have called for terminating the cuts to defense programs only and haven’t accepted a deal to include tax increases as part of any package.
If left unaddressed, the sequester would cut military spending by $54.7 billion in the first nine months of 2013, reducing many Pentagon programs by about 10%. Other domestic programs, such as those relating to education and housing, would also see cuts. Social Security and Medicare benefits would not be hit, with the exception of a 2% cut in payments to Medicare providers.

it was comical listing to the house dems deriding how horrible the across the board .2% spending cut would mean.. said it is taking a chainsaw to the budget…
If I have a $10,000 monthly budget, and I’m forced to reduce it by .2%, I’m sure I can figure out how to make it without that $20.
Why is the GOP not plastering examples like this out there.. they need to ridicule and make the dems a complete and utter laughing stock.

To hear these cuts in spending the sequester would make in detail I’m wondering why they just don’t go ahead with the sequester.
They are only going to stop the cuts for 6-12 months? Why? So Obama can demagogue on this again in a year?

These aren’t even cuts, these are simply reductions in increased spending. That’s how crazy this whole thing is, and more proof that the establishment “conservatives” are almost as horrible as the dims. Our government is a freaking monolithic beast and it will do nothing but increase in size and power until it collapses upon its own weight, or is physically taken out – or a combination of the two.

Maybe because they’re part of the graft.

What we need is a military coup. A military chicken coup, that is. And lock all the Dems inside it.

If Washington can’t handle these miniscule cuts, how is anyone to expect they can ever deal with actually balancing the annual budget? The sequestration cuts are a drop in the bucket of the actual cuts we ultimately need, and yet our politicians on both sides of the aisle don’t even have the testicular fortitude for these tiny cuts.
We are like a contestant on “The Biggest Loser”. We’ve gorged ourselves on government spending until we are too fat to get out of the house, and now we have to go on a massive diet and exercise binge to fix it. Guess what… it’s going to take some pain to get it done along with some serious blood, sweat, and tears.
