Video: “I’m pretty certain that Mitt Romney french-kissed Obama”
During a speech at the Federalist society today, Senator-Elect Ted Cruz R-Texas explained that it was important for conservatives to campaign on big ideas.
Cruz cited Mitt Romney’s first debate against President Obama as an example, calling it “the one time we actually contested ideas.”
Cruz criticized the “mandarins” in politics who didn’t want Republicans to “rock the boat” or “show any contrast.”
“So by the third debate, I’m pretty certain that Mitt Romney french-kissed Obama,” Cruz said as the crowd laughed and applauded.

Obama is the child of Mussolini and Lenin.
What would the child of Obama and Romney be like?
Schadenfreude on November 16, 2012 at 11:08 PM
Simple fact is, if people are given the choice between a liberal and a liberal-lite, they’re going to get the real thing.
Give them the choice between a real conservative and a liberal – then things get interesting.

No Ted, that was Christie. Romney just didn’t have his Patriot missile shield up.
arnold ziffel on November 16, 2012 at 11:16 PM
I just lost some respect for Ted Cruz. Unwarranted dig, and classless.
Mitsouko on November 16, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Well, that’s a word picture I could do without. But yup, pretty much sums up what Romney did in debate 3.
conservative pilgrim on November 16, 2012 at 11:17 PM
I just want to stop talking about Mitt Romney. It’s over. There are battles to be fought.

A little early to be getting so cocky Mr.Cruz. What a classless remark.

Now, after having watched the video, I am proud to have voted for “Rino Squish” David Dewhurst in both the primary and the runoff elections hyar in Texas.

He also bankrupted Hostess. The prog commenters at CBS told me so.

Losers deserve to be mocked. Otherwise, every guy in the country club will run a half-hearted campaign for President and suffer no consequences.
We need a winner.
faraway on November 16, 2012 at 11:36 PM
LOL!
Bluntly put, sir.
portlandon on November 16, 2012 at 11:36 PM
See, you say things like this after you get elected, folks. Not before.
KingGold on November 16, 2012 at 11:44 PM
Garbage. Romney lost the election, but he is not a loser.
Anyone who puts down someone else to make themselves look good by comparison is a jerk. And right now, Ted Cruz fits that description.
Mitsouko on November 16, 2012 at 11:48 PM
Would that also include Mitt’s trashing vast swaths of the electorate as having been bought and paid for by Obama?
I would think more people would be happy about this state of affairs. In the exact opposite of 2008, the blame is rightly going to Romney, and Ryan is being indemnified by the muckity-mucks in our party.
KingGold on November 16, 2012 at 11:51 PM
That’s some weird ju-jitsu you’ve got going on.
faraway on November 16, 2012 at 11:52 PM
So what do you call someone who loses?
Should we award Mitt a shiny Participation Medal?
sharrukin on November 16, 2012 at 11:54 PM
Republicans just eat their own. Not only that, it seems like they can hardly wait to do it.
Alana on November 16, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Romney and Romney campaigners need to stop complaining about why they lost. It was ALWAYS going to be hard to beat Obama. We thought we had it, but Mitt did himself no service by not using EVERY missile at his disposal.
Where the heck was Palin? She should’ve been at EVERY rally possible prior to introducing Ryan or Mitt.
Walker 2016.
Because primaries don’t even need to happen when you have a winner.
Midwestprincesse on November 16, 2012 at 11:58 PM
It’s our ritual. Let us enjoy it.
faraway on November 17, 2012 at 12:00 AM
Don’t be an arse.
My point was that kicking someone when they are down is petty and small. But maybe you like that attitude.
Mitsouko on November 17, 2012 at 12:03 AM
How about the ‘Not Going There’ Medal of sullen Loserdom.
Ugly on November 17, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Yeah, I do. I figure Romney should have done a little kicking at Obama during the election. He should have taken advantage of Obama’s weak spots and delivered a knockout. Instead he told us what a nice guy Obama was, and his son was telling us that Obama is great.
I am sick and tired of the mincing little Milquetoasts in the GOP more concerned with being polite than with winning.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 12:09 AM
It’s good to take the boots to the other side, but to a fellow traveler? This was unnecessary and classless.
Besides, where were all these wits when the primary was going on?
Oh, that’s right. THEY DIDN’T RUN. Those that didn’t run should just STFU. With the exception of Gingrich, I have yet to see any other primary candidates out there feeding the media talking points.
There should be a basic level of respect to those that put their hat in the ring, especially by those that don’t.
AND QUIT TALKING TO THE MEDIA. Idiots.
kim roy on November 17, 2012 at 12:19 AM
I prefer to think of it as “culling the lame.” Just as we’re not likely to see any candidate comparing himself to Todd Akin any time in the next century, Romney’s presidential efforts are going to be analyzed and picked apart, so we won’t repeat his mistakes.
KingGold on November 17, 2012 at 12:20 AM
Fellow traveler?
“My views are progressive” – Mitt Romney
This is the gun grabbing author of Romneycare, and he has more in common with the progressives than he does with conservatives.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 12:25 AM
I am all for legitimate, hard hitting criticism toward an opponent, but the
the election is over.
Cruz was crude and it gained him nothing but a few cheap laughs. I’ll bet he would never insult Romney to his face like that and that is what makes it classless.
Mitsouko on November 17, 2012 at 12:26 AM
Why shouldn’t those who pretend to be on the right while agreeing with the policies of the left like Romney did in the second and third debate be mocked? I mock Meghan McCain for much the same thing so what makes Romney any different?
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 12:33 AM
That quote is from 10 years ago (2002). He was the nominee that was chosen. He’s entitled to a certain level of respect and this wasn’t it. We didn’t like it when it happened to Palin, it shouldn’t be acceptable because it’s not someone “conservative” enough.
This is how the democrats keep winning. You think they’d be pulling this long knives crap? No. They keep their mouths shut, adapt and learn.
kim roy on November 17, 2012 at 12:46 AM
You can mock all you want from the safety of your computer.
My point, AGAIN, is that Ted Cruz was classless in his comments because this is not something he would say to Romney’s face.
There is a way to criticize someone harshly without trash talking. If you need an example, refer to Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, or Ronaldus Magnus.
Mitsouko on November 17, 2012 at 12:48 AM
Oooooo. That’s an easy one. Romney ran for office. McCain sits around and says stupid things mainly for attention. Romney tried to make a difference. McCain just embarrasses herself.
Now if she were to put herself out there into the circus known as an “election”, then I would say the same about her – she deserves a bit of respect for trying to participate.
kim roy on November 17, 2012 at 12:53 AM
Cruz is being blunt, but Romney did essentially play it safe and agree with Obama during a lot of that debate. It was likely because he was afraid to go after him on Benghazi after the Crowley incident and because his idiot advisers behind-the-scenes had deluded him into thinking he had the election in the bag and only needed to play prevent defense down the stretch, but hindsight being 20/20, Mitt should’ve been in attack mode the entire final month of the campaign. Not cruise control(no pun intended).
Doughboy on November 17, 2012 at 1:04 AM
And he enacted progressive policies in Massachusetts as governor.
Has he done anything that would lead you to believe that his views have changed?
I will give him the same respect he gave the Republican candidates in his primary smear campaigns.
Well some of us didn’t like the Palin attacks because they weren’t true. If someone said that Palin’s statement that we should stop using the word ‘retard’ was foolish I would agree with them.
If someone says that Romney was getting entirely too friendly with Obama I would agree with them.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 1:09 AM
If there is anything this election has taught me, it’s that both the lefty whackjobs and the know-it-all TruCons are a nasty, classless bunch.
A lot of us believed that Romney would have made a fine POTUS. He is by any measure a far better human being than the current incompetent in the WH. It’s a shame some of you are so bitter and narrow-minded that you just can’t stop insulting Romney, who, after all, was the choice of R primary voters.
And someone should tell Ted Cruz that what goes around comes around.
Meredith on November 17, 2012 at 1:10 AM
So did Obama.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 1:10 AM
If Ted Cruz shows a tenth of Mitt Romney’s character and ability we should count ourselves blessed. Alas, it appears we may be disappointed concerning character.
claudius on November 17, 2012 at 1:13 AM
Romney loses.
Cruz wins.
Romney is the man we should all aspire to be, because being a beatiful loser is what the GOP does best.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 1:16 AM
And what exactly do you aspire to be?
claudius on November 17, 2012 at 1:19 AM
We could start with conservative which would leave Mr Mitt the Progressive behind and then we could try to articulate those beliefs in something other than a half apologetic fashion. We could dump the idiotic ‘compassionate conservatism’ and try to win with the principles that Reagan made clear. Reagan actually believed in something and that shone through. The midgets that followed were mouthing the words while trying not to look embarrassed, and not doing a very good job of it.
Romney: “I’m not trying to return to Reagan”
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 1:25 AM
Geez. Are you ever tedious. Obama ran for the other side. And Obama is Obama. I have nice things to say about Clinton, like his ability to be practical and work with congress, that he’s a master politician, that at minimum he likes his country. For obvious reasons, I can’t say the same about Obama.
Plus, Reagan’s 11th commandment seems to be in short supply.
Really, get some perspective. You think this behavior towards OUR OWN SIDE is appropriate, even for those we don’t agree with?
I’m out. Enjoy the last word.
kim roy on November 17, 2012 at 1:36 AM
Well, Reagan was The Great Communicator, but our situation was much different in 1980. Unemployment was higher, and interest rates were onerous. We had hostages in Iran that had been held for a year with no end in sight. We were still in the Cold War and concerned with the spread of Communism.
I don’t think Reagan would have won in 2012. In case you missed it, the side that won ran an almost totally negative campaign. They presented no ideas, good or otherwise. Americans voted for a continuation of benefits for the present. Maybe they’ll see things differently in 2016 if things don’t pan out. People aren’t always receptive to ideas at one time, that they may be receptive to at another time.
claudius on November 17, 2012 at 1:58 AM
Reagan would have never said that anybody in the GOP “french-kissed” his political opponent. That was not his style.
Gelsomina on November 17, 2012 at 1:59 AM
What makes Cruz’s comment dumb as well as classless, is that Romney actually got more votes in Texas than Cruz did.
Jon0815 on November 17, 2012 at 2:05 AM
No actually I didn’t miss it…but then I am not the one advocating for the noble loser Mitt Romney. The left believes in what they are doing, as repugnant as it is. The right believes in cocktail parties, polite conversation, cucumber sandwiches, and elevated dialogue while refining their arguments for the next Big Bash in 2016.
sharrukin on November 17, 2012 at 2:06 AM
What a dumb remark. He didn’t run a perfect campaign and wasn’t a perfect candidate, but he certainly attacked Obama’s record. What good does it do to tear him down further, especially with this revisionist bs? Is this eating our own just to get in good with the media?
By the way, Ted, Romney won more votes than you. In TX.
changer1701 on November 17, 2012 at 6:01 AM
Lighten up guys. We all know that Mitt french kissed the entire Massachusetts legislator when he signed in Romney-care!
