Some Denny’s franchises to charge 5% ObamaCare surcharge
With Obamacare due to be fully implemented in January 2014, Metz has justified his move by claiming it is ‘the only alternative. I’ve got to pass on the cost to the customer.’…
‘Obviously, I’d love to cover all our employees under that insurance,’ said Metz.
‘But to pay $5,000 per employee would cost us $175,000 per restaurant and unfortunately, most of our restaurants don’t make $175,000 a year. I can’t afford it.’

Blowback

Any company that makes such announcements will be pummeled by the legacy media and the activist progs…but I repeat myself.
d1carter on November 15, 2012 at 12:38 PM
And, that is the way the market works. I expect other businesses will have to do the same thing.
SC.Charlie on November 15, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Racist!
Let. It. Burn.
JPeterman on November 15, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Every business should do this. Show just how expensive “free” healthcare is.
rbj on November 15, 2012 at 12:40 PM
I hope it is clearly labeled on the receipt as “Obamacare”.
TampaBayBull on November 15, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Someone on another thread said this, and I paraphrase…..
Every business should not include the costs of Obamacare in their prices, but simply add a line item to the receipt – “Obamacare surcharge”.
Let everyone see what the real cost is rather than embed it in pricing.
BacaDog on November 15, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Indeed. They itemize the other charges…makes since to do so here, too.
changer1701 on November 15, 2012 at 12:44 PM
It’s going to be hard to boycott everybody, liberals.
Chuck Schick on November 15, 2012 at 12:44 PM
They’ll pass costs onto the consumer, or their employees.
At my dentist’s yesterday, a well-established, thriving, family practice with 4 dentists, there was a buzz. There’d been a meeting that morning on employee’s health insurance. Because of ObamaCare, an average extra $100 would be taken out the employee’s paychecks — dental assistants, hygienists, managers, front desk workers.
Hey, they can afford it. It’s for the greater good.
/Obama as queen bee in the socialist collective hive.
Paul-Cincy on November 15, 2012 at 12:45 PM
Gotta love the honest moxie.
Slainte on November 15, 2012 at 12:45 PM
The libtards’ list of places to boycott is getting longer and longer…
Soon they’ll have to boycott the entire US Economy….LOL

Denny’s – Stand by for IRS and DOJ investigations. Does anyone think other places won’t just “shut up about it”?
rhombus on November 15, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Remember when Obama attempted to sell Obamacare as a jobs program?
The Count on November 15, 2012 at 12:47 PM
The only thing slightly unusual about this is that it is being done explicitly.
If Barky had a grasp of economic fundamentals (highly unlikely), you could explain this to him. He’d say, “GOOD!” – people might want to complain about it but this is social justice. Someone had to pay for the 800 million uninsured Americans and stop armies of doctors performing amputations for kickbacks.
CorporatePiggy on November 15, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Technically it is. More people will have to work less hours = more employed!
Chuck Schick on November 15, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Great idea!
I wonder if ObamunistCare will drive more businesses to New Hampshire and Nevada? We could use a couple Chik-Fil-As….
dogsoldier on November 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Everyone raise your hand that saw this coming??..
Dire Straits on November 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM
Until they pass a law forbidding it.
CycloneCDB on November 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM
I can only hope the receipt actually has an “Obamacare” line item. So brilliant.
dczombie on November 15, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Companies will simply eliminate “full time” employees and hire new ones so they don’t have to pay for health care. So these people will have to find a second ‘part time’ job. This is insane.
Ah…unintended consequences.
nazo311 on November 15, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Me too! Every extra fee should have “Obama” before it.
Punchenko on November 15, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Libs were upset when Poppa John’s wouldn’t charge an extra $.14 per pizza to cover their costs.
And now that Denny’s has said it will charge customers to cover the costs, Libs are upset.
Wow…either way you “lose” with a Liberal. Seriously two-faced.
We know that Libs just want it “for free” which clearly illustrates their inability to understand simple concepts as “There is no such thing as a free lunch.”
ProfShadow on November 15, 2012 at 12:52 PM
In return we should be boycotting any union-operated business. Unions spent hundreds of millions of dollars getting little Bammie reelected, and they are going to expect payback. They put around 300,000 workers on the street to run the democratics’ GOTV effort.
Payback will be a federal law overriding Right to Work statutes in states, and Card-Check.
slickwillie2001 on November 15, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Unfortunately I fear that this will lead to cries for single payer. In the meantime, I don’t doubt for one minute (just recall the large number of waivers that were issued)that this Administration will continue to play favorites here too.
lucyvanpelt on November 15, 2012 at 12:54 PM
They will bring back Card check next….
nazo311 on November 15, 2012 at 12:55 PM
Think it can’t happen in America? Think again…
Top Dem Chuck Schumer was just trying to pass a law that would financially punish people for trying to give up citizenship and flee the country. Remember that? I wouldn’t put anything past these freaks.
visions on November 15, 2012 at 12:56 PM
This.
You know it’s coming. It’s good to be King.
JPeterman on November 15, 2012 at 12:56 PM
Is it wrong that I look forward to telling my employees their hours are going to be cut to 30 due to their vote for Obama?
Oh well.
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 12:57 PM
It is if you work for the IRS.
kim roy on November 15, 2012 at 12:59 PM
I have some Denny’s coupons. Maybe I’ll use them.
22044 on November 15, 2012 at 12:59 PM
Lol, please. What are they going to do? Force all employers to make workers full timers?
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Denny’s is racist!/
portlandon on November 15, 2012 at 1:01 PM
They probably have lawyers trying to figure out how to overturn RTW laws and employee-at-will laws. I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it.
22044 on November 15, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Every single business that has to do this should label this special charge “ObamaCare compliance charge” or something to that effect.
jawkneemusic on November 15, 2012 at 1:07 PM
If Obama is successful in burying his Benghazi scandal then I think a collective hush goes over America.
txhsmom on November 15, 2012 at 1:12 PM
Yes by Executive Order. He is the King and the King can do anything he wants.
All Hail The King!
JPeterman on November 15, 2012 at 1:15 PM
Why can’t you all just shut up and pay for things for me?
VinceOfDoom on November 15, 2012 at 1:19 PM
29. 30 is considered the new full-time if I understand the law correctly.
This is but a symptom of command and control by a central authority. They are not smart enough to pass laws that work, so they must pass a flurry of additional laws to force compliance with the original, poorly defined law. History is repeating itself…
stvnscott on November 15, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Lol why stop there, why not just mandate by executive order that all businesses hire 10% more employees and all student loans/private debt is forgiven? Then he can mandate that every American gets a nice house in the suburbs.
Heck, he can do this on day one and ride his unicorn down to the golf course.
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 1:21 PM
I think we are going to 28 to be safe.
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 1:23 PM
That’s pretty scary. 175 grand in annual profit ain’t that much and he’s saying an individual Denny’s location doesn’t even clear that?
Doughboy on November 15, 2012 at 1:24 PM
Do not give the King any new ideas
JPeterman on November 15, 2012 at 1:25 PM
Are you kidding?
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 1:27 PM
I have news for you–it’s already the law. Chucky just wanted to make it even worse than it is. It’s called a Departure Tax, like the one Nazi Germany imposed on fleeing jews. Only here, the US continues to “withold” (read, confiscate) 30% off the top of any pensions payed by US companies to citizens who renounce and live abroad. It’s our own little Berlin Wall. Feeling cozy yet?

Let’s become the new France! Venereal disease, anyone?
Paul-Cincy on November 15, 2012 at 1:29 PM
At least they wouldn’t get tagged with a higher tax rate for being over $250,000. At least this year…till the threshold is lowered. So, there’s that.
a capella on November 15, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Actually the tax rate for an individual that Obama wants to raise starts at the income level of 200 grand. But you’re right that it still falls below the threshold.
Doughboy on November 15, 2012 at 1:32 PM
You don’t have a lot of experience in business do you? If they are anything like the places I have managed in the past they probably have to do about 40-60k a week in sales and net 175k a year in revenue.
And half the stores in his franchise probably do between -25k a year and 100k. 175k might be one of his better performers.
jhffmn on November 15, 2012 at 1:32 PM
I’ve known people who run franchises for chain restaurants(albeit not Denny’s) and they cleared more than 175k. If they were doing 25-100k, they would’ve cashed out a long time ago. It’s too much work for that kind of margin.
Doughboy on November 15, 2012 at 1:35 PM
First they came for the pizza, now for the bacon sandwiches.
This is not going to end well.
