Why generals cheat
Many leaders—not just in the military, but in politics, medicine, the corporate world, all realms of life—have a talent for compartmentalization. Still, there are limits to how far the human psyche can be stretched. It should be no surprise that, sometimes, when people assume such a lofty helm and such extreme levers of power, the sense of self-supremacy that goes with the job can extend to other realms of life. …
News of Petraeus’ affair sent such massive shockwaves across the nation not just because he’s so famous but also because he seemed like such a straight arrow. There was something mythic about Petraeus, more so than about any American officer in a generation. That was no accident; Petraeus spent years deliberately cultivating that myth. …
Petraeus was a genuinely talented general: intellectually agile, strategically minded, and tactically bold. But the myth-making enshrined him, in the eyes of many, as an icon. It’s hard to imagine that he remained entirely immune to the adoration.
It’s also worth noting that some of his greatest achievements during the Iraq war were the result of going a bit rogue. …

What an idiotic article. No offense. Sounds like Fred Barnes is making excuses for the pigs. Guess what, I expect more from my Generals. Looks like this fooling around may very well have gotten in the way and affected other official business. Paula Broadwell is a cheap floozy, and the General turned out to be a dumb pig. What a terrible thing Paula Broadwell did to her kids.

Okay, so the article was written by Fred Kaplan, not Fred Barnes. Sorry, Mr. Barnes, for calling you an idiot!

Generals cheat for the same reason CEOs cheat. They are powerful men who are used to attention, fawning, approval. Many women are willing to provide those things to men in positions of authority/power.
You normally don’t get promoted to 4 star General for being a wussy.

Because he’s special!
Seriously, what happens to enlisted men/woman when they are caught in a scandal? Petraeus lived a double standard professionally and that is unconscionable.

Why do generals cheat? Because chicks dig uniforms.
Dukeboy01 on November 14, 2012 at 10:41 AM
For the same reason that all men that cheat do, it’s available.
Why was it available? Power and the money that can bring.
Does anyone think Petraeus is a romeo? Look at the guy. We ain’t talkin’ John Wayne here.
We don’t care, much, when someone in the private sector does this because their power and money are their own making and in their control.
A general’s power comes directly from us, the public. It’s not theirs to abuse.

Why do powerful men cheat?
What a thesis … what a 10,000 year old thesis.
Been happening since the first human walked upright. It will happen until the last one lays dead in the dirt. And THAT my friend, is why the holy rollers are fighting an absurd fight that they’ve never won – and never will.
