What business is it of ours if Petraeus had an affair?
Yes, he occupied a public post. But he has a right to a private life, private interests and private judgment calls. Yes, the affair came to light during an investigation by the FBI into a potential security breach, but the investigation concluded there was no breach and the “classified information” that Broadwell allegedly came into contact with is not thought to have come from Petraeus.
Sure, it wasn’t wise of him to grant his paramour access to his personal Gmail account (apparently so they could send messages to each other). But this should be of no concern to us other than amusement at the results of his naive trust in his mistress. She went on to use it to send catty “back off” messages to another woman she suspected was a love rival. She should have known better. Drama is the last thing any high-profile married lover wants in his mistress.
For sure, the story is gossip-worthy. But worthy of a formal inquiry, which is what some congressmen are now demanding? No. The story is more human interest than public interest.
There have been too many cases where we have lost competent professionals, not because of a failure in their duties, but because of puritanical judgment over their irrelevant personal lives.

Guys, why are you engaging an admitted Obama voter? That’s proof right there that Honda doesn’t know as much as he thinks he knows.

Well everyone knows I am a big Romney fan, but what does that have to do with the price of potatoes in Iowa?

The marriage vow is the most sacred vow a person can make.
If you will cheat on your spouse … .

He’s an Obama voter and Fauxachontas donator. What do you expect? Sanity?

A man that would betray his wife would betray a shipmate just as easily. Unless they are screwed in the head. You don’t cheat on your wife. Not out of Religious principal, but human principal. That’s an oath too. Men of honor respect both oaths.

Yes. It was difficult to keep you quiet with your slobbering devotion.

We’re being offered a false choice here – either you worship someone as a hero in all areas of their life or your don’t consider them a hero at all.
I can stand in awe of the bravery of the men on the beaches in Normandy without expecting that they would all be Jesus-incarnate.
Similarly, I can appreciate the thoughtfulness that founding fathers put in to the Declaration and the Constitution without expecting that they applied that same thoughtfulness in all areas of their life.
As for Patraeus, I haven’t really noticed a whole lot of Crazy Christians ™ going after his job. Sure, some people on a political site might state that it is an issue and some might state that it isn’t, but, all of those people found out about it when he tendered his resignation. In other words, unless you know of some crazy right-wing Christian in the Obama administration that forced Patraeus out, you’re tilting at windmills.

It wasn’t rape rape.

Well, since there’s no longer a Soviet Union, of course she wasn’t a Soviet spy.
However, the idea that a foreign power couldn’t try to extort him, or for that matter, turn her into an asset, simply doesn’t pass the giggle test.
When someone involved with intelligence is trying to keep something hidden from everyone, that something is, by definition, a potential object of blackmail.

Perhaps I am a complete idiot but was/is he not the head of the CIA?
Very alarming to be having an affair but guess it it is nothing to the libs when it was ok for a President to be doing an intern. It would get others fired. Can I ask why was he the head he seems really stupid a gmail account? Really what are you 12?
All I remember being told is if you hold no value to the vows you said your wife why would we expect much different to your country?
