Petraeus ghostwriter “clueless” about affair
I never anticipated the extramarital affair between David H. Petraeus and Paula Broadwell, the woman I’d worked with for 16 months on a book about Petraeus’s year commanding the war in Afghanistan. On rare occasions, her good looks and close access would prompt a colleague to raise an eyebrow about their relationship, but I never took it seriously.
I certainly wasn’t alone. The unusually close relationship between subject and biographer was no secret by the time President Obama nominated Petraeus as CIA director in the summer of 2011 following his command year in Kabul. America’s most famous and heralded general had granted Broadwell extraordinary access for her book, “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.” Nor has Broadwell done anything to hide this access or her great admiration of Petraeus since the book was published in January, describing him in terms that are, well, effusive.
So when the news broke Friday that Petraeus was resigning in disgrace because of an adulterous affair, I was dumbfounded. “Could it be Paula?” my friends and colleagues asked immediately. Even then, I said I would give her the benefit of the doubt — until the doubt evaporated a few hours later.

This guy is dense. I thought Broadwell tries to pass herself off as an intellectual of some sort. Why did she half to hire a ghost writer?

After the scandal broke, Broadwell’s husband was writing love messages to his wife in chalk on their driveway. He needs to wise up.

This “brilliant” nutjob had to have a ghostwriter?! I thought it was generally the SUBJECT of the book who had a ghostwriter. Thank goodness the Gov’t saw fit to provide Petreaus’ mistress with some help- she was after all, very busy with her emails.

Idiot. She was his gravy train. Period.

Obama knew about the affair from the time Petraeus was vetted for the CIA job. There is no way the vetting would not have picked this up, and the prez is the only one with authority to disregard such a thing, so he had to know.

There was a B movie series in the 1930′s starring Glenda Farrell as a journalist. Nothing got by her. So Vernon Loeb, actual journalist has less on the ball than the fast-talking blonde who turns out to be more real than he is. Kudos! Here’s your plastic trophy for excellence in digging deep into your subject!

Being highly educated doesn’t automatically turn someone into a professional writer. He may have been hired to fine tune a draft, work from an outline… or as an editor.
