Gen. Allen could face court-martial
The key distinction between Petraeus and Allen: Sources say Petraeus’s affair with Paula Broadwell began after he retired from the Army while Allen remains on active duty.
Although adultery is rarely a criminal matter in the civilian world, it is formally barred under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, to which Allen remains subject even as the senior four-star commander of U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan. If the DoD inspector general’s report concludes Allen violated the UCMJ, it would present his immediate boss, Gen. James Mattis of Central Command — and Pentagon officials in Washington — with what could be some tough choices.
Should they let Allen, 58, just retire from the Marine Corps or should they prosecute him? If he is cleared and wants to stay on duty, should the president continue to support his taking over the post in charge of European Command? That would require confirmation by the Senate — Allen will not take part in what would have been his confirmation hearing Thursday — and it could become a circus.

Congress can reinstate Petraeus as well, alas.

Joseph Stalin would be proud.

Let him retire and bar him from government dealings or positions. While I don’t think this guy should be in command anywhere. He probably has his 20 in years ago. His pension shouldn’t be effected by this and I don’t think he deserves jail time.

Interesting how all the Benghazi loose ends are being done away with right after the election. The ‘Chicago Way’ is what America voted for, they deserve it.

I rather doubt that a court martial will happen? Afterall, that rop type terrorist Ft. Hood murderer is still waiting trial for all those he killed and wounded over two years ago! And to boot, that murderer is still getting his military pay every month! The general, as far as we know, didn’t kill anyone?

Allen used the Southern term ‘sweetheart’. That’s it.
Obama is discrediting the generals that are about to testify against him on Benghazi.
Carry on.

There is no affair. No nothing.

I agree. The real punishment for any military officer is being stripped of command and having a life-long career be ended on a sour personal note. Reducing his rank, making his separation on other than honorable circumstances, or making him pay a fine is really beside the point.
My assessment would change if his adultery affected his job performance or, God forbid, resulted in the deaths of American troops under his command.

if ft hood was workplace violence, can’t this just be workplace romance?
3 generals, 1 admiral gone in the span of 1 month. is this a reverse coup?

Yup.

I heard about that about Allen this morning.
Any of you who are not from the South should know that calling someone ‘sweetheart’ can simply express cordiality and is not at all necessarily indicative of any kind of flirtation or sexual misbehavior.

Where are all the Clintonites to tell us this is just about sex?

Maybe Allen should be in jail. Petraeus bemoaned his ‘lack of judgement’, and it may be the same for Allen.
Did Jill Kelley hope to raise some cash by starting all of this?

They are noting to court martial a four star general for adultery or much else for that matter.
He’ll be forced to retire.

Yiu have to wonder at all the military misbehavior. Perhaps indicative of a lack of respect for the chain of command?

Kind of like the phrase “Bless his heart” is a nice Southern way of saying someone is a complete idiot, loser, jerk, etc.
Wethal on November 13, 2012 at 1:50 PM
The left has quite a racket going.
They send a plant to follow Gen Petraeus, and send tips back to a WaPo writer. They publish slanted stories in WaPo. The writer makes millions from a book about their mark.
Are we stupid or what?

Our congress/senate does not have the correct information, how can we citizens have the correct information to form our opinions from?
How can this lack of information promote anything but conspiratorial thinking?
So, here goes:
Somehow this benefits Obama and hiding the administrations wrong doing in Benghazi. That is an easy conclusion.
Then, there is internal reason from inside the state department or the military where someone is pushing these people out to shape foreign policy to their liking, to benefit someone…Hilary Clinton would be obvious, but it could conversely, someone who favors the president over secretary Clinton. An internal coup of sorts, conducted by blackmail.
Ok, that is my conspiracy theory. Date it and put it in a safe place.
