Assimilation, not amnesty
Not one of those amnesties was associated with a decline in illegal immigration. On the contrary, the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. has tripled since President Reagan signed the first amnesty in 1986. The total effect of the amnesties was even larger because relatives later joined amnesty recipients, and this number was multiplied by an unknown number of children born to amnesty recipients who then acquired automatic US citizenship.
Obama’s amnesty-by-executive order will produce more of the same.
Better Get Out The Vote efforts and data-mining by Republicans won’t solve the root causes of new generations of Democrats’ collective alienation from a common civic culture, core American values, and the sanctity of individual rights over the collective.
Left-wing academics and activists spurned assimilation as a common goal long ago. Their fidelity lies with bilingualism (a euphemism for native language maintenance over English-first instruction), identity politics, ethnic militancy, extreme multiculturalism, and a borderless continent.

Thank goodness the Left is going to help us understand our problems. The Tea Party is not defeated, only temporary set back.

Hey remember when Democrats were b*tch slapped by a massive unexpected shellacking in the 2010 midterms and proceeded to immediately drop many of their core “values”?
Yeah, me either.

Assimliation would help immigrants and help America as a whole. But as long as we’ve got bi-culturalism, conservatives should take advantage of that fact to deliver messages in the native language of immigrant groups, who are largely conservative.
The Democrats use scare tactics to win. We should start fighting those scare tactics now, not in 3 years and 11 months.

But as Malkin said, part of being American is believing in the sanctity of individual rights over the collective. How do you perform genuine outreach to a community so diametrically opposed to what you stand for? I mean, the importance of the general welfare is a core value in Latin America…

There is more than one way of life, and there is more than one system of opinions prevalent in the United States, so it seem some attention must be given to the way of life and the opinions to which immigrants come to be persuaded. Moreover, however important it may be to persuade immigrants to adopt the language of the host country, it also seems important to begin the work of persuading immigrants to adopt new ways and to consider new opinions as early as possible. Thus, it seems good, if possible, to begin persuading them in the language they already speak. If one does not do so, while others do, one’s own opinions and way of life may never get the hearing one thinks they deserve.

Schadenfreude, I’ve read some of your comments. I don’t think you’re genuinely interested in growing the party or expanding its reach. You are an angry person who uses peoples’ differences as a target.

Yes, long term the only real solution to our issues with minorities is to better integrate them into conservative American culture. This is why dominating school boards and educational institutions is of such importance in the long term.
Lets not fool ourselves though. We cannot just write off the current generation of minority voters, and hope the next generation will be more amicable to our positions. This is not the same as boldly declaring we can win these blocks, but we really don’t need to win them as much as split off enough to muffle the democratic machines advantage at national level politics.
This means, removing wedge issues. We could’ve used social issues to split off a portion of Hispanics this election cycle, instead the democrats used their own wedge issues to keep us off our game so they could focus on things like registering Hispanic voters.
This does not mean we grand blanket amnesty, some path to citizenship is likely inevitable, but that doesn’t mean we have to suddenly grant millions of illegals social security cards. Some sort of path that grants a very limited number of illegals citizenship, might be sufficient to remove the wedge issue. The key word there is might, maybe. Removing wedge issues like these so we can get off defense is the very first step towards improving our share of the Hispanic vote, but any such moves like this must be carefully weighed.
Basically, something must be done, and soon, but that doesn’t mean we rush into the very first option presented to us.

To expect this little of the first half black president, then to re-elect him, is the ultimate form of racism.
True racists can all burn in Hades, pronto.
Hypocrits who use racism to devide a land, while fooling minorities, can also burn in Hades.

English.
Teach it.
Facility with English is the difference between a Latino and a white guy with a tan. That’s from both their perspective and ours. You need to overwrite their culture with the American culture.
Racist and colonialist? Sure, why not. But there are no bicultural societies. Only one survives. If we can’t wash out the toilet colony that is Latin America political assumptions, we’ve become too effette and Carteresque to survive.
Teach them English, forcibly. We’ll make the money back several millionfold (a rate that only goes up as Obama spends money)

They’re not opposed to what we stand for. When’s the last election that was really about real issues? We let liberals move the goalposts.
Bull Conner Democrats were able to convince minorities to vote for them in the 70s. I’m sure we can convince them to switch back.
It’s like watching football. For a long time, people assumed that women just wouldn’t watch football. Then somebody tried to cultivate female fans, and voila! the NFL’s growth among women has been a huge part of their continued success. If we try, with the right message, we can succeed.

Who said anything about pandering? I don’t think Asians are expecting a handout. I don’t think hard-working Hispanics are all looking for amnesty. I don’t think blacks prefer government schools and low-income housing.
The truth is, most immigrants believe in the American Dream. And most blacks have lived through the failure of liberal policies. All we have to do is help them see that our plans are the plans that will make their lives better.
hawksruleva on November 12, 2012 at 4:11 PM
It’s true, the socal areas are quickly being swamped and taken over by Hispanics. Down from over 80% white just five decades ago, according to City Data, whites make up only 29% of LA County, as Hispanic numbers have ballooned to 47%: http://www.city-data.com/county/Los_Angeles_County-CA.html
Surrounding counties have as much as 76% Hispanic (check City Data), and a paltry16% white. And a huge number of individual CA towns, like King City, suddenly have over 90% Hispanic now. It’s never assimilation, it’s not a mixing pot or even a salad bowl for these new fertile immigrants, it’s a takeover. First CA, next the rest of the country.
anotherJoe on November 12, 2012 at 4:17 PM
As long as a welfare subsidy is available, you do not reach them.
In the old days, you reached the children. American public school education was geared towards assimilation and patriotism. English only
Many immigrants came for bucks, not liberty, but the system forced them to sink or swim. Meanwhile their kids were re programmed. Both vectors now missing
If the differences include refusal to assimilate, that is a fatal difference.
The portions of American culture which lead to success have been rejected by many blacks, at the encouragement of the Left. The sense that society is rigged against you creates a population who want to tear down the society and replace it.
Ernesto is correct. Mexicans get a socialist friendly indoctrination in Mexico bring these values to the US. They gonna support someone who despises socialism? Catholicism doesn’t preclude socialism. Many Bishops are open borders redistributionists.
This is one reason for the divide between Cubans who left Cuba to escape socialism, and Mexicans who bring socialist hopes. It is similar to the black vs white chasm, as Cubans take credit for their own successes, and Mexicans think it was favoritism that gave the Cubans a head up.
This is why Rubio’s bio won’t gain much with Mexicans. The GOP thinks it is magic, but Rubio has to work as hard as a white trying to get a black city to vote for him

Conservative principles work. The problem is the fools we choose to deliver them. I am sick and tired of so-called pundits. Maliki, Rove, Hannity etc. Live us alone.
Ordinary conservatives I know would do a better job communicating with their Hispanic and Asian neighbors than the hacks on TV. Hannity spent years railing against amnesty only to fold like a cheap w&&&e . It’s all about ratings and cash for them. We are all pons in their twisted game.
