Assimilation, not amnesty

Not one of those amnesties was associated with a decline in illegal immigration. On the contrary, the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. has tripled since President Reagan signed the first amnesty in 1986. The total effect of the amnesties was even larger because relatives later joined amnesty recipients, and this number was multiplied by an unknown number of children born to amnesty recipients who then acquired automatic US citizenship.

Obama’s amnesty-by-executive order will produce more of the same.

Better Get Out The Vote efforts and data-mining by Republicans won’t solve the root causes of new generations of Democrats’ collective alienation from a common civic culture, core American values, and the sanctity of individual rights over the collective.

Left-wing academics and activists spurned assimilation as a common goal long ago. Their fidelity lies with bilingualism (a euphemism for native language maintenance over English-first instruction), identity politics, ethnic militancy, extreme multiculturalism, and a borderless continent.

Removing wedge issues like these so we can get off defense is the very first step towards improving our share of the Hispanic vote, but any such moves like this must be carefully weighed.

Basically, something must be done, and soon, but that doesn’t mean we rush into the very first option presented to us.

The problem is it doesn’t remove wedge issues, it actually adds to them. Doing what you recommend actually screams to the entire country exactly what they have to do to defeat us. Before you know it, we’ll be offering open borders as a solution…you know, so we can remove that as a wedge issue.

Schadenfreude, I’ve read some of your comments. I don’t think you’re genuinely interested in growing the party or expanding its reach. You are an angry person who uses peoples’ differences as a target.

I, too, have read Schadenfreude’s comments.

I agree that he is not “genuinely interested in growing the party or expanding its reach.” If that is correct, I am with him. Screw the GOP.

But “You are an angry person who uses peoples’ differences as a target” is a non sequitur.

I and Schadenfreude, if I am not being presumptuous in speaking for him, are angry. But our anger is directed toward the takers. They want it? let them have it. In spades.
