Boehner to House GOP: It’s time to fall in line
Their party lost, badly, Mr. Boehner said, and while Republicans would still control the House and would continue to staunchly oppose tax rate increases as Congress grapples with the impending fiscal battle, they had to avoid the nasty showdowns that marked so much of the last two years.
Members on the call, subdued and dark, murmured words of support — even a few who had been a thorn in the speaker’s side for much of this Congress.
It was a striking contrast to a similar call last year, when Mr. Boehner tried to persuade members to compromise with Democrats on a deal to extend a temporary cut in payroll taxes, only to have them loudly revolt.
With President Obama re-elected and Democrats cementing control of the Senate, Mr. Boehner will need to capitalize on the chastened faction of the House G.O.P. that wants to cut a deal to avert sudden tax increases and across-the-board spending cuts in January that could send the economy back into recession.

Give Obama everything he wants. Then make him OWN the mess.
When there is no more free money, we’ll see how many people want to vote for the Democrats again.
Sparky5253 on November 11, 2012 at 12:38 PM
How can someone get to this level of government power without understanding how our three branches work?
rogerb on November 11, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Boehner is literally a crook who rigged a vote at the Republican National Convention, and according to 60 Minutes and the book, Throw Them All Out, was engaged in insider trading. If elitist crooks like Boehner weren’t immune from the law he’d be in prison!
FloatingRock on November 11, 2012 at 12:40 PM
An utter and complete lack of leadership. We’re scroomed.
CycloneCDB on November 11, 2012 at 12:40 PM
The reason America is going down the toilet is because of crooked leaders like Boehner.
FloatingRock on November 11, 2012 at 12:41 PM
some of them do like their morning koolaid that is for sure. When Boehner compromises he is a traitor and a sellout. When Pelosi, as minority leader prior to 2006, didn’t compromise she was a traitor and a sellout.
It seems so simple… /sarc
Bradky on November 11, 2012 at 12:43 PM
obviously the gop have never studied marketing…and have no marketers on their staffs.
the correct solution of all conservative commentators/politicians is post-decisional support
at this point you have 60M people who voted for the moron GOPers. Now, here’s the question…do you want their business again? yes or no? If you do the first order of business is to Ratify conservative principles…that they are good princples…and that people made the correct decision in voting for and supporting Romney
that is Number 1.
sure, compromise..sure…later…but right now…tell the supports we LOVE you…YOU were right…LEFTISTS are always wrong and will Destroy the country

So fall in line, but hold firm on tax increases?
It’s unbelievable that Boehner is willing to make the GOP take the blame for the next recession spotlight on behalf of his big business pals, but is going to cave on amnesty.
Get rid of him. And give Obama the tax rates he wants.
HitNRun on November 11, 2012 at 12:45 PM
The Soros funded SoS project is working out even better than he hoped.
Not only did Obama win, but now the weakling Boehner is caving on amnesty.
Boehner needs to find another line of work. He is a figurehead of ineffectiveness.
Difficultas_Est_Imperium on November 11, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Yep, stand firm on temporary matters, as all tax hikes and tax cuts are, but choose defeat on the permanent matters like amnesty. I think Boehner has been a Democrat plant all along.
You can give the ‘rats the tax policy they want and explain that you are doing it so that they have no more excuses and that we will flatten out the tax code as soon as we have the power again. The conservatives who would be angry aren’t gonna start voting Democrat.
Buddahpundit on November 11, 2012 at 12:53 PM
‘
I am sick and tired of this attitude that we need to give in and compromise our values when we ‘lose’ elections.
Does anybody remember the resounding cry in the ‘media’ when the democrats were beat down in the 2010 elections, demanding maybe they embrace a more conservative stance? NO!
If voters are not willing to keep America fiscally sound, and militarily viable, then you deserve the results.

Revel in the decline all you want.
You’ll be sinking just as fast as the rest of us.
Difficultas_Est_Imperium on November 11, 2012 at 12:56 PM
Boehner serves himself and his cronies, not the American people.
FloatingRock on November 11, 2012 at 12:57 PM
No, if that happens they will still be able to blame Republicans for the collapsed economy. We must give them everything they want. We can’t give the media any out other than blaming Obama for this mess.
rndmusrnm on November 11, 2012 at 12:59 PM
No one, which is why many of us support giving Obama and liberals everything they want. High taxes, kill coal, oil and gas, forced unioniztion, free abortion (I suggest government advertising), free college, hell … free everything. Obama has printed money three times, might as well print as much as we want.
This is your chance, go for it … create your dream world.
darwin on November 11, 2012 at 1:00 PM
This is what people think they want: more taxes, more government, more free stuff, no oil, coal and gas, rationed health care, pain pills for granny. I don’t see the problem with giving it to them. They need to see what true “liberalism” is.
darwin on November 11, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Can the ones who don’t wish to support, but not be called obstructionist abstain?
Queen0fCups on November 11, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Oh, they’ll still blame Republicans, even if it’s absurd to do so. They were perfectly happy to blame Bush for the Louisiana governor’s failures in the face of Hurricane Katrina.
Aitch748 on November 11, 2012 at 1:08 PM
Notice how according to the Dems/MSM it’s always the Republicans that need to compromise no matter which party holds what branches of the government, even when the Dems hold all three.

Especially when they have zero track record of doing so.

It bears repeating:
rogerb on November 11, 2012 at 1:14 PM
Then from here on out, the Republicans should start voting Present on every pice of legislation they don’t agree with.
Queen0fCups on November 11, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Sweetheart, they’ll get “vouchers” for their gas. You won’t. But bless your heart for imagining that the moochers will somehow “pay” for their mooching. They won’t. Not anytime soon anyway.

If boehner is not replaced as Speaker of the House the capitulating will continue. Fight for the Conservative values that you supposedly represent. If you are going to go down, at least go down swinging. Fight for what is right no matter what.
Corsair on November 11, 2012 at 1:35 PM
How about this? House GOP agrees to “get its ass in line” to borrow from the last time this jerk browbeat his own party into caving to the Democrats. Then, when it’s time to vote, every Republican member except limp Boner votes against the surrender, humiliating him with an effective vote of no confidence, causing him to step down as Speaker. I doubt it will happen since most of the Party is as cowardly towards him as he is to his golfing buddy…but I’d love to see him slink back home in shame and tears (again) to his tanning bed.

Even though the election was an con job rerun of past elections that didn’t address any of Americas biggest, present day problems, one thing we did learn from American voters is they want the GOP House to to stop the Democrats from steamrolling their agenda. If voters wanted the House to roll over and cave then they would have given it to the Democrats.
If Boehner caves on anything that he hasn’t already it’s because that’s what he wants to do, not because he has a mandate from voters. Any caving done by the GOP should be properly interpreted as the corrupt GOP establishment circling the wagons to make up for all the former Republicans who have been abandoning the sinking GOP ship. The GOP no longer serves the American people, only their crony masters, and in order to make up for all the good and honest voters who don’t approve, the GOP is going to have to print/barrow trillions more and buy the votes of more cronies and special interests like the Democrats are so good at.
But while that may be good for the elitist crooks at the top it is will be the wrong thing for America. The right course for America is to return to a path of freedom, liberty and prosperity and be a force for good in the world again. To hell with the crooked elites. In order for America to prosper again their rule must end!

May all of Congress go red in 2014.
The land must feel total destruction/pain.
Otherwise she won’t learn. It’s too late anyway.
Sterve them, though. Let them fund their Utopian pipedream. Don’t contribute and actively destroy all they attempt.
Reduce, close down and live the good life. No one deserves your sacrifices and hard labor. Look out for only your immediate own. Society can go to Hell.

Gee, I’m sorry. I guess I’ll have to buck up in the face of this. Put a pretty spin on things. Talk about how we’re really gonna get ‘em in 2016! And about how Zero and his party are really gonna pay when the shit hits the fan! And “Oh, no! Zero’s playing golf today while people are dying in the hurricane areas — he’ll really pay for that!” And other fictitious niceties. Now why don’t you give me a lecture about “not giving up” and all that, and end it with “We’re Americans, dammit!” That’ll be swell.
Rational Thought on November 11, 2012 at 2:22 PM
He’s despicable. I also heard Boehner use the words “I hope he is successful” in regards to Obama.
Where was Boehner when Harry Reid was threatening to block every single thing Romney might do if he should win? But I bet Boehner would have nothing but nice things to say about Harry Reid.
So I’m wondering.. what does Obama have on Boehner?
JellyToast on November 11, 2012 at 2:23 PM
I agree. Plus there is more that can be done.
Everyone should consider contacting your local government services office(s) to find out what free stuff you may be eligible for and entitled to get, even if it’s only hundreds of government pamphlets telling you what you are not entitled to get. Of course, I’ll mostly just those those pamphlets in the trash, and not the recycle bin.
You might be surprised what you can get for free. After all, these give away laws were written by bleeding heart liberals and lefties and administered by government bureaucrats who don’t really give a sh!t.
I’m considering a monthly or quarterly or visit to the local government services office(s) just to waste some government employees’ time asking about what free stuff I might now be eligible for this month or quarter, and to pick up a hundred pamphlets are so.
I’ll vote against the government giving away free stuff, but if they are going to give it away anyway I’d be a fool not to try to get my “fair share” of free stuff.

OT-my self-employed friend called his health insurance co. to figure out what was going to happen with his insurance. Turns out the ins industry can’t figure out which insurance policies are Obamacare compliant. Get this, for now, the govt is letting all insurance policies “pass” so long as everyone pays the $2800 ObamaTax. It actually works out to be cheaper for my friend that way, so he’s happy for now. And our health insurance just went up 50%! Can we call Obama a liar yet?
txhsmom on November 11, 2012 at 3:19 PM
At this point the Tea Party Congressional Caucus (66 members) should make it clear to Boehner that it will support a moderate Democrat (not Pelosi) against him for Speaker, or a testicate Republican like Ryan if Boehner withdraws in his favor.
Not bloody likely on either end, of course.
