Long Island residents enter day 12 with no power
Kate Murray, Town of Hempstead Supervisor told the crowds that it was “unacceptable,” that the head of LIPA was unsure of the policy regarding electrical inspections for residents. LIPA did not attend the meeting.
LIPA is in the process of sending teams of inspectors to homes and businesses within flooded areas along the south shore to determine whether it is safe to turn power back on to the area.
Unfortunately, residents have had to rely on word of mouth from neighbors as to when the inspections are taking place in their area, because a resident must be home. The inspection cannot take place unless a homeowner is present, and residents are instructed to reschedule their appointment if they are not home.

I am not sure people appreciate the depth of the looting that is occurring out here, we literally have “militias” forming where ad hoc groups of people with guns are providing security. The latest trick of the looters is to use boats at night and paddle up the canals to steal barbecues and generators. It allows them to quietly sneak in and avoid the checkpoints established in the communities.

And Obama said, let there be light, and there was light.

They went in big for Obama and big government – surely their rapid, efficient help is making a difference already.

Why yes it is a good day for golfing..!

I just had a LIPA boss tell me that our block would be lit up today, but since my conduit came down during the nor’easter I’d have to wait because LIPA doesn’t do that and my electrician is unavailable. Well the work chief and his crew are from Sumter utilities in Myrtle Beach and they just said Lipa be damned they’ll put me up. Next time someone says something about southerners I won’t just argue with them, I’ll fight them.
xkaydet65 on November 10, 2012 at 1:48 PM
I guess Chris Christy wasn’t invited for golf today…
… Maybe next time.

It warms my heart to know that the people of NY aren’t suffering like those people in New Orleans did.

Is Hillary shopping somewhere?
First world nation…
The federal and local response to Katrina was bad, no question. But part of that could be blamed on the relative newness of the existence of FEMA whose performance had never really been tested before now.
Now? It’s been 10 years and FEMA has been proven worthless. The American can-do spirit and self-independence seems to have been replaced with “Where’s my Obama phone, why isn’t the Red Cross here handing out clean underwear?!” Really. Clean underwear is the ultimate necessity after only 5 days?
But then this is the ultimate of a socialist society. My problems are ultimately YOUR fault because you didn’t prepare enough for me.
Is it any wonder Obama won?

It’s amazing to see so many conservatives are in favor of Federal government taking over responsibility for local power generation.
Apparently the loss was so hard they want everything nationalized now.

Moleseter you are off your meds again.
Conservatives are mocking you big government types not asking for nationalization of utilities.
You voted for Big Government and are discovering that it really isn’t particularly good at anything at all except monstrous waste.

Where’s Shep Smith? Where’s the outrage? More importantly where’s the accountability?
They got the government they deserve. And I’m from Breezy Point.

Don’t let Bloomburg hear you! He’ll strip you of your guns and then set up tents to serve low fat meals to the looters.
CurtZHP on November 10, 2012 at 2:22 PM
Maybe you should have consulted those of us in Mississippi who know how to handle these things.
We believe in returning the favor…
We sent you 2 dozen power trucks from Southern Company but you did not want them because they are not “union”.
I understand that the volunteers and truck loads of supplies delivered that were collected through countless churches down here have been well received because FEMA, local and state government is not doing squat.
I am sure the president will return immediately from his non essential Asian trip to take care of this mess. After all we are talking about a president that is brilliant, has the answer for everything and is no george bush!

Your use of “you” is misplaced. Residents in NJ and NY are upset about that. Quite a bit.
It’s pretty bad in certain areas. My uncle is doing recovery work in Breezy Point. He was quite moved by the experience, and he helped clean up Ground Zero
Rob Verdi is right about the militias.
You have looters dressing as Red Cross or power authority workers and invading homes

The media has covered his ass on everything. I don’t know why we call them “the media” since they’re now simply a propaganda arm of global socialists.
darwin on November 10, 2012 at 2:56 PM
If this were happening in Real America I might give a rat’s ass. Even then, I have no idea what these sob stories are supposed to get from me. A hand-out? My area is prone to basement flooding, so I bought a pump. I have insurance. If O’s orken hordes are too stupid to cover their own asses, the only emotion I can summon for them is schadenfreude.

blatantblue on November 10, 2012 at 3:43 PM
You can’t be a red stater if you live in a blue state. That’s axiomatic. If you mean conservatives then I trust that they would be smart enough not to stand around waiting for someone to come and feed them. There are functioning stores and restaurants a within walking distance from those areas.
