Arizona Dem to replace defeated Pete Stark as sole atheist in Congress
Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., the only openly atheist member of Congress, lost his race for another term on Tuesday (Nov. 6).
But nonbelievers will not remain unrepresented in the Capitol. Democrat Kyrsten Sinema, a former Arizona state senator, Mormon-turned-nontheist and a bisexual, has narrowly won her pitch for a House seat by 2,000 votes. …
…Speckhardt said Stark’s achievements for nontheists include his opposition to the war in Iraq and his support of health care reform and civil rights. He also worked for congressional recognition of Darwin Day and the National Day of Reason, which nontheists observe to promote science education and critical thinking. …
Sinema, 36, has much in common with Stark ideologically. Having previously served as both an Arizona state senator and representative, she has a long record of supporting women’s rights, marriage equality, gay rights and science education.

So what was the edge that gave it to bi sexual woman?…Oh wait! let me guess. Double minority. Bisexual and a woman.

What edge could a somewhat decent looking bisexual female have in an election? I’m betting she won a bunch of male votes on that alone.

Stark raving mad lost? Hey it was not such a bad election day after all.
Ted Torgerson on November 10, 2012 at 11:57 AM
Forward.

I didn’t know that nasty bigot, anti-Semite, and anti-American lost his seat. Good riddance A-Hole.

A bunch of racist democrats that refuse to vote for a black man.

So who’s the sole Mormon in congress?
Skywise on November 10, 2012 at 12:13 PM
She’s the one who lied about being Hispanic, right?
steebo77 on November 10, 2012 at 12:18 PM
She beat Vernon Parker, too. Damn shame.

Sinema wins with 88, 331 votes. Her Republican challenger, Vernon Parker had 84,263… and the Libertarian leech, Powell Gammill had 11, 729. Thanks Gammill for handing the election to Sinema.

Speaking as an atheist, Im not impressed…

We voted for & donated to her opponent, Vernon Bernard Parker.
We even had his sign in the front yard.

I already knew that she was a radical leftist.
Re. bisexual: Morally speaking, that’s no worse than other kinds of sexual sin, but no one goes around saying “I’m a fornicating heterosexual.”
Re. atheist: At least she admits it. There are many who say they’re believers but live like atheists.

I will never understand why anyone cares what religious beliefs a politician ha.
CoffeeMan on November 10, 2012 at 1:24 PM
I don’t think her sexual lifestyle was known. I sure didn’t know it.
Now that she’s in, it’s safe for the media to bring it up.
itsnotaboutme on November 10, 2012 at 1:27 PM
Because it forms the basis for so many choices & decisions, including political ones.
I’m talking about a person’s real religion, not what he says he is.
For example, Joe Biden is a Leftist, not a Catholic.
itsnotaboutme on November 10, 2012 at 1:29 PM
If that were the case, people would (rightly) care only about their political beliefs, choices and decisions and not care about their religion.

She’s a commie. She played herself off as some sort of centrist in this campain. Damn shame that Parker lost. He is great. Since he is an R he wasn’t authentically black enough according to the rules and a black friend of mine. You know, like that one guy who is even though he grew up with white, upper middle-class grandparents and went to private schools.
hazchic on November 10, 2012 at 1:52 PM
And the Libertarian is a conspiracy kook who thinks Vernon Parker was in the pocket of George H. W. Bush and the “neocons”.
There are things I cannot say here that I wish upon Mr. Parker Gammill.
UODuckMan on November 10, 2012 at 2:01 PM
You guys are doing that thing where you feel entitled to libertarian votes again even though the GOP has done absolutely nothing to earn them.
