Gallup
Poll: Improving national outlook on economy drove Obama’s victory
All of these factors played a part in Obama’s winning a second term as president, even though Americans are still in a somewhat negative mood in an absolute sense.
The 33% of Americans satisfied is below the historical average 38% and is the lowest it has been when an incumbent successfully won re-election. It was lower in late 1979 and 1992 prior to the defeats of Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush, respectively, but was significantly higher when Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush won re-election.

I think it was January 2009. And I know it was just under 800,000, but Obama and the rest of the Dems kept saying “800,000″. Actually, they originally were saying 750,000 jobs and then upped it right around election time. Funny how that works.
Doughboy on November 8, 2012 at 4:25 PM
A lot of people are trying to figure out how to schedule two part time jobs, pay bills and afford gas to get to and from their jobs.
It’s as simple as that. At some point working is not cost effective. Imagine that.
Regular people can balance their family budgets. When working doesn’t pay the bills, what’s the point?

Rep. Ron Paul, whose maverick presidential bids shook the GOP, said in the wake of this week’s elections that the country has already veered over the fiscal cliff and he sees no chance of righting ship in a country where too many people are dependent on government.
“We’re so far gone. We’re over the cliff,” the Texas Republican told Bloomberg Television’s “In the Loop” program. “We cannot get enough people in Congress in the next 5-10 years who will do wise things.”
Mr. Paul, who is retiring after 12 terms in the House, said voters on Tuesday rejected Mitt Romney because he had opposed the government bailout of General Motors and Chrysler.
“The people in the Midwest voted against him: ‘Oh, we have to be taken care of!’ So that vote was sort of like what we are laughing at in Greece,” Mr. Paul said.
“People do not want anything cut,” he said. “They want all the bailouts to come. They want the Fed to keep printing the money. And they don’t believe that we’ve gone off the cliff or are close to going off the cliff. They think we can patch it over, that we can somehow come up with some magic solution. But you can’t have a budgetary solution if you don’t change what the role of government should be. As long as you think we have to police the world and run this welfare state, all we are going to argue about is who will get the loot.”

I was rooting against a dead cat bounce right before the election in hopes it wouldn’t fool voters into doing something stupid. Now I’m just laughing at the dead cat.

When did Obama ever “own” anything negative?
If and when things get worse, Barky will just blame “the rich” and double your order of sh*t sandwiches.

On a related note, I’m having trouble with the HotGas logo at the bottom of the page covering the “logging in” link so I shut off ghostery for a moment … 76 trackers on hotair headline posts? really? 76?
Ought to be a law against that. /

You know it is much more complicated than that, but keep working these threads.
There is the power of incumbency, and they really made non-voters believe that Republicans were going to take away their contraception and got some of them to the polls: http://www.gq.com/news-politics/blogs/death-race/2012/10/president-obama-appears-under-the.html
It is a totally, cynical and corrupt use of power. It is more of the Oprahrization of politics, which explains why we do better at Congressional elections (especially mid-terms) over the presidential elections but keep on saying Willard, Willard, Willard!
mwbri on November 8, 2012 at 4:31 PM
24 years in the House and he did exactly what to help us stave off this disaster? Shunned he should be.

Every time I see that my current paycheck is $50 a week less than what I collected in unemployment benefits for a few months 3 years ago, I ask myself that very same question. Hmm…$385/week to stay home, or $335/week to work, while paying $40/week for gas…Hmm…

He voted no to government expansion and no to government infringing upon your liberties. Don’t blame him for being the lone one to do so; blame YOUR party for not doing so.

For the Let it burn Crowd, aka “Waaaa I’m taking my marbles and going home”
Really? You think that somehow you will be unaffected if a collapse occurs.
Looters will avoid your house. Doctors will make house calls just for you the next time someone breaks a bone. The fire department will reform just to come to your house if a fire starts accidently. The power company will be the little engine that could just so you can have power and refrigeration. Inoculations will somehow appear for you and your children. Unicorns will commit suicide in your back yard so you will have food.
Stop with the petulant 5 year old whine, you’re better than that.

The numbers don’t lie, do they? Unlike politicians.
The last job I took was turned into a temporary position. I had to take it regardless.
What does one do? Working is a matter of pride for me. I don’t want to be useless, but I think I’m being ridiculous.
You see, I held out hope. Not just for me, but for all of us. A better life. A purpose.
Like the fool I am I’m still trying to sort this out to see if there is a way to continue.
There are many things one can endure. There are many things one can live without. For instance, I’ll probably never have a treat like a steak dinner. I can do that.
But I cannot live without hope. To take that away is, imho, a crime.
That is what happened Tuesday.
Cody1991 on November 8, 2012 at 4:54 PM
Nope. It was because he managed to disgust 10 million voters with his lies and venomous ads, they wanted no part of the process. It allowed him to eek out a win with his base, the “vote or die” P. Diddy voters and the those susceptible to demagoguery. Politico’s tally if negative ads? Obama 85% negative.
Liberals only win with lies, slander and handouts. We must defeat these people.

Dude, hang in there! I am very depressed too about what happened on Tuesday, but I’m trying to find positive things to think about to take my mind off of the situation.
It’s going to be a rough ride for the next 4 years, no doubt. But once we’re past that, maybe we will elect someone who actually gives a shit about us and will turn things around.
As many people here are saying negative crap about Romney, well maybe he is a RINO, but I believe he genuinely cared about the “little guy” like us more than 0bama ever could.

I know how you feel…but I am determined to claim hope again. If I allow Obama and his minions to take that from me…then they have taken away the driving spirit to fight them….and wouldn’t the Democrats just love it if we all just gave up. No…I won’t ever give them that.

And has risen over 4500 points since Obama took office.

Romney was by no means an ideal candidate, yet for me he was.
Unlike BO who wasted time passing O’care and forcing down our throats during a critical time with our economy, Romney understood the basics…. and that is to get people working…. not to waste time…. not to let people fall off the map.
If nothing else, he understood that. And that much would have made all the difference to millions of Americans. Mitt knew that.
It would have given people hope.
Now, I’m looking for something called “hope” in a pile of ashes.
Slim pickings, for sure.

I’m still reeling and I haven’t settled into my post-election state of mind yet. I understand how you feel, yet you must remember that your JOY is something you decide to elevate. The bastards are winning this battle, yes. But every day is precious, and you cannot allow them to steal your joy.
Having a fairly well-paying job doesn’t provide joy; people become accustomed to what they have, then yearn for more. It’s human nature.
Joy is something that is up to every individual to find and cherish. Surely there are many things to be grateful for. In my case, that I have a wonderful husband, who loves me dearly and would never leave my side. That’s a huge gift. Our home (which is way underwater – fortunately isn’t literally underwater) is warm and dry, we suffered no damage from Sandy. Our loved ones are safe and all relatively healthy. We leave in a fairly peaceful country (with some idiots and extremely nasty people, but mostly decent and cooperative people). My husband was laid off from his job (but it was a very stressful job that was stealing his health), so at this rate it’s only a matter of time before the numbers catch up with us, and we could very well lose our home. He told me not to worry about it, and with God’s help I haven’t worried about it. He’s been doing a lot of painting and living his lifelong dream of being an artist. He sure wouldn’t have quit his job to do that, but now he’s finding joy on a daily basis as his technique develops. Maybe he will actually be able to support himself with his art. Our needs are few, and this house is just a thing.
What does depress me is the thought that the next generation may well never understand what is being lost.
I think maybe the American people still have a lesson to learn, and God has blessed us with Barack Obama for another four years. Blessings are often unpleasant, but that’s how people learn. I expect things will get very bad here, to the point where media lies won’t be able to convince people any longer.

All talk. Name some of his accomplishments after 12 terms.
Thanks.
He has been head of the oversight committee for the Federal Reserve for a while now. The Fed is Paul’s big big schtick. “Get the Fed!..get the Fed!!..bwwaaak…bwaaak!!

Were those bills he voted against..the “Government Infringing On Your Liberties Bill”? and the “No To Government Expansion Bill”?
I don’t remember those two…but anyway, he accomplished zip. Yeah!..HE should be president. He’s done similar things with spending bills..squawk about them…and then take the fed money for his state.
What has his probing through the Federal Reserve turned up so far?
