Huckabee: The GOP has done a “pathetic job of reaching out to people of color”
“What do you make of the racial divide we are seeing in vote totals,” Megyn Kelly asked.
“I don’t see it as all that shocking. I mean, typically, people of color tend to vote Democratic anyway,” Huckabee began.
“I think Republicans have done a pathetic job of reaching out to people of color – something we have to work on,” Huckabee continued. “Republicans have acted like they can’t get the vote, so they don’t try. And the result is that they don’t get the vote.”

Yea, they hate gays and all that, as seen by various gay marriage props being pimp slapped across the country, but they have no common ground with us on fiscal policy.

Who knows where to even begin.
I just hope that cold b!tch known as Math comes and bends us over ASAP.
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Oh, come on. The only one of these that’s even remotely controversial is the code word one.
On the other hand, if you promote guys like West and Herman Cain, with their “Democratic plantation” malarkey and “it’s all our fault” attitude, they are certainly going to be seen as toadying to the a white Republican base. On the other hand, someone like Mark Rubio, who clearly recognizes that Hispanics have special concerns as a group, and is willing to — at least mildly — challenge GOP dogma in those areas, while remaining an otherwise doctrinaire Republican, could make serious inroads.
You need to find a black Rubio.
urban elitist on November 7, 2012 at 10:17 AM
A strong candidate, with a clear conservative vision, will win…but that scares the GOP, who feels moderates are the ones that can win, well the last two have shown that they don’t win…
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:18 AM
So, I guess you’re ceding us the minority vote then, for ever and ever.
I’m just trying to help.
urban elitist on November 7, 2012 at 10:19 AM
We need to start handing out menthol cigarettes and malt liquor. Screw the Republican party!
trs on November 7, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Ahh…the self loathing Lilly-white-liberal. I bet there are no blacks within 5 miles of your house.
ClassicCon on November 7, 2012 at 10:21 AM
It will easier to attack every race monger and attack every time someone tries to involve race into policy, than to woo the vote back to the Republican’s…
The fact is, we have allowed the dems to create an image of racism, it’s to their benefit to continue racism in the U.S. Without that, they would lose every election.
No, the only way is to attack racism, the race baiters.
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:21 AM
When will you address the epidemic of black on white crime? Is that a “real” concern?
ClassicCon on November 7, 2012 at 10:22 AM
What you don’t understand is that “minority vote” is of no long time service to you…it will take you down also.
How much money that you earn are you willing to give to them to preserve your (not you, but your party leaders, you are just a pawn) power?
Eventually they will demand, and get, your “fair” share, assuming you have a job and earning money…
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Go away, Huckabee.
Again with all of Mitt’s flaws, he was running against two opponents–Obama and media. Drive down the ratings of all of NBC shows. Keep the slow steady death of the old media going. We can do better with African-Americans (to a certain extent it won’t work for some as the TXT passed along by blatantblue shows). However, there are plenty of people of color in the R party, but they are “house negroes” to the MSM.

The economic collapse is not too far off (I believe the CBO projects that sometime around 2025). The only thing keeping the Democrat coalition together is it’s lie that it can keep paying out to all of it’s client groups. Once that is no longer the case they will fracture. At that point the GOP will be harder to blame for everything evil under the sun.
gwelf on November 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Meaning we didn’t offer them enough money?
ktrich on November 7, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Right, stop using all the code words and dog whistles that most of us aren’t even thinking about. And then try to stop all the unconscious racism I feel apparently.
Honestly, I don’t care. If this is what my citizens want, this is what they’ll have. And I’ll learn to play the fiddle until it collapses.
Esthier on November 7, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Actually my next door neighbor is black, my zip code is about 65% minority. My daughter’s high school and the lower school both my children attended were majority-minority.
Crime is crime. Poor people steal from rich people.
urban elitist on November 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Cause Rubio hasn’t been slammed as a race traitor?
Esthier on November 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Cute how you just wave off rape and murder…guess they deserved it since the victim is in a higher tax bracket.
ClassicCon on November 7, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Maybe we should take a page out of the Dem playbook and tell minorities they’re too stupid to figure out how to do the most basic of things, like get ID. Seems to work for them.
xblade on November 7, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Racism. Great first step on the path to victory!
KingGold on November 7, 2012 at 11:02 AM
First – a man like Huckabee thinks always of skin color.
Good people do not. That’s the difference between being a racist and not being a racist.
We are ALL just people.
jake-the-goose on November 7, 2012 at 11:05 AM
The irony is that BO has brought more blacks into the political process and generated a lot of interest in the issues which is the first step to changing votes–when people are engaged they can see alternatives and can be attracted to differing views. That said, Obama is a unique candidate in being able to turn out the black/minority vote–any non-minority candidate Dems turn out in 2016 will not receive anywhere near the same enthusiastic support.
karlant on November 7, 2012 at 11:06 AM
There are always a-holes, but Rubio doesn’t seem to have come in for much. It’s not like there’s a dearth of Hispanic Republicans in Florida — and there were quite a few in Texas, until the immigration thing got a little overheated. Importantly, he’s not whining about it.
If a bozo like Herman Cain wants put himself as some kind of New Black Leader, he deserves what he gets.
Are you alleging a national, systematic campaign to rape and murder white people? Please document.
As for violent crime, I am far more familiar with it that I wish to be, and do not wave it off at all.
A nice patronizing attitude, that always works.
Hey — I came out with a few modest suggestions. A party that can’t even respond civilly to those, should just admit to itself that it really doesn’t care to pursue minority voters and turn your attention full-time to rolling up the white vote. We’ll se how it goes.
urban elitist on November 7, 2012 at 11:07 AM
Again, another dumbass pundit apologist. What more can be done? Appeal to morality, appeal to the color blind society ideal, present strong multiracial candidates, present a vision of self-reliance and self respect, present a vision of equality and opportunity, present a history of civil rights advocacy? It still all comes down to takers vs. makers. We are fighting an artificially repressed group brainwashed to believe they are beholden to the race-baiting favor and welfare crowd. They voted the confluence of their pocketbooks just as much as they voted their pride in a candidate with their skin own color. It took 70 years to get here. It may take a collapse to get out, not a better party PR campaign.

Don’t waste your time. The reflexive and deep-rooted hostility is impervious to reason, as it always has been. Just read the comments here today for evidence of that.
lostmotherland on November 7, 2012 at 11:50 AM
Your penchant for stupid generalizations is emblematic of the tone-deafness that puts GOP in the loser column. Seriously, it’s as if you CAN’T see yourself in the mirror.
You don’t even understand the problem with what you just said. Until you and a majority of conservatives get it we will keep losing.
I’m withholding all GOP dues locally and nationally. I consider my church-tithing to be somewhat political too. But I will never stop giving in that way.
Capitalist Hog on November 7, 2012 at 12:15 PM
No, you’re just trying to get the GOP to flip to Dem-lite, so that your ideals win out either way. Heads I win, Tails you lose.
The GOP doesn’t need to pander to the minority vote. Even in this electorate, we only lost 50-48. We need to run away from social issues, push fiscal conservatism (which is really just fiscal reality; this country is going bankrupt, and only a reversal on certain policies can stop), and go after the youth vote and the white female vote where we currently either lose by a narrow margin (white women) or get crushed (young voters).
Trying to court the black vote is never going to be worth it. If a black candidate is on the Dem ticket, 95% of the black community will vote Dem, and it doesn’t matter what “code words” the GOP uses, it doesn’t matter what terms they use to talk about urban areas, and it doesn’t matter how many times we forward the Obamaphone lady (which isn’t racist at all; the humor comes from her being a stupid Democrat, not from her race).
The only minority group we should try to make strong in-roads with are Asians, and maybe Jews. I wouldn’t make a special effort to pander to gays, but dropping the opposition to gay marriage will obviously swing the gay vote a tiny bit.
Good Solid B-Plus on November 7, 2012 at 12:54 PM
They can already get the free phones, which have been around longer than 0bama. We have to move up to free iPads, with 4G LTE.
Ward Cleaver on November 7, 2012 at 12:57 PM
Yes Mike..we have to promise them handouts just like the democRATS do….we have to stop talking about people being individuals, especially minorities….the government after all is the ultimate solution to everything
