George Will: Marco Rubio is last night’s winner
GEORGE WILL: “During the Republican nominating process, the party turned first to one person and then to another to try and avoid what turned out to be inevitable. If there’s a winner tonight, it’s the Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio because all eyes are now going to be turned to him as a man who might have a way to broaden the demographic appeal of this party.”

He was my choice for VP.
Zaggs on November 7, 2012 at 10:06 AM
He’s easily the frontrunner for 2016. And he’d probably get to 270 EVs without too much difficulty(especially after 4 more years of Democrat rule). But what’s gonna await him once he arrives in the White House?
Doughboy on November 7, 2012 at 10:08 AM
George Will = no credibility….worthless analysis
LordMaximus on November 7, 2012 at 10:09 AM
I’m not ready to hype anyone.
NebCon on November 7, 2012 at 10:09 AM
This.
You want it? Come and get it. I have no faith in ANYONE.
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:11 AM
Oh, more of anybody but a white guy.
Yeah, how’s that working out for you? Call Mia Love and Allen West and ask them.
Moesart on November 7, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Why? It’s not like the GOP will get credit for having a Hispanic nominee. Instead, he’ll be discounted because he has Cuban ancestry (so it doesn’t really count), and the historic nature of his candidacy will be ignored.
In the meantime, the Left will end up running either a woman, or a minority of their own, and THAT will be the focus.
changer1701 on November 7, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Me neither.
Alan Grayson is back in Congress. This whole thing is going to be unbearable. Might have to drop out for a while.
forest on November 7, 2012 at 10:13 AM
GOP does have a deep bench for 2016. Who do the Fascist-Democrats have? Biden? Hillary!?
rbj on November 7, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Another “nice guy”, yeah, that will win it again…I think we have tried that, the only thing with Rubio, we can march him around as being our token…
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:13 AM
God… Please no. We’re going to affirmative action vote now. I guess this means Ryan’s national ambitions are over. He followed his mentor in lots of ways apparently.
Illinidiva on November 7, 2012 at 10:14 AM
Enough with the 2016 already. The Pubs have to hold the House and put up a fight for the Senate in ’14. Normally the incumbent’s second term leads to losses in Congress, but I have full faith in this administration and its surrogates in the media to sell the GOP House as the last remaining obstacle to Forward.
SoFlaCon on November 7, 2012 at 10:15 AM
I think it may be too early to be taking about 2016. Our proximate goal is limiting the damage over the next two years and retaking the Senate in 2014. Which just got harder, because the Dems picked up a few seats this time.
KingGold on November 7, 2012 at 10:15 AM
George Will needs to stop talking. I’m sorry but Senator Rubio is no longer a Tea Party member. He voted for the NDAA which does nothing but give the executive power more force and…well power. Rubio is more of the same.
MoreLiberty on November 7, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Exactly…here’s a novel thought, how about running the best guy for the office, the most powerful dynamic hard hitting conservative…
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Oh, btw, is everyone now going to second guess Romney on his VP pick? Maybe he should have chosen and “unknown”, the results was the same.
right2bright on November 7, 2012 at 10:16 AM
If Rubio was Veep last night – FL and VA go R. Maybe OH, CO and NV.
budfox on November 7, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Ted Cruz – Tea Party candidate – won the senate seat in Texas.
MoreLiberty on November 7, 2012 at 10:16 AM
I like Ryan, but he appealed to no one that was going to tilt a state.
That was the entire point of last night.
budfox on November 7, 2012 at 10:17 AM
That’s precisely why he still has a chance. Don’t you get it? The American people just cold-cocked the Tea Party last night.
The Tea Party is enthusiastic, but one enthusiastic vote is still one vote. We need more than the Tea Party to have any chance – a lot more.
KingGold on November 7, 2012 at 10:17 AM
OH YOU GOTTA BE FCKING KIDDING ME
I didn’t catch that last night.
UGH.
America needs to dissolve right now
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:17 AM
LOL.
Rubio is a wimp.
Didn’t George predict a landslide for Romney?
albill on November 7, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Let the minority pandering proceed full speed ahead by the Republicans. I am done with the Republican party and will be removing my voter affiliation tomorrow. Instead, I will defend my family and property by whatever means are necessary.
trs on November 7, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Yuppers.
Alan Grayson is in Congress, and Allen West is out. Brutal.
KingGold on November 7, 2012 at 10:18 AM
I think the GOP is sufficiently spooked about their wipeout with Latino voters to give Rubio a serious look in 2016.
The GOP has to flip FL (-0.5% in 2012), OH (-2), VA (-3) and CO (-4.5%). Not that even if Romney won the popular vote by 1%, he would still be well behind in CO and lose the election. And in CO, Rubio will play very well.
I think he is basically an empty suit, but as we all know with the proper handlers this is largely irrelevant. If he has presidential ambitions, we will see soon enough, by early 2014 at the latest.
buridan on November 7, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Dream on, Mr. Will. Rubio is talented and well-spoken, but Obama punked him when he used an EO on a watered-down DREAM Act. He took away Rubio’s only appeal to Latino voters, and Obama showed he didn’t need to deal with Congress to get it done. That clinched the Latino vote for him right there. You’ll see conservatives reject Rubio once he votes for an amnesty bill that is sure to come up in the next year or so.
RedRedRice on November 7, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Denial is going to be huge for sometime.
Lot of people do not want to admit to wtf happen last night.
budfox on November 7, 2012 at 10:21 AM
This is an absolute mess
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:22 AM
You all need to spend less time looking at Rubio types and more time looking at Huntsman types if you want the melty bunnies to stop.
Alpha_Male on November 7, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Oh GOSH
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Marco “Starving Mexicans” Rubio 2016!
And Jindal for VP! Why, he’s even darker than Obama!
We can’t lose!
Ostrich Egg on November 7, 2012 at 10:24 AM
RINO me once, shame on me.
RINO me twice…
faraway on November 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Umm.. Ryan was on the ticket because he did something. Rubio is basically a Latino version of Dan Quayle. I think that he would have ended up playing deer in the headlights to Biden in the VP debate.
And for the last time. it’s not Ryan’s fault we lost. I’m seriously not going to let you blame this on my guy.
Illinidiva on November 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Rubio yeah, just what we need another establishment RINO.
bgibbs1000 on November 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Rubio isn’t all he’s cracked up to be.
Yea, good speeches, but I’ve never seen an interview and been like “WOW.”
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Where’s Dante to tell us Rubio can’t qualify for Prez?
Bitter Clinger on November 7, 2012 at 10:26 AM
In another 4 years Rubio will be just another establishment candidate. The republican party is like a dead, dying inverted turtle. It’s last gasp is coming sooner than many think.
KickandSwimMom on November 7, 2012 at 10:27 AM
It’s more than a river in Egypt, after all.
The blame-RINOs-first crowd is already in full swing.
KingGold on November 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Dick Morris has Rubio in a landslide. 320 EVs.
VinceOfDoom on November 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Guys…
the answer is clear…
We need a REAL Conservative, with a REAL Conserative Record who isnt afraid to talk Conservative during a campaign
JINDAL2016
corujodp on November 7, 2012 at 10:29 AM
hhahahahahah thank u i needed that
blatantblue on November 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM
What? You think that Romney and Ryan were actually Tea Party candidates? Ryan who voted for TARP and consistently voted to raise the debt ceiling? Sorry but actually Tea Party candidates, for the most part, won last night. A great example is Amash and Cruz. These guys actually support liberty and freedom as opposed to more big government statism like R/R. If the GOP wants to get more voters they are going to have to embrace true freedom and liberty thus showing how much of a tyrant the DNC really is.
MoreLiberty on November 7, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Latino Obama basically is what Rubio is. Jindal would probably be the frontrunner in 2016 but cannot give a speech.
Illinidiva on November 7, 2012 at 10:31 AM
Boy, you guys are a bunch of sourpusses. I know it is rather premature, but who would you prefer?
I know that I would be very enthusiastic about a Rubio candidacy.
bluegill on November 7, 2012 at 10:32 AM
I’m sorry, I can’t take it any more either, this endless talk of a new GOP. I guess white males can no longer run for office?
Even if Rubio wins, what is the point? He will preside over Obamacare better than a Dem? He will tweak a few regs to control the death panels?
What’s the point?
It’s over, at least until the whole thing blows up or until WW III starts.
PattyJ on November 7, 2012 at 10:32 AM
If Romney had turned out his base, it would have worked.
Romney’s ground game was a mirage.
faraway on November 7, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Sorry.. Jindal lost the nomination in 2009 with his SOTU response.
Illinidiva on November 7, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Considering that Obama just won two elections, I will take the Republican Latino Obama next time, if it means we win.
bluegill on November 7, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Republicans have to stop hyping people just because they are not a Caucasian.
It doesn’t work. Not for Republicans. How much failure do you need?
Moesart on November 7, 2012 at 10:33 AM
And it will be…………
M. Obama
She’s minority, a woman and married to a deity. She has said she would consider it. It’s hers for the taking and if she runs the repubs should just bow out because no body would be able to beat her.
