Matt Welch
Not only does politics make us stupid, it poisons our children
I would have considered this a one-off Brooklyn anecdote, but then I tweeted it and received responses like this, from the baseball writer (and Chicago-dweller) Tim Marchman:
Word on the playground at my kid’s school is that Mitt Romney hates firefighters.
And this from a chap called Judah, who may or may not be from San Dimas:
I heard “Romney is Jewish, no wait, he killed someone Jewish” from my 7 year old today.

When I was a kid we had a song about Jimmy Carter set to the Oscar Meyer Bologna jingle.

Correction Mr. Welch. PROGRESSIVE politics makes people AND their children stupid.
wearyman on November 6, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Ignorant children. So much fear-mongering. None of the people Romney gave cancer to were Jews.
RINO in Name Only on November 6, 2012 at 2:45 PM
So your saying that the progressives go after children first? Go figure.

Liberalism poisons children, and I tell my kid that as often as possible. Always make sure she knows only stupid people are liberals, so if she doesn’t want to be stupid, she’ll steer clear of the crud that comes from their mouths. Luckily she’s my kid, so she comes with a brain from genetics. Which I suppose why there are really dumb liberal children: they inherit the lack of smarts from their parents.

They learn this crap right in their classrooms, from their union-loving teachers.

Yes.
Add hateful to that.
This is not just stupidity, this is stupidity + hate.

Another reason to home school.

bullcrap. Politics gives children their first lesson on not trusting strangers and that some adults lie. It is a “teachable moment” brought to you by lying scum that politicans are.

CAN you just imagine what the two girls of bho/mo are getting at the dinner table chat from those two? Me thinks it is just what bho/mo has/is spewing against our nation and citizens?
It is sad, beyond sad, kids get the parents left bias and then in school also?
Home school is the answer, but not what many are able to do?

We pulled my daughter from public school in 4th grade when one of the girls in her class announced proudly, “I don’t like white people.”
Stupidity and hate is planted at home, but it’s nurtured in the classroom.

My kids voted at their elementary school last week. They’re 5 and 9. I try not to talk politics around them because I think they should form their own opinions, but I do instill conservative values in them.
They both voted for Romney. My 5 year old was all excited when I got home from work to tell me she voted. The conversation went something like this:
Maggie: Daddy, Daddy!!! I voted today!
Me: That’s great!
Maggie: I got to circle who I wanted to be president on a piece of paper.
Me: Well…who did you vote for?
Maggie: Mitt “Romedy”
Me: Why did you vote for him?
Maggie: Cause every time I see Obama on TV he’s always mad.
I guess kids really do pay attention.

My 8 year old grandson voted for Obama because a classmate told him that Mitt Romney would take away kids’ television programs.

That was golden! You are right, kids are way smarter than we might think? Good job with yours!

Of course, the only “solution” is a single party progressive/fascist state.
Then, nobody has to worry about politics – unless they want a free trip to the reeducation camp.

It’s a far cry from when my teachers would give stern reprimands for any kind of misbehavior.

I think having children repeat what they are told is poisonous. I have told my children that I don’t care where they stand as long as they can intelligently back up their positions. So far, I have a thirteen year old son who agrees with us on some things and not on others. My five year old wants Barack Obama to win, but would rather George Washington come back alive and become President again, so there is always one..

Just remember while you are not talking about politics around them their teachers friends etc are and children’s opinions are formed by the information they recieve from their surroundings. Without your input they will form their opinions based off of other’s views instead of yours.

tell your 5 year old I have the same desire.

Sounds like his classmate will grow up and be a campaign advisor.

We’re actually pretty lucky. We live in a place where most people (even Democrats) are pretty conservative. Every school teacher they’ve ever had has been conservative. They only thing I see as liberal in their school is the Scholastic newspapers they are given about once per week. Of course, I go over everything with them and if there is something that I don’t agree with we discuss the conservative side of the issue. Once kids learn that nothing in life is free, they pretty much take the conservative side on most issues.

A good reason to make the foot print of government on our backs as small as possible and still have a cohesive society.
Too bad Republicans have abandoned this idea almost to exclusion.
