Welcome, President Romney
Here’s the big picture for the presidency: Romney will win the entire South, including “swing” states North Carolina, Florida and Virginia, plus all the usual solid-red states of the inland West. That gets him to 248 electoral votes. From there, he will need only one state from each of the next two conglomerations of three. He will need to win either Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Michigan, plus either Colorado, Wisconsin, or Minnesota. He will indeed take two of those six in the right combinations, and he will be president. And that doesn’t even include New Hampshire (an absolute tossup), Iowa (I think it will go for Romney), or Nevada (probably an Obama state), or the lone elector from the Second Congressional District in Maine, which will go for Romney, too. And it doesn’t include still theoretically possible longer shots Oregon (actually, it’s doable) and New Mexico (probably not). Any of those states could help form other combinations that bring Romney to the 269-269 tie that he needs to carry the day — or better.
What it boils down to is that it is Obama, not Romney, who really has to “run the table” in order to eke out a victory. But he won’t. Romney will win, 284 Electoral Votes to 254 for Obama.
Romney will also win the popular vote, but with a plurality rather than a majority. I have it at Romney with 49.8 percent, Obama with 48.6 percent, and Gary Johnson/Virgil Goode/others at 1.6 percent. (Ignoring the fallacy of misplaced concreteness/misplaced specificity, and just to have some fun, I’ll peg Romney’s total votes at 64,576,316, Obama’s at 62,982,965, and all others combined at 2,135,802.)

This is how I have had it in my calculations as well. Two paths for Romney. 285 EV.

I’ll take it. Hello, Pres. Romney.

Please let my ears hear those sixteen magical words…
“Fox News projects that Mitt Romney has been elected the 45th President of the United States.”

“MSNBC projects that the racist Romney has lied his way to victory. Lawsuits have begun in all swing states. Show your support by rioting.”

I love this paragraph:

Both sides are projecting wins for their candidates. One side has to be deluding themselves. I sure hope its not ours, or I will be very very disappointed tomorrow evening.

Love this. Barry’s final rally in Ohio with Springsteen and Jay-Z was as much a dud as the candidate.

If an incumbent who was swept into office by a huge margin can’t say with any confidence he’s won again the night before his reelection you can be sure he’s lost. This is all simply denial.

This is a chance to sharpen your thinking skills. What is the basis for predictions at this point? If you had been reading Hot Air blog posts from Ed Morrissey and Allahpundit over the past few months, you would know why the vote will turn out the way it does.
Dextrous on November 5, 2012 at 10:59 PM
I think you misunderstand; this means that Americans are are actually willing to vote for a Mormon.
By the way, is there still a trollcott in effect?

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
St. James got it right: don’t just have faith. Work for this on Tuesday.

Win tomorrow, take a short breather, and then the fight really begins.
Left Coast Right Mind on November 5, 2012 at 11:01 PM
This is appropriate. The theme underlying most of Springsteen’s songs was despair, a decaying America, and bitter memories of a better past.
Dextrous on November 5, 2012 at 11:01 PM
If Romney won … wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that just be great?
Paul-Cincy on November 5, 2012 at 11:04 PM
You kidding? If this thing looks like it’s headed Romney’s way, I’m switching to MSNBC, stat. You couldn’t pay me to miss out on those crocodile tears.

Understatement of the decade. thank you

If Romney wins, Fox News will be the first and MSDNC will be the last to call it.

If Romney wins, Valerie Jarrett’s Secret Service detail will immediately be assigned to Ruth Ginsburg, along with a 24-hour internist and registered nurse.
Man, I hope Romney can pull it off. Then, we can convince Kennedy to retire and replace him with Paul Clement or some 40-year-old conservative genius with a life expectancy of 105.
Not pushing any of the liberals to the grave, but can you imagine Romney being able to replace Ginsburg and even Breyer? I’d love to have those identity-politics hacks Sotomayor and Kagan shoved into a corner for the next 25 years.
BuckeyeSam on November 6, 2012 at 1:47 AM
Replace Kennedy? Can we start with Roberts first? At least with Kennedy you know what you’re getting.
IamDA on November 6, 2012 at 3:24 AM
I hate to say it, but it’s probably the one that says all the polls are wrong.
And before anyone accuses me of being a troll, a year ago you’d have called me a Mitt-bot while you were supporting yahoos like Cain, Bachmann, and Santorum.
In fact, maybe had you got behind the one guy that even has a chance of winning this thing earlier, he would have been on the winning side instead.
But I suppose I should hold this sentiment off until after the election — because in some people’s deluded minds making a non-ROMNEY WITH TEH LANDSLIDE!!11 post on a blog somehow magically changes the outcome.

Winnning with a plurality??
Look, I take anything I can get to rid this country of Obummer, but this would be kinda disappointing. I think Willard will do much better.

This. And while I normally go out of my way to find transcripts and avoid actually hearing Zero’s sing-song cadences, I’d love nothing more than to have his concession speech on continuous loop for a few days.
