Are you ready for Campaign 2016?
For the Democrats, all eyes are on Clinton, the secretary of state who professes no interest but would have a clear advantage if she runs for the nomination that eluded her in 2008. Cuomo, too, is being talked about heavily in Democratic circles.
Maryland’s Martin O’Malley appears to be laying groundwork and snagged a plumb gig in September, as the guest of Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin at his annual steak-fry fundraiser in the state that traditionally holds the kick-off caucuses. Other governors who may weigh bids: Colorado’s John Hickenlooper, Massachusetts’ Deval Patrick and Montana’s Brian Schweitzer.
Keep an eye, too, on mayors like Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, who co-chaired the Democratic convention and headlined the Iowa Democratic Party’s annual fall fundraising dinner in Des Moines last month, following a long line of would-be presidential candidates. And another potential: mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio, who delivered the keynote address.

It’ll be several more years until the full impact of 2010 is felt on the Democrat Party. We wiped out their bench.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh.
Are FB comments gone? Woohoo!

Hillary will run, and she’ll probably win the nod. Then we’ll have to deal with more execrable memes about making history and the like.

Is Facebook gone for good?
YAY!
davidk on November 5, 2012 at 10:59 AM
What a cast of characters. I despise O’Malley (the new Howie Dean), Villaraigosa has his hilarious “OK, let’s do it one more time” vote from the convention, and the San Antonio mayor is a complete affirmative action empty suit with a golden smile, the new Obama, who couldn’t win a damn thing statewide where he resides.
Marcus on November 5, 2012 at 11:01 AM
OK, now this is getting stupid. You don’t even have time for running the country.
Unless something happens it’s going to be Romney vs Cuomo.
Oil Can on November 5, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Antonio Villaraigosa – the guys corrupt, incompetent, has run this city into the ground. Yeah, he’ll be a donk headliner.

Mr. Christie is already auditioning.

Doesn’t matter if you’re “ready”. Horse race begins Wednesday 11/7.
The Schaef on November 5, 2012 at 11:09 AM
Ok, let’s go through these one-by-one:
Hillary – Unless she throws Obama under the bus over Benghazi, that’ll stick to her like glue(not to mention serving in the Obama Administration). I know the Clintons have been teflon in politics, but 4 dead Americans is something you don’t just shake even with the passage of time. Plus she’ll be 69 in 2016 and will look even worse than she does now.
Cuomo – I suppose he’s doing a good job thus far, but New York politicians never make successful runs for the Presidency. Just ask Rudy, Hillary, and Andrew’s dad.
O’Malley – Please. He’s done a lousy job in Maryland and is a tax-and-spend liberal. The Dems would have a better shot at the White House with Biden on the ticket.
Hickenlooper – Aside from his unfortunately odd-sounding name, he might be their best shot. The only one who can make a credible case as a centrist Dem and he hails from a key swing state.
Patrick – If the Dems feel racial politics is the key to retaking the White House, they may go to that well once again. The problem is I don’t see the country eager to elect another man President just because he’s black in the wake of the disaster that was the Obama Administration.
Schweitzer – Are you kidding me? Have you heard the incendiary crap that comes out of this man’s mouth? It would be like running Alan Grayson for President. Plus we’re talking Montana which is a meaningless state in national politics.
Villaraigosa – Again, racial politics. He’d be a cynical play for Latino votes, but he has a horrible record as mayor that’ll be hung around his neck.
Castro – Huh? Setting aside his last name which is even more unfortunate than “Hickenlooper”, he’s the mayor of San Antonio. How in the hell does he parlay that into the experience necessary for the Presidency? Dude needs to run for Senator or Governor first(good luck with that being a Democrat in Texas).

It’s not to early to start thinking about 2020 neither.

He’s the poster child for corruption and incompetence.
Then again, now that I think about it, he’s the perfect face of the Democratic party.

UltimateBob on November 5, 2012 at 11:16 AM
Hillary won’t survive the Benghazi fallout. Cuomo will have to marry his girlfriend first, in order to run. Don’t know if he wants that. Democrats’ bench is awfully thin.
rbj on November 5, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Only for pure entertainment value, I’d love to see Bloomberg/Scarborough give it a go. Blind leading the blind.
salem on November 5, 2012 at 11:18 AM
LOL at the Democrat’s Clown Car candidates for 2016
Schweitzer – dude looks like the lovechild of Dick Morris a Rosie ODonnell
Cuomo- Is American ready for a bachelor POTUS? Will Democrats elect a union buster simply b/c he endorsed gay Marriage?
Warner- Call me crazy…but I dont think the Democrats will run a VULTURE Capitalist
Castro- Has a future if he can win a statewide election. until then he’s just a token
The biggest story will be Clinton/Biden…both will be an albatross on the process and prevent moderate Donks like Hicklepooper from getting any attention.

Campaign 2016? I don’t know if I am ready for November 7th, 2012. Those sweet bitter liberal tears are good to a point, but then they just get sickening and unbearable.
Think of all of those “I’m Sorry” websites that sprang up in 2004. *shudder*
Timothy S. Carlson on November 5, 2012 at 11:19 AM
He’d be twice the candidate as any other Republican. I mean, literally.
/fat joke
Paul-Cincy on November 5, 2012 at 11:21 AM
I think of the list, Cuomo and Hickenlooper are the most potentially worrisome. A President Romney could be potentially vulnerable if he isn’t able to grapple with the problems Obama/Bush left us.
Doomberg on November 5, 2012 at 11:23 AM
For which party? Sorry, I know Fatty is irrelevant, but I couldn’t resist.

We certainly need to be thinking about 2014. We need to primary the squishes with solid conservatives and replace dhimmicRATs.
davidk on November 5, 2012 at 11:28 AM
I’m not worried about Cuomo. He’d win the Northeast and the left coast. He’d struggle in the rest of the nation.
Hickenlooper would be more of a concern. Although I just read in his bio that he and his wife separated a few months ago. Who’s the last single dude elected President?
Doughboy on November 5, 2012 at 11:32 AM
Well I guess Mitt could start campaigning after the first of the year for 2016 like bho did in 2009 for 2012?

If Obama wins reelection, this country will be so bad he will have lower approval ratings than bush did when he left office. Gov. Jindal or Sen. Rubio will win in a landslide.
mrscullen on November 5, 2012 at 11:33 AM
Careful, let’s not get overconfident. Remember they were laughing at us in 2008 when our party was in a shambles after McCain handed the election to 0bama. They never thought we would come back, but within 2 years we formed the TEA Party and swept the House.
Even with the damage done to their party by radicals like 0bama, Pelosi and Reid, they still have a few years to straighten things out and make a comeback.
UltimateBob on November 5, 2012 at 11:35 AM
“Who’s the last single dude elected President?”
—
James Buchanan was the only “single dude” elected POTUS. In fact, the term “First Lady” came from his admin to decribe his sister.
Interestingly, he is also the only President from the state of PA
corujodp on November 5, 2012 at 11:37 AM
If Obama wins there will likely not be an election in 2016.
davidk on November 5, 2012 at 11:38 AM
This.
And we need to put maximum effort into a senate supermajority for 2014.

I thing that campaigns should be restricted to the election year. One of BO’s biggest problems was that he never stopped campaigning and didn’t have time to do his real job. Which in retrospect is a good thing.

Evan Bayh will be running.

He better pray that Obamacare is ancient history by 2016 or else his vote for that will cripple his candidacy.

I plan to celebrate Romney’s win, then hibernate from politics for a while (unless he squishes out).
However, when 2018 rolls around, I think I will tune up the vocal cords to start chanting ‘Run, Sarah, Run!!’ again

I’m a huge Sarah supporter also, but if she sees herself running for the Presidency again, she needs to run for Governor again, or run for Senate.
But if Romney wins like I think he will, and he gets the federal government out of small, medium, and large businesses’ way, then I think the economy will improve visibly enough for his reelection, if he fights for a conservative enough Supreme Court nominee. Heck, if he succeeds in either repealing or de-fanging Obamacare – depending upon the make-up of the U.S. Senate – that will earn much goodwill from the conservative movement; that will probably earn him the 2016 without someone contesting Romney in the primaries.
Which of course all eyes will be on whether Paul Ryan as the sitting Vice President wants his bosses job in 2020. Then there is also Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Mike Pence, and Susana Martinez who also might be interested in the job in 2020 and beyond. If Romney’s Presidency still looks decent in 2019-2020, I’d bet on Ryan being the nominee, and his comptetitors really running for the Veep spot.
Sarah Palin, by opting out of 2012, probably sealed her fate for future political races.
Jurisprudence on November 5, 2012 at 1:07 PM
Obama is going to lose in a landslide tomorrow.
Whoever runs in 2016 will face a tremendously popular and successful President Romney, the architect of America’s comeback. There is no way Hillary would run against a successful incumbent. So, yeah, I am looking forward to Romney v Biden or, even better, Romney v. Castro
